RENAULT CAPTUR THE URBAN CROSSOVER WITH RENAULT STYLE

Captur is the new urban crossover from Renault. Its flowing lines highlight its distinctive proportions, while its large wheels, generous ground clearance, wide tracks and steeply raked, forward-set windscreen form a unique blend of MPV, SUV and hatchback, conceived and made reality by Renault. Renault Captur lends itself perfectly to an extensive personalisation programme, too. With its many permutations of two-tone bodywork, wheel colours, light and dark interior trims,

upholstery fabrics and graphic motifs, Captur will appeal to a particularly broad spectrum of tastes and desires. The creative freedom enjoyed by Renault's designers shines through in the features and generous interior space expected of this type of vehicle. Though compact (it is only fractionally longer than New Clio), Renault Captur is particularly roomy. The sliding rear bench seat provides the ideal balance of space for passengers and their luggage, with a maximum carrying capacity of 455dm3 (up to the baggage cover). In the passenger compartment, two ingenious innovations underline Captur's character as a truly user-friendly vehicle: a large drawer-type glove box, which is easy for the driver to reach and holds 11 litres, and the availability of removable seat covers which can be unzipped, machine washed at home and refitted. Meanwhile, the in-dash Renault R-Link multimedia tablet provides access to a whole new level of connectivity, with an ever-expanding library of dedicated motoring applications. The raised driving position is both comfortable and confidence-inspiring, as are the cars passive safety features, road holding and braking performance. The credit for Captur's ride comfort goes to the B platform, which it shares with New Clio. Driving pleasure and fuel economy are the common denominators of Captur's 100% turbo engine line-up. Available petrol engines include the Energy TCe 90 (three cylinders and just 898cc) and the TCe 120 EDC (four cylinders, 1,198cc). The latter is available exclusively with EDC transmission (Efficient Dual Clutch) which delivers outstanding driving comfort. When it comes to diesel power, the Energy dCi 90 uses only 3.6 litres/100km and emits just 95g of CO2 per km*, which are record low figures for Capturs class. This model will also become available with EDC transmission at a later date. Renault Captur is built at the Valladolid plant in Spain, where particularly close attention has been paid to product quality and environmental impact. Up to 16% of the plastics used in Captur's production are sourced from recycling an outstanding achievement, even if not visibly apparent. Renault Captur, which is due to go on sale from April 2013, will bring a splash of welcome colour and glamour to the B segment, but without losing sight of the need to deliver common-sense practicality at the same time.

Captur is a distillation of Renaults constantly inventive approach to the small car segment. The Captur project inspired a fast-spreading passion within the project teams, and it is this enthusiasm that Renault wants to bring to the market thanks to its new crossover Ali Kassa Programme Vice-President A/B Range Renault

01
PASSIONATE, PRACTICAL AND INNOVATIVE
Ingenious and practical innovations are core values of Renaults stylish new crossover, which brings welcome fresh thinking to the B segment. Inspired by the concept car whose name and spirit it takes forward, Renault Captur is a proud standard-bearer for Renaults new design identity.
Renault Captur encapsulates all the thinking behind the concept car that it was my pleasure to present as the expression of the 'Explore' theme in Renault's life-cycle design strategy. As the brand's first urban crossover, Captur combines all the advantages of an MPV, an SUV and a family hatchback. Its balanced, fluid lines impart a friendly muscular energy to its bodywork, while its expressive style and everyday practicality provide an open invitation to discover the world either two-up, or with the whole family on board. Laurens van den Acker, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Design

THE SPIRIT OF THE CAPTUR CONCEPT CAR

Captur draws its inspiration from the concept car that represented the second theme 'Explore' of Renaults life cycle design strategy. Sporty and fun, this crossover was an open invitation to explore the world, two-up. Directly descended from the concept car, the production model was shaped by the same teams of designers and in the same studio.

Captur now takes forward the name, style and many of the features of its namesake: - Distinctive frontal design structured around the prominent, vertically-positioned Renault logo which is set against a gloss black background. - Curvaceous styling expresses movement and lightness, with very few hard edges. - Muscular contours to the sides and wheel arches. - Large wheels and substantial wheel housings signal robustness and a sporty pedigree. - Capturs roof graphics carry over the design of the concept cars roof. - An aircraft wing theme to the form of the dashboard. - Elasticated mesh pockets on the front seat-backs conjure up the worlds of sailing or climbing and recall the technique employed for the seats and boot lining of the concept car. - Mood lighting for the Easy Life drawer. - A dedicated, warm Arizona Orange finish, which was selected as the launch colour for the production vehicle.

A LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT DESIGN, COMBINED WITH REAL-WORLD PRACTICALITY

Renault Captur is an urban crossover with a warm, friendly look. Its compact footprint (4.12m x 1.77m x 1.57m) and large 16- or 17-inch wheels proclaim its sporty vocation and lust for adventure, while its substantial ground clearance (200 mm) raises it to the level of a number of crossovers and 4x4s from the next segment up. Thanks to its robust stance, Renault Captur comes across as more imposing than its actual dimensions might suggest. Its forms are fluid and muscular, while the forward position of its steeply-raked windscreen emphasises the design's dynamic appeal, and the sill protection mouldings guard against urban and rural scrapes. The two-part horizontal rear lights permit a wide tailgate opening and help to steer clear of a boxy look. Modern, original and practical styling details confirm that Renault Captur has been designed to be extremely user-friendly. For example, the base of each door is shaped to prevent shoes and clothing from being soiled when climbing aboard.

RENAULT CAPTUR: A CROSSOVER THAT IS GENUINELY PRACTICAL FOR EVERYDAY USE
Renault Captur brings together the best of three worlds, namely the MPV, SUV and family hatchback. It also embodies one of Renault's greatest ambitions: to make innovation an affordable reality for all. Renault Captur brings to the crossover numerous features that help to take the strain out of everyday life, including a sliding rear bench seat, a multi-position boot floor and a multimedia portfolio that includes Media Nav and Renault R-Link. Two-tone paintwork, the Easy Life drawer-type glove box and Zip Collection removable seat covers complete the list of innovative features.

Renault Captur is a compact, unaggressive crossover which is genuinely practical. In true Renault fashion: it is a real crossover for real lives... Benot Bochard, A- and B-Segment Programme Director

THE BEST OF THE SUV, MPV AND HATCHBACK WORLDS, BLENDED BY RENAULT
Renault Captur blends three key ingredients, as only Renault knows how: the character and ruggedness of an SUV, the interior space and practicality of an MPV, and the dynamics and driving refinement of a family hatchback.

SUV features: - A wheelbase of 2.60m and track of 1.51m ensure an exceptionally surefooted stance for Capturs segment. - The large-diameter wheels (16- or 17-inch rims, 660mm diameter tyres) and substantial ground clearance (200mm) open the doors to adventure. - Lower body side protective strips and bumper design.

MPV features: - A reassuringly high-up driving position (10cm higher than New Clio). - Large boot of a capacity between 377dm3 and 455dm3 (with rear bench seat in its forward-most position). - Family-sized cabin: the distance from the accelerator pedal to the rear seatback is 1,730mm, while knee room for rear passengers is a comfortable 215mm (75mm more than New Clio). - The 60/40-split sliding rear bench seat comfortably seats up to three adults and can be folded to form a flat floor. - Three-point Isofix child seat anchorage for the front passenger seat and two outboard rear seats, with three homologated seat belt positions for very young children, attached with standard seat belts. - Ample lidded stowage totalling 27 litres. - Comfortable suspension. Family hatchback features: - Chassis settings fine-tuned to take into account Capturs centre of gravity which is slightly higher than that of a hatchback. Roll stiffness has been distributed precisely between front and rear in order to ensure a balanced ride and minimal body roll. The dampers have been calibrated to deliver responsive dynamic handling, safety and comfort. - The electric, variable-rate power steering is direct (2.7 turns of the wheel lock to lock) and as pleasant to use in and about town as it is precise on country roads. - The turning circle of 10.8m between kerbs ensures good manoeuvrability in built-up areas. - Although high-up, the driving position is that of a car. SMART IDEAS TO SIMPLIFY EVERYDAY USE Renault Captur introduces two innovations that are unique in the market and which will be particularly appreciated in day-to-day use: - Patented Zip Collection removable, zipped seat covers (depending on version). - A large Easy Life drawer instead of the traditional glove box (not available with right hand drive). On a more general level, Renault Captur is designed to make these useful and pleasing features accessible to a broader audience in the B segment.

User-friendly features: Easy Life drawer: the first glove box that is easy to reach from the drivers seat. It holds 11 litres and can accommodate such familiar items as a laptop computer, camera or handbag. The Easy Life drawer is an inventive storage solution that is more attractive and more practical than a conventional glove box. The large boot is uncluttered in shape and holds up to between 377dm3 and 455dm3. The removable, multiposition boot floor is reversible, with both carpeted and washable surface coverings. Two large stowage spaces are provided underneath the boot mat either side of the tyre inflation kit.

