In what ways are needs and wants different? What are the costs and benefits of making a buying choice?

F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Journal Entry- Students will write a journal entry about a time where they had a buying choice to make. It should include whether if it was a need or a want. Did they have to save for it? Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students should be able to give examples of what is given up when choices are made. By completing the study guide and writing in their journal entries I will know that they understand what is given up when choices are made. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think it will be easiest to teach the students that when you make a purchase you are making a choice to spend money. I think students will know how buying something works and that they make sacrifices for the things they want. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? Students might have a hard time deciding between things that are wants and needs. I think some students might think that most things they want are needs, when they are not. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? Students can do a card matching game. I can make cards with pictures of shelter, water, foods, toys, and pets. The students can categorize them into wants and needs. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I think using flash cards with pictures of objects on them and then deciding if they are wants or needs will help the students who dont grasp the concept. Having examples and seeing pictures will make it easier for students. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I might need to change the journal entry, I dont know if there would be enough time for the students to do the journal entry as well as complete the worksheet. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?

I didnt find that writing this lesson was difficult. The book is really useful with providing ideas for activities and assessment.

This is a part of the Study guide found in the TE Unit Resources (p.47)
