Ardac Elite EP User Guide

1 Introduction
Ardac Elite EP is a simple-to-operate, battery-powered, hand-held device that connects to Ardac Elites update/diagnostics panel via a USB cable. It enables fast and simple updating of Ardac Elite core firmware and note tables, and the extraction of Ardac Elite usage data. Core firmware and note tables are provided on the accompanying Ardac Elite EP CD and should be copied to a laptop or PC, from where they can be loaded, via a USB connection, into Ardac Elite EP. Future updates to the firmware and note tables can be downloaded from the Money Controls web site. UPLOAD MODE: Having been loaded with the new data, the Ardac Elite EP is plugged in to an Ardac Elite in a host machine and the firmware and/or note tables are automatically updated within a matter of seconds. Before updating, Ardac Elite EP checks which protocol is used (Netplex, ID003 or ccTalk) and writes the update accordingly. AUDIT MODE: An Ardac Elite EP can be set to extract performance data from Ardac Elite for analysis by appropriate PC software. This data includes acceptance rate tables from Ardac Elite counters. At least 250 audit counts can be stored on a single Ardac EP. STORAGE MODE: The Ardac Elite EP can be used to improve the acceptance levels by actually storing the note data for rejected notes. In this mode, the EP sits inside the machine and connects to the rear USB port. When a note is rejected, the data from that note is transferred to the EP. Any other rejections within 30 secs are ignored as they are deemed to be the same note inserted again. This data can then be sent to Money Controls for analysis.

Uploading firmware
There are three types of firmware file, one for each of the available protocols for Ardac Elite: ID003, Netplex and ccTalk. You will need to know which protocol applies to the Ardac Elite being programmed when selecting the firmware file to upload. The files are identified as follows: Netplex COMBINED XE024 ID003 AE3 ccTalk AEC Note: It is possible that you might have a range of machines using different protocols, e.g. some using ID003, some Netplex and some using ccTalk. If this is the case, the Ardac Elite EP will allow you to program each one individually. Up to six firmware versions can be programmed into EP. There are two modes for loading firmware files on to the Ardac Elite EP: Update: this uploads the latest version of the same firmware type Overwrite: this uploads an earlier version of the same firmware type. Overwrite requires Headmaster access for which an authorisation code is required, please contact Money Controls for further information. NOTE:- IGT Netplex will be supplied with combined Firmware and Tables. When updating Netplex Ardac Elites then Overwrite mode should be used. The Ardac Elite EP CD contains the version of the Ardac Elite firmware that was current when the device was shipped. If there have been subsequent updates, the latest version of the firmware can be downloaded from the Money Controls web site.

Uploading note tables

Note tables: Note tables are available for most of the worlds currencies. Generally, an Ardac Elite will accept more than one denomination of note, and possibly different currencies. Usually, a currency specification will contain the note tables for all denominations of a particular currency issued by a specified bank. However, occasionally MCL will supply on request, note tables for more than one currency that can be accepted at the same time, or individually inhibited via a dipswitch. There are three modes for loading note table files on to the Ardac Elite EP: Update: this uploads the latest version of the note table files for the same currency already programmed. Overwrite: this uploads earlier versions of the note table files for the same currency already programmed. Master Overwrite: this uploads note table files for a different currency than that already programmed. Master Overwrite requires Headmaster access for which an authorisation code is required. Please contact Money Controls for further information. NOTE: Tables for Netplex Ardac Elites are combined with the firmware and cannot be uploaded separately. The Ardac Elite EP CD contains the version of the appropriate Ardac Elite note tables that were current when the device was shipped. If there have been subsequent updates, the latest note tables can be downloaded from the Money Controls web site see The Spectacle Manual for more information.

To test the EP is working, ensure the LED is constant Green. Enter a known false note. The note will be held in escrow for a few seconds and then returned more slowly than usual for a true reject note. The LED will flash Green and the return to constant Green after about 8 seconds. If the note is entered again before 30 seconds has elapsed, then the note will reject as normal. If the LED flashes Red, then there is no communication with the Ardac Elite. Reasons could be:1. The EP is not connected to the Ardac Elite correctly. 2. The rear FTDI chip on the Ardac Elite is not programmed. If this is the case, then another Ardac Elite must be used. The rear FTDI cannot be programmed in the field.
