Completed two M.M. degrees from Southern Methodist University: in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and also in Music Theory. My masters thesis is titled: Beethovens Compositional Tendencies in Selected Sonata-Allegro Movements for Piano. Obtained a BM degree in piano performance from Dallas Baptist University. Studied at San Marcos Baptist Academy, where I graduated as the salutatorian and received a full scholarship for DBU. Active member of MTNA, TMTA, and DMTA since 2004. I am also currently enrolled with Region 10 Alternative Certification Program in order to broaden my teaching experience beyond the private music school setting. I have successfully passed the Music EC-12 TExES exam.

Director of Spanish Choirs at the Cathedral Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe. Piano and music theory instructor at Dallas/Music, Inc. Frequent adjudicator for musical events across the DFW metroplex. Adjunct lecturer at Southern Methodist University in music theory and class piano.

I am also fully bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish and would love to put my language skills to work, too. Should there be a need for Spanish instruction, I would be able and willing to work with students in both languages.

TYPES OF EXPERIENCE
Directing I am the Director of Spanish Choirs at the Cathedral in Downtown Dallas. My duties include providing music for all five Spanish-language Masses by training and directing the choir and cantors on a regular basis. Accompanying 2000-2007 I accompanied (with piano and organ) at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (in Grand Prairie) and St. Jude (in Mansfield) for a total of seven years. Teaching 2005-Present I am currently teaching at Dallas/Music, a vital music teaching community. I am honored to be a part of the faculty at Dallas/Music, where I have a full studio and group music theory classes. 2003-2012 Taught a wide variety of courses at SMU as an adjunct lecturer in music theory, aural skills, and class piano. 2006 Taught at Dallas Baptist University as an adjunct lecturer in music theory. 2003-2005 While at SMU, I was awarded an assistantship in exchange for a 15 hr./week internship in the Piano Preparatory department at SMU. 2002-2005 Taught piano at The Masters Touch School of Music.
2012-Present

Curriculum Design 2005-2008 Member of the Theory Advisory Committee for TMTA, helping design and write music theory tests for students across the state of Texas (levels 7-9). Currently I am working with Professor Melissa Murray (SMU) to develop and implement new curriculum at the International Music Conservatory of Texas in the Fall of 2013. This will be done to help students prepare for the prestigious Royal Conservatory Music Development Program.

2008 2008-2012

Attended the Texas Music Teachers Association convention, representing DMTA as a delegate at the convention. Participated in the National Piano Institute for Teachers and Young Artists as a theory/musicianship instructor, and gave five improvisation courses to elementary- through late intermediate-level students.

Pedagogy Forums and Presentations February 2011 Delivered a presentation at a pedagogy forum for DMTA members titled Teaching Structured Improvisation: The steps that lead to understanding harmonization and improvisation by using a theory and keyboard skills approach. September 2011 Delivered a follow-up presentation at a pedagogy forum for DMTA members, also on the topic of improvisation, titled A Little Bit of Jazz. October 2011 Delivered a guest lecture for Southwest Dallas MTA members on the topic of structured improvisation. March 2012 Presented a guest lecture for Garland MTA members on the topic of structured improvisation.

VOLUNTEERING IN PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS


Texas Music Teachers Association 2005-2008 Curriculum designer for the state theory exams (Whitlock theory tests), which are given to thousands of students throughout the state of Texas. Dallas Music Teachers Association 2006-present DMTA board member: served as website coordinator, music theory chairman, member-at-large, and in the DMTA nominating committee.

While at Southern Methodist University: -Recipient of an Artistic Scholarship and Assistantship -Recipient of a full scholarship for Music Theory -Graduate Teaching Fellow in the Piano Preparatory program at SMU, where I gave private and group lessons to students of all ages. While at Dallas Baptist University: -Graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors -Recipient of the Christian Leadership Scholarship for 5 years -Whos Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities -Member and president of Alpha Chi chapter at DBU -Member of Alpha Sigma Omega chapter at DBU -Member of the Pew College Society (now Paideia Society) at DBU -Received the President's award (1999) -At the request of the Universitys president, Dr. Gary Cook, I presented a paper on the Christian worldview before the entire student body (March 2000).
