IMPORTANT DATES End of Week 1 of placement Return Feedback Form and Student Induction Checklist. Monthly Fill out your log sheet and get your supervisor to sign and date it. During Placement Application for City & Guilds Licentiateship Award to be completed and sent to the placement team. After 5 months of placement Remind your supervisor to fill in and return Midterm Report form (Jan 2012). At the end of placement Remind your supervisor to fill in and return Final Report form. On return to University Deliver a placement presentation, and hand in your placement documentation (placement report, logbook and poster). Requests should be directed to the Placement Team or complete online visit request form at: www.cs.qub.ac.uk/~yearout YoPE Student> University Placement Visit UNIVERSITY ENROLMENT Enrolment for students on placement is carried out by post with all details being sent to your home address during October by the Adviser of Studies. Please ensure that the University has your correct contact details. You must complete the enrolment process by returning all the information that is requested. Students are required to pay part fees during their placement year. This will be approximately 650 for 2011/12. PLACEMENT VISITS For placements within the island of Ireland, a member of staff will be allocated to visit you on placement. For placements outside Ireland, a member of staff will liaise with you about your placement via telephone/email and there may be a visit. The visit will be an informal meeting to check on your progress, the type of work you are doing, an opportunity to review your monthly log and meet with you line manager.

PLACEMENT DOCUMENTATION Placement Report: Minimum 2,500 words, maximum 4,000 words
1. Executive Summary (one page summary of entire report). Introduction. Overview of employing organisation. Description of responsibilities and work. (Include in this section a list of the hardware and software you used). Your experience on placement. A reflective account of how you have gained the following skills: Self-Management and Development Managing Tasks Communicating Clearly Working with Others Applying Knowledge Problem Solving Choice of sections from the following topics, or others you think suitable: Comments on how the organisation matched your expectations. Comments on the benefits you obtained from the placement year. Comments on how your work contributed to the overall organisation. Comments on the programming languages used, as compared with those taught at QUB. Comment on the relevance of the placement to the degree program (eg the extent to which modules at QUB prepared you for placement and suggestions of how the academic curriculum could be improved). Conclusions. Appendix (examples of code, screen dumps, certificates, training courses completed, CV, sample reports etc, Maximum of 20 sides A4) Logbook (to include 1 A4 page per month

Placement Presentation:
The presentation should be planned to be of interest to an audience of teaching staff and a group of peers. This should last for 8 minutes and should be a Powerpoint presentation of 6 or 7 slides. Slides: Slide 1 Title Slide 2 The Company Slide 3 Your role and how you fitted in Slide 4 What you did 1 Slide 5 What you did 2 Slide 6 Conclusions Slide 7 Key Poster: You will be required to produce an A3 size poster detailing your placement experience A colour coded template will be provided for each degree pathway. Information should include: Brief personal profile. Company Profile. Role in company. Experienced gained (professionally and socially). Skills acquired. Guidelines: Creativity is encouraged Use, pictures, graphics, logos, photographs Use the colour coded degree pathway templates provided Submission Details Poster to be submitted via email by Monday 18th September via email to cs.placement@qub.ac.uk . Posters will be displayed in the foyer of Bernard Crossland Building (BCB) during the placement presentations in week which take place in week 1 and 2 of semester 1. Posters will be displayed on the corridors or labs within BCB and available on the Careers & YoPE website. Posters that do not meet the required standard will be returned for amendment and resubmission.
