A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson will sum up the unit, by having students explain Nevada day and why we celebrate it. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 4th Skill Level: This will address all learners Grouping: Whole class discussion, independent research.

C. Materials: 20-30 minutes in the computer lab. Large construction paper Scissors, markers/crayons/colored pencils D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o C13.4.5 Explain why we celebrate Nevada Day.

Student-Friendly Standards I will research and explain why we celebrate Nevada Day.

E. Procedure: 1. Ask students what Nevada Day is, and why we get a holiday to celebrate it. Discuss this topic and see if anyone has anything to add. 2. Tell students that their next project is to research why we have Nevada Day. They are to pretend that they have a friend from out of town that wants to know all about Nevada day (when the celebration of Nevada Day started, any interesting facts about Nevada Day, how Nevada Day is celebrated, and so on). They will then create a Nevada day informational tri-fold to give to their out-of-town friend. 3. Go to the computer lab. The objective here is for students to do some research on the origins Nevada Day; they can print up pictures, and find facts online that they can use to put on their tri-fold. 4. After 20-30 minutes in the computer lab, have a class discussion on some of the findings. 5. After a brief discussion, have students get to work on their tri-folds. They can use pictures that they printed up in the computer lab, colorings, and of course facts. 6. CLOSURE: Allow students to present their tri-fold to the class along with something they learned about Nevada Day, while doing their research. When the presentations are done, hang their tri-folds in the hall for the school to see.

F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Student tri-folds, and facts shared during their presentation. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Student tri-fold will have plenty of information about Nevada Day. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I believe the easiest part for me will be listening to student presentations. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? Assisting students in the computer lab, and making sure they find valid information. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? You could research all wacky holidays found in the United States. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For those that dont understand why we celebrate Nevada Day; I will meet one on one and find out what they can tell me about Nevada day. Make sure they know its a holiday celebrating Nevada becoming a member of the union as the 36th state. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? Timing the lesson
