Rutgers is the only university that offers an engineering-based curriculum in packaging. Graduates of the packaging engineering program at Rutgers are in high demand by industry throughout the United States. Applied sciences in engineering students can pursue either a fouryear bachelor of science degree or a five-year combined bachelor of arts degree in a liberal arts area with the bachelor of science degree in engineering. In our "Surface Decoration of Packaging" course, students learn about the fundamental principles of printing techniques used on glass, metal, plastic, paper, and composite packages.

Are you interested in engineering but unable to find what you are seeking in a professional engineering program? If so, then the applied sciences in engineering major was designed for you!
With the help of a faculty committee, you can pick and choose courses from other Rutgers engineering programs and build a curriculum that prepares you to fulfill your goals. The last two years of your program will be developed in close consultation with the dean to meet your special interests. Three possible areas of specialization: l Biomedical science and engineering Just like premedicine, this curriculum is intended for students who plan to go on to medical school or graduate study in biomedical engineering. Courses can be chosen from any engineering discipline, including the Department of Biomedical Engineering. l Engineering physics This curriculum prepares students for work in a physics research laboratory and for further study in engineering or physics. It includes courses in modern physics, electricity and magnetism, and solid-state physics. Students in this option often simultaneously complete a second major in physics. l Packaging engineering This curriculum prepares scientists and engineers for work in the field of packagingthe successful transport and delivery of a product from the manufacturer to the consumer. Courses focus on packaging machinery, packaging evaluation, and package design and development. The applied sciences in engineering program is offered on Rutgers' New Brunswick Campus. Students at the Camden and Newark campuses may be able to transfer to the School of Engineering.

The Rutgers University Biomedical Engineering Industrial Internship Program matches undergraduate students with local and national companies for a 10-week summer internship to ease the transition to the workplace.

Biomedical engineers apply engineering principles to the medical field to improve individual health care. Whether you dream of creating artificial organs for patients who need transplants, improving medical imaging technologies to better diagnose breast cancer, or designing groundbreaking rehabilitation equipment for spinal cord injuries, a Rutgers education in biomedical engineering will make those dreams a reality.
Since its initiation in 1965, Rutgers' biomedical Off campus, students conduct clinical research at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. l Claim to Fame Professor Anant Madabhushi's development of computer-aided diagnostics (CAD) systems that can automatically detect suspicious regions in medical images will reduce unnecessary biopsies for thousands of cancer patients. Biomedical engineering is offered by the School of Engineering on the New Brunswick Campus. Students at the Camden and Newark campuses may be able to transfer to the School of Engineering.

In the classroom, Eric Wallenstein, a biomedical engineering student, is working on a thesis that investigates bioengineered human skin equivalents. Rutgers also prepared him for his off-campus activities, which included coauthoring a paper on anti-inflammatory drugs at Janssen, L.P. Students interested in tissue engineering will be exposed to cell culture systems, microscopy and imaging, and the quantification of cell growth simulation in a newly developed instructional laboratory designed specifically for the field.

n As a Rutgers student, prepare to get seriously sweaty in any of our 14 competitive and training facilities that offer the latest equipment and certified trainers. Our facilities include weight rooms, cardio fitness rooms, saunas, steam rooms, squash/racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor tennis facilities, dance studios, and large gymnasiums. Fitness centers are conveniently located on each of the campuses and the College Ave campus even has a power gym for Olympic power-lifting boxing training.