The sliding rear seat has fore-and-aft travel of 160mm and provides up to 215mm of knee room for rear passengers. A removable 1.6 litre stowage bin is located between the front seats. A large lidded stowage area is located at the top of the dashboard. The front door bins can accommodate drinks bottles of up to 1.5 litres.

Easy to maintain The Zip Collection seat covers are easy to unfasten and can be machine washed at home. There's no longer any need to struggle inside the car to get rid of stains, so the interior can now be as good as new when you come to re-sell. The rubberised side of the reversible, multi-position boot floor is easy to sponge clean, while the boot walls and front seat shrouding will cope easily with dirty loads.

Thoughtful touches Keyless entry and starting are standard across the range, while a hands-free key card is available for the second equipment level and upwards. The height-adjustable driver's seat has 70mm of travel so that drivers of all builds can find a seating position that suits them. The steering wheel can be adjusted for both height (by 60mm) and reach (50mm). There is even indirect ambient lighting, via light guides, above the drawer-type glove box (from the second equipment level). Motorway lane change function: a flick of the indicator stalk produces three flashes. Capturs third equipment level features additional corner lighting: the appropriate fog light is automatically activated to widen the area illuminated and to give the driver a broader field of vision through corners (under 40 km/h). Rear parking sensors (audible signal) and a reversing camera are available as part of the MEDIA NAV or RLink packs (either standard or optional, depending on equipment level). Finally, Hill Start Assist eliminates the risk of accidentally rolling backward when starting.

LAVISHLY EQUIPPED
Avec sa gnreuse dotation de srie, Renault Captur Thanks to their generous complement of standard features, all versions of Renault Captur include equipment normally associated with higher segments: sliding rear seat with 160mm of travel, drawer-type glove box, reversible boot floor, card for keyless locking and starting, variable-rate power steering, electrically-adjustable heated door mirrors, electric front and rear windows, height- and reachadjustable steering wheel, Hill Start Assist (HSA), ABS, emergency brake assist, Bluetooth connectivity for audio devices and telephones, USB port and jack socket, cruise control with speed limiter, motorway mode indicators.

THE MOST FUEL-EFFICENT CAR IN ITS CLASS
Renault Captur figures among the very best in its class when it comes to low fuel consumption and emissions. Renault's new crossover is available with the most economical engines (in road use), in addition to its carefully-honed aerodynamics and low weight (equivalent to that of Clio III). The fuel efficiency of its engines is the direct fruit of Renault's F1 expertise. Finally, the significant proportion of recycled plastics is further evidence of Renault's minimising its impact on the environment. 3.6 L / 100KM*: BEST-IN-CLASS FUEL ECONOMY COMBINED WITH GENUINE DRIVING PLEASURE
Thanks to its Energy range of engines, Captur is the embodiment of driving enjoyment and dynamic performance. It delivers crisp, responsive acceleration right across the rev range, yet it still tops its class when it comes to low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. - Turbo power across the range: all the engines in the Renault Captur line-up are turbocharged, downsized and of the very latest generation. They provide outstanding torque at low revs. - All the automatic versions use EDC transmission: Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission is available from launch for the TCe 120 engine and will later become available mated to the dCi 90 powerplant. EDC automatic transmission combines smooth gear changes, responsive performance and low fuel consumption. - Stop&Start across the Energy engine range: all Energy engines feature deceleration and braking energy recovery.

EXCLUSIVE: CAPTUR POISED TO BE FIRST TO FEATURE EDC TRANSMISSION WITH THE dCi 90 DIESEL ENGINE For the first time*, the dCi 90 diesel engine will soon be available with EDC dual clutch transmission. The combination is particularly satisfying in action, with a targeted combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 4.1 litres/100km (subject to homologation). It is also a choice that suits the versatile nature of Renault Captur down to the ground. In town, the ample torque available at low revs and the smoothness of the gear changes make for effortless motoring. Meanwhile, the sixspeed transmission and powerful engine ensure responsive acceleration and refined enjoyment, notably in terms of acoustic comfort.

- Reduced friction: the Renault Energy TCe 90 makes use of low-friction materials employed in F1, such as DLC (Diamond-Like Coating) for its cam followers and PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) for the piston rings. - Reliability: in F1, Renault has proved the strength of its engines by claiming the last three Constructors world titles with Red Bull Racing (2010, 2011 and 2012). Just like the powerplants seen in F1, all the Renault engines available for Renault Captur are powerful, strong and fuel efficient.

