Christ, whose glory fills the skies Charles Wesley (1707-88) NEH 234 Christ, whose glory fills the skies, Christ, the true, the only light, Sun of Righteousness, arise, Triumph oer the shades of night; Dayspring from on high, be near; Daystar, in my heart appear. Dark and cheerless is the morn Unaccompanied by thee; Joyless is the days return, Till thy mercys beams I see; Till they inward light impart, Glad my eyes, and warm my heart. Visit then this soul of mine, Pierce the gloom of sin and grief; Fill me, radiancy divine, Scatter all my unbelief; More and more thyself display, Shining to the perfect day. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The presiding Priest says a few words of welcome and introduces the service Prayer of Preparation All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Let us receive new life in him as we confess our sins in penitence and faith.

Like Mary at the empty tomb, we fail to grasp the wonder of your presence. All Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy Like the disciples behind locked doors, we are afraid to be seen as your followers. All Christ, have mercy Christ, have mercy Like Thomas in the upper room, we are slow to believe. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Sit Reading Acts 16. 9-15 During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, Come over to Macedonia and help us. When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them. We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home. And she prevailed upon us. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Let all the world in every corner sing

George Herbert (1593-1632)

NEH 394

Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King! The heavens are not too high, His praise may thither fly, The earth is not too low, His praises there may grow. Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King! Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King! The church with psalms must shout, No door can keep them out; But, above all, the heart Must bear the longest part. Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King! The Gospel John 5. 1-9 Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus answered him, Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me.

I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, I am going away, and I am coming to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe. All Sit We keep silence. Stand The Creed Let us declare our faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ the only Son of God,

This is the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon Revd David Walsh

eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Thou who art beyond the farthest Mortal eye can scan, Can it be that thou regardest Songs of sinful man? Can we know that thou art near us, And wilt hear us? Yea, we can. For we know that thou rejoicest Oer each work of thine; Thou didst ears and hands and voices For thy praise design; Craftsmans art and musics measure For thy pleasure All combine. In thy house, great God, we offer Of thine own to thee; And for thine acceptance proffer All unworthily Hearts and minds and hands and voices In our choicest Psalmody. Honour, glory, might and merit Thine shall ever be, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Blessed Trinity. Of the best which thou hast given Earth and heaven Render thee.

The Eucharistic Prayer All The Lord be with you and also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, almighty and eternal Father, and in these days of Easter to celebrate with joyful hearts the memory of your wonderful works. For by the mystery of his passion Jesus Christ, your risen Son, has conquered the powers of death and hell and restored in men and women the image of your glory.
16

All All

He has placed them once more in paradise and opened to them the gate of life eternal. And so, in the joy of this Passover, earth and heaven resound with gladness, while angels and archangels and the powers of all creation sing for ever the hymn of your glory. All Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Accept our praises, heavenly Father, through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, and as we follow his example and obey his command, grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit these gifts of bread and wine may be to us his body and his blood; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks: he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of me.

17

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks: he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Therefore, heavenly Father, we remember his offering of himself made once for all upon the cross; we proclaim his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; we look for the coming of your kingdom, and with this bread and this cup we make the memorial of Christ your Son our Lord. All Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died Christ is risen Christ will come again. Accept through him, our great high priest, this our sacrifice of thanks and praise, and as we eat and drink these holy gifts in the presence of your divine majesty, renew us by your Spirit, inspire us with your love and unite us in the body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

18

Through him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, we worship you, Father almighty, in songs of everlasting praise: All Blessing and honour and glory and power be yours for ever and ever. Amen. The Lords Prayer Kneel or sit Rejoicing in Gods new creation, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us All Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; your kingdom come; your will be done; on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

19

Breaking of the Bread Jesus says, I am the bread of life whoever eats this bread will live for ever. Lord, our hearts hunger for you; give us this bread always. Agnus Dei (Mass of St Thomas by David Thorne) As the bread is broken, we say or sing together Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace. Giving of Communion Alleluia.
