~Literal interpretation of scripture takes into account the meaning that the author intended to
convey.
Example: It's raining cats & dogs.
Meaning: Its raining hard.
B. Literalist Interpretation...NO!
~ Literalist interpretation takes the exact meaning of the words without consideration of popular
cultural meaning or the meaning that the author intended to convey.

A. The nine things that the Church teaches:

4. All of humanity is descended from an original pair of human beings - i.e. Adam and Eve.
5. Adam and Eve were created in an original state of holiness, justice, and immortality.
6. A divine command was laid upon man to prove his obedience to God [do not eat from the
tree ]
7. The transgression of that Divine Command at the instigation of Satan.
8. The loss of the state of holiness, justice, and immortality of our 1st parents [because of their
disobedience, Adam and Eve were kicked out of Paradise].
9. The promise of a future Redeemer, a Savior [Genesis 3:15, the protoevangelium, the first

V. Inerrancy of Scripture

It is absolutely wrong and forbidden either to narrow inspiration to certain parts only of Holy
Scripture or to admit that the sacred writer has erred. For the system of those who, in order to rid themselves
of these difficulties, do not hesitate to concede that divine inspiration regards the things of faith and morals,
and nothing beyond...this system cannot be tolerated.
It follows that those who maintain that an error is possible in any genuine passage of the
sacred writings either pervert the Catholic notion of inspiration or make God the author of such error.
...all the Fathers and Doctors [of the Church] agreed that the divine
writings, as left by
the [sacred authors], are free from all error, [and] they labored earnestly, with no less skill than reverence, to
reconcile with each other those numerous passages which seem at variance.
St. Augustine writing to St. Jerome: On my own part I confess that it is only to those books of
Scripture which are now called canonical that I have learned to pay such honor and reverence as to believe
most firmly that none of their writers has fallen into any error. And if in these books I meet anything which
seems contrary to truth I shall not hesitate to conclude that the text is faulty or that the translator has not
expressed the meaning of the passage, or that I myself do not understand.

When first reading a book of Scripture, try to read several chapters at a time to get the big picture ,
and then, after finishing the book, go back and study the chapters one at a time.
At the very front of the book, Genesis 2:24, we see the Sacrament of Matrimony: ...and they become
one flesh. At the end of the book, Revelation, chapters 19 and 21, we read of the wedding feast of the Lamb.
The Bible, beginning and end and all in between is about marriage of the Lamb to His Bride, the Church to us.
Read the Bible as a letter from your Divine Spouse. Pray to Him for guidance.

Called in the Gospels the mother of Jesus , Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth, at the prompting of the Spirit and
even before the birth of her son, as the mother of my Lord . In fact, the One whom she conceived as man by
the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father's eternal Son,
the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the Church confesses that Mary is truly Mother of God
(Theotokos).

A. Protestant Beliefs.
~Accept Jesus Christ into your hearts

~One way ticket to heaven; nothing can derail the train

~Since works do not gain our salvation, works cannot contribute to our losing our salvation.

B. One Protestant writes:
However, it is not merely from the Levitical laws that we were discharged, but also from the
moral ones. God only has one law. Does that mean we can sin freely? No, for God hates sin, and if we love
God, we will live according to His commandments. However, it does mean that no sin will be held against us
once we receive Christ, for upon receiving Christ we are discharged from the very law against which our sins
would have been reckoned.

~ Once saved, always saved stems from this doctrine. Since sola fide (faith alone) can be
shown to be false, the basis for once saved, always saved crumbles.

Faith is a personal act - the free response of the human person to the initiative of God who reveals himself.
But faith is not an isolated act. No one can believe alone, just as no one can live alone. You have not given
yourself faith as you have not given yourself life. The believer has received faith from others and should hand
it on to others. Our love for Jesus and for our neighbor impels us to speak to others about our faith. Each
believer is thus a link in the great chain of believers. I cannot believe without being carried by the faith of
others, and by faith I help support others in the faith.

100%. But I don't necessarily agree with your interpretation of that passage.
When you are given a Scripture verse that proves the Catholic Church is wrong, do two things:

Remember: The Bible is a Catholic book. There is not a single article of the Catholic faith that is opposed to
anything in the Bible!

more than one teacher. Does scripture contradict itself? No! Jesus is the head of the Body. Jesus grants

D. Symbolic body & blood...NO!
~ Do Protestants believe that they get eternal life from symbolically eating bread and drinking
grape juice? Certainly not.
~How is this a hard saying if Jesus is speaking symbolically ?
~Symbolic bread & grape juice harder to believe than miracle of the loaves & fishes? Harder
than Jesus walking on water?
~Why didn't Jesus explain that he was talking symbolically so that the disciples wouldn't leave?