THE BENEFITS OF TECHNOLOGIES DERIVED FROM RENAULT'S FORMULA 1 EXPERTISE

In Formula 1 and on the public road alike, it is performance (smoothness and driving refinement), energy efficiency (low fuel consumption) and reliability that matter most. Renault's experience as an engine supplier in F1 feeds directly into the engines which power its production models. It is no coincidence that Captur sits at the top of its class when it comes to performance, fuel consumption and quality. Thanks to Formula 1, Renault customers will be able to enjoy their own personal victories over fuel consumption and CO2 emissions Renault's experience as an engine supplier in F1 has been of - Downsizing: small but powerful, the latest-generation petrol engines are notable for their high power in relation to their capacity, as well as for their generous torque at low revs. These small and particularly efficient powerplants allow refined operation to sit alongside low fuel consumption.

CAREFUL ATTENTION TO MINIMISING WEIGHT AND OPTIMISING AERODYNAMIC EFFICIENCY

In addition to these advances in engine technology, Renault Captur has also benefited from research into weight saving, tyres and aerodynamics.... - A crossover that weighs as little as a hatchback: Renault Captur tips the scales at practically the same weight as Clio III, despite its larger footprint and extra comfort and safety equipment. - Very low rolling resistance tyres: these highly efficient tyres reduce fuel consumption by up to 3%*. - Carefully-honed aerodynamics (CdA): by keeping body height reasonably low, Renault Captur presents a smaller surface area for wind resistance without penalising cabin space. - Powered flaps behind the bumper automatically close off the air intakes whenever the demand on the cooling system falls (depends on version and market). - Under-body ducting channels air flow to optimise aerodynamic performance.

12

HELPING DRIVERS TO USE LESS FUEL

Renault Captur is equipped with simple, intuitive and non-intrusive features to inform drivers and help them to reduce the amount of fuel they use. Gear shift indicator light: an illuminated arrow on the instrument display suggests the ideal moment to change gear and thereby save fuel. - Driving Style indicator (with R-Link): a light on the instrument display provides drivers with real-time feedback about the way they drive. This function takes into account travelling speed, gear changes and how deceleration phases are handled. Different colours (green, yellow or orange) and varying levels of brightness help drivers to adapt their driving style - In the ECO mode, Renault Captur itself assists in reducing consumption (except versions powered by EURO4 engines). This function is activated by pressing the ECO button on the centre console and permits fuel consumption savings of up to 10% depending on driving conditions, driving style and traffic levels. The ECO mode operates by: - restricting the amount of engine torque that is delivered, - adjusting the EDC transmissions gear change mapping (changes gear at lower engine speeds), - specific control programmes for the automatic climate control and heating systems.

AHEAD OF THE GAME IN THE USE OF RECYCLED MATERIALS

Recycled materials account for 16% of the plastics used in the manufacture of Renault Captur. This is a first for Renault and represents one of the best scores in the automobile industry. This equates to a total weight of 32kg, two-thirds of which concern the exterior of the vehicle and one-third the interior. Parts made from recycled plastic include: - Under-body components, rear beam and various component parts for the bumpers, etc. Various insulation components, boot carpeting, structural and attachment elements for the dashboard. - Elements of the climate control, cooling and fuel systems and battery. 95% recoverable: 85% of the materials employed are recyclable: 9% at the depollution stage (fluids, airbags), 6% recoverable material (foams, glass, claddings), 70% separation and fragmentation (metals). Plus 10% recoverable in the form of energy.

04
ROCK SOLID ON THE BASICS INCLUDING SAFETY
As a crossover designed by Renault, Captur refuses to compromise when it comes to active and passive safety. This insistence on safety covers the entire range and goes hand in hand with another area of Renault expertise: comfort. The settings chosen for Renault Captur have been carefully finetuned to match the models specific characteristics and notably cover the softness of the suspension and steering response. Meanwhile, in typical Renault fashion, running costs are kept well in check. TOP-LEVEL SAFETY FROM THE ENTRYLEVEL VERSION
Renault Captur features the same fundamental systems as New Clio in order to deliver the very best active and passive safety performance. - Adult safety: reinforced structure, high-performance frontal airbags, head/thorax side airbags, pressure sensors in front doors for rapid detection of side impacts, seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters (front seats), anti-whiplash head rests, load limiters for outboard rear seats, anti-submarining function for front seats. - Child safety: three-point Isofix child seat anchorage for the front passenger seat and two outboard rear seats, with three homologated seat belt positions for young children attached with standard seat belts. - Pedestrian safety: Renault Captur was carefully designed to minimise pedestrian impact injuries, particularly to the legs, hips and head. - The Roll Movement Intervention system is triggered in extreme situations or whenever the angle of body roll becomes excessive.. - Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back by temporarily holding the vehicle stationary when the parking brake is released.

