Sydney Carroll Period 5 2/11/13 Research on Huey P.

Newton Huey P newton was born in Monroe Louisiana and raised in Oakland California. He grew up poor and ashamed of being black. Huey P Newton was the co-founder of the Black Panther party along with Bobby Seale. Everything was Hueys Newton responsibly. He made sure police men did not attack innocent black people on the streets of Oakland and created the inner city breakfast program. The program provided food and educational opportunities for young black children throughout Oakland. Huey P newton became a Black Panther because growing up his white teachers tried to rob him from his own sense of uniqueness and made him feel less of a man by being racist towards him and brain washing him to believe that black was bad. He also wanted to empower young black kids to be successful and prevent them from suffering like he did as a child. Before Huey Newt once became a black panther, he graduated from Oakland Technical High school and attended Merritt College where he received his AA degree. Later on he studied law at Oakland City College and San Francisco law school. Allegedly, Huey Newton robbed houses to support his financial issues through college. Huey Newton believed that it was his duty to help the black community. He also believed that all African Americans should have the right to bear arms and fight against police brutality. One of his famous quotes is My fear was not of death itself, but a death without meaning. In other

words, Newtons biggest fear was dying without a purposeful cause. Huey wrote: War against the Panthers, To die for the People, and revolutionary Suicide. During Newtons last years he began to use drugs and suffered from paranoia. He believed that the FBI was watching him everywhere he went and that all of his friends were informants for the feds. On August 22, 1989, Huey P. Newton was fatally shot in West Oakland by a drug dealer named Tyrone Robinson. His last words were You can kill my body but you cant kill my soul. My soul will live forever!
