9th-12th graders,

YAC (Maine’s Youth-Adult Committee) invites UU senior high youth to


consider acting as junior youth advisors at the Junior Youth Con in
Auburn on May 2-3.

What would you do at the con?


1. Function as a dean, chaplain, or worship leader
2. As dean you would provide orientation explaining code of
conduct, schedule of the con, procedures in case of emergency,
touch groups assignments and purpose. You would also monitor
the energy and tone of the conference and take action to keep it
safe, respectful, inclusive, purposeful, spirit-centered, and fun.
You and other senior youth and adults would address any
misconduct and decide on consequences.
3. As a trained chaplain you would be available as a caring, non-
judgmental and listening presence with awareness of safety
issues and when to refer to an adult.
4. As worship leader you and other senior youth would invite junior
youth to plan and lead worships. You would act as a role model
of our UU faith and the importance for spiritual growth and
expression.
5. All senior youth might bear responsibility for planning
icebreakers and games ahead of time in case energy drops or
junior youth are not well involved. You would attempt to build
community among and with junior youth, yourselves and adults.
6. All senior youth will work with the adult con coordinator and host
church.
7. With respect and encouragement, allow junior youth to create
their own space and community, but also be aware when the
energy of the con is lagging.

What do you need to know about applying for this leadership position?
1. You need the support and recommendation of your DRE or
minister.
2. You should have attended at least 4 cons.
3. You will not have engaged in misconduct at cons while in a
leadership position within the past eighteen months.
4. You have served in a leadership position at cons, at least 2
times.
5. You understand the general safety policies and code of conduct
at cons.
6. You are engaging, communicate well with groups, are organized
and take responsibility for your actions.

7. You can use this leadership experience on a college resume or
job application!!
8. Inform your parents you want to be in this position and make
sure they know what it means. (let them read this)