SUPERLATIVE HANDLING
The handling of Renault Captur benefits from Renault's expertise and exacting approach. Thanks to its dynamic road holding performance and best-in-segment ride comfort, drivers will immediately feel confident. The uprated front and rear suspension systems are derived from those of New Clio Estate and adapted to the larger wheels: - Front suspension: a MacPherson-type arrangement with rectangular lower arm and dual isolating mountings for outstanding road holding and ride comfort (longitudinal and lateral forces decoupled). - Rear suspension: programmed deflection torsion beam and coil springs. The beam and anti-roll bar are calibrated to optimise roll control. - ABS, emergency brake assist, latest-generation seven-sensor ESC and Roll Movement Intervention are standard features.

Specific chassis settings have been developed for Captur in order to guarantee a high level of comfort and dynamic performance. Suppleness and progressiveness are probably the two qualities that best describe Capturs comfort and handling. Jol Billault, Analytical Test Engineer (Ride and Handling)

14

RUNNING COSTS KEPT UNDER CONTROL

Renaults new crossover has been engineered to deliver excellent results in terms of total cost of ownership (TCO), too, thanks to: - Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions among the best in Capturs class - Stop&Start fitted to all engines with manual gearboxes in Europe. - Powered aerodynamic flaps on the majority of versions. - Annual service intervals, and recommended engine oil change intervals of 30,000km/two years.

Outside Europe, as well as for certain European markets, maintenance frequencies may be adjusted to reflect local conditions. - Maintenance-free timing chain on TCe 90 and TCe 120 petrol engines. - Long-life timing belt on dCi engines, with changes at 150,000km/six years. - Low rolling resistance tyres. - All the prerequisites for maintaining a high residual value: design, quality, and an interior that can be refreshed prior to re-sale thanks to zippable, removable seat covers for easy washing or replacement.

05
DESIRABLE STYLING, BACKED UP BY HIGH QUALITY
Designed in France at the Renault Technocentre, in Guyancourt, and manufactured in Valladolid, Spain, Renault Captur will be marketed in more than fifty countries (including, at a later date, South Korea with Renault Samsung Motors badging). Renaults new crossover acknowledges that an ambitious design calls for high standards of quality. Bringing two-tone paint finishes to the volume market was one of the most notable manufacturing challenges raised by the programme. SOPHISTICATED DESIGN AND STANDARDS APPEAL THROUGH ITS HIGH MANUFACTURING

Captur embodies a new kind of appeal thanks to its powerful, seductive exterior lines which carry over the spirit of New Clio, along with the originality of two-tone paintwork which Renault brings to a broader B-segment audience for the first time. Capturs desirability is further heightened by the freshness of the bright colours selected for the interior and by its removable seat covers. As a hallmark of Renaults new line-up, this sophisticated appeal calls for exacting quality at every stage of the design, development and manufacturing processes. Following the example of New Clio, Capturs design is an ambassador of the image of Renault itself, and that needed to be reflected in the production standards met at the Valladolid factory. This challenge was converted into an opportunity to break new ground in terms of visible quality.

VISIBLE QUALITY
At the Valladolid plant, the focus of attention for the Captur programme was the improvement of fit and finish.

Thanks to its powerful exterior design and dramatic two-tone paintwork, Renault Captur oozes instant appeal. And for the charm to work, quality had to be right up to scratch. Herv Gaulm - A and B Segment Quality Engineer

16

The focus was also on paintwork quality, including the use of a new primer-free paint technology for the first time at Renault. Captur features an HD (high durability) clear-coat finish, first introduced on New Clio, which gives improved lustre and transparency, plus greater resistance to scratching. A new paintshop process known as 3WET provides not only a valuable saving in time but also a reduction in emissions, residues and energy consumption: - Le process est ainsi simplifi par la suppression de The process is simplified by the elimination of the preparation stage. A water-borne base coat is applied directly onto the cataphoresised surface. - The process involves a new operation masking which is an essential step in producing two-tone paint finishes. An existing paintshop was converted into a fast and effective masking line, allowing the plant to respond to the anticipated high demand for two-tone paintwork.

