The number of unemployed Oregonians is much larger than the number of job vacancies.
There were 181,113 unemployed Oregonians in January 2013 and 22,924 job vacancies reported by employers. Thats 8 unemployed people for each vacancy. Weve never done a winter vacancy survey, so were not sure how that compares to previous winters. We do know labor demand reaches a low-point in the winter as retail trade, agricultural, and other seasonal industries cut jobs each winter.
but healthcare practitioners and technical occupations do not top the list of vacancies.
