BCC Intensive English Program Grade Six Course Syllabus for Semester 1 / 2013-2014

Course Objectives: To encourage children to be active and constructive in their own learning, using English as a tool to do things and to create personally significant meaning. To integrate learning English with other areas of learning at primary school. To help children learn how to learn and to encourage them to begin to become responsible, independent, reflective learners. To promote an atmosphere of co-operation and collaboration in class.

24 May 20 June 7 Over the course of this unit students will be working on the unit titled Amazing People. During this unit students will learn to talk about famous people. They will also learn about meaning from context.

Unit 2 Our Stories 57 June 10June 28 Over the course of the next three weeks students will be working on the unit titled Our Stories. During this unit students will learn to talk about family and friends. They will also be using simple past and present perfect tense. Reading CAT Week 7 Unit 3 Skills and Abilities Over the course of the next three weeks students will be working on the unit titled Skills and Abilities. During this unit students will learn to talk about careers and the skills and abilities needed to perform well in these careers. Writing CAT Week 8 Unit 4 Into the Future Over the course of the next three weeks students will be working on the unit titled Into the Future. During this unit students will learn to talk about life in the future. They will also be talking about technology of the future and how it will relate to their own lives.