Two-tone paintwork is attractive, but also rare. It means two trips through the paint booth, which is a costly process. For Captur, the idea of a two-tone colour scheme was born from the combination of Valladolid's paintshop capabilities and the first sketches produced by the designers who imagined Captur as a two-tone car. Why not?, I said, and everyone latched on to the idea. Valladolid excelled in turning this idea into reality. The accuracy of the solution can be seen in the zones where the two colours meet: no drop of paint is out of place. I believe this detail speaks volumes for Captur's build quality. Christophe Pjout Captur Project Manager.

ALL NEW, BUT BUILT ON SOLID FOUNDATIONS

Like New Clio, Renault Captur is based on the highly efficient B platform. On a practical level, this means that the engine compartment is the same as that of Clio and Logan, so it was possible to share numerous components with Clio. Although it isnt visible, there is significant carry-over in the expertise and processes employed by the bodyshop, paintshop and final assembly. For Renault Captur these were very important considerations with a view to achieving manufacturing quality and reliability.

THE VALLADOLID PLANT SPAIN Expertise in two-tone paintwork

The new paint lines at the multi-skilled Valladolid factory helped it to rise successfully to the challenge of producing a vehicle with two-tone paintwork in very large numbers.

EFFECTIVE, DEPENDABLE AND DESIGNED TO LASTER

Vehicle architecture is a widely acknowledged area of expertise for Renault, a brand that has always been bold and innovative when it comes to developing new concepts. Compact on the outside; roomy and modular inside Renault Captur once again cuts across the established segments. It is built on the B platform, the comfort, spaciousness, handling and reliability of which are well documented. The B platform underpins around 20 different vehicles built by the Alliance. Renault Captur also uses the same drivetrain as New Clio, with wider tracks and a longer wheelbase. Renault Captur sets out to deliver outstanding levels of reliability and mechanical integrity. Production Renault engines have reached high levels of reliability, as recognised by both independent bodies and the firms partners. In motorsport, Renault engines have won the last three Constructors world titles (2010, 2011 and 2012) in Formula 1, the most exacting form of motor racing. In terms of durability, as is the case with all recent Renault models, Captur was subjected to the EDAU durability test (appearance and function), first introduced in 2010. This test is carried out in addition to the usual long distance tests and is conceived to prematurely age the vehicle in order to correct any defects from one generation to the next and to prepare the ground for future model ranges. In eight weeks it is able to simulate three years of use by the customer.

DESIGNED TO WIN OVER NEW CUSTOMERS
With Captur, Renault is once again changing the rules of the game in the fast-developing urban crossover market. Combining style, personalisation and practicality, and propelled by powertrains that combine performance with fuel economy, Renault's new crossover has the potential to earn a significant share of the B segment. Driven by innovation, Renault has boosted its reputation as a pioneer in the field of designing versatile, affordable compact cars. Renault Captur joins New Clio, New Clio Estate and ZOE in this segment.

IN THE LINE OF FIRE: B-SEGMENT MPVs

The B-segment crossover is a very new market and only began to emerge in 2010 with the arrival of a major player the Nissan Juke. In keeping with its innovative instincts, Renault believes strongly in the potential of this new body style. In Europe, crossovers account for 8% of the smallcar segment (B segment). This segment is dominated by conventional hatchbacks (74%), while MPVs account for slightly less than 11%, and estate cars a little more than 5%. Coups and cabriolets together share the remaining 2%. Europe saw a sales volume of around 257,000 crossovers in 2012. In 2013, the market share of crossovers is expected to nearly double, to reach 14%. After a decade of success, MPVs are expected to give ground gradually. With the advantage of a strong personality, and as a concept that meets the needs of young families and single people alike, the crossover appears to have a bright future ahead of it. The launch of Renault Captur will provide the segment with a big boost, while competition both direct and indirect will intensify with the arrival of the Peugeot 2008, Ford Ecosport and Fiat 500X, alongside the existing Opel Mokka and Chevrolet Trax.

WHERE ARE THE MARKETS?

At launch, we expect the market split for Renault Captur to be as follows: France: 40% Europe (excluding France): 50% Turkey, Maghreb nations, etc.: 10% The share of international sales will rise in months to come as Captur is launched in South Africa, Israel, Lebanon, Japan and Singapore. Captur will also be sold in Korea by Renault Samsung Motors with a brand-specific designation.
