What Can Students Do?

And Other Essential Information to Make Administration More Accountable

Our Mission
The mission of The Hamlin and Stefanko Administration Accountability Commission (HSAAC) is to hold the Administration and the Board of the Town of Webb Union Free School District accountable and responsive to its students in a world where they are becoming more unattached and uninvolved with our student body. As said by 2012 Presidential Candidate Jon Huntsman Jr, there is a trust deficit between authority and the people it governs. This is true for the relationship between our student body and our administration. Students dont trust in their administration to do the job they need to do effectively, and the administration feels no need to reach out to students when they voice their concerns. We hope to be a diplomatic solution to the existing tensions and help bring together the students and administration in a way that makes our school work better, more efficiently and with less behindclosed-doors governance. We hope to be the people that students can come to with their every concern, whether it is how the school spends its money, sports equipment or academic concerns. We are a resource made by students, for the students, allowing for maximum effectiveness and efficiency in performing our mission.

What Can Students Do?

The question has been asked time and time again: What can we as students do? Although it seems unlikely that students can change the way a school is run, it is fully possible with hard work and determination. When eleven students spoke up for instrumental music instructor Greg Clark at the School Board meeting on May 22, 2013, it sent a strong message that students can stand up to the administration for whats right. That night sparked a feeling of change in how the students view the administration. Students commented on how that night was the most disappointed theyd ever been with the school and how things needed to change. That is where we come in. We help organize petitions, bring the concerns of the students to the board and administration through attending meetings, writing letters and organizing student action against the bad decisions made by our administration, and so much more to come.

Want to Join the Commission?

We at HSAAC are always looking for students who are willing to commit their time and effort to assist HSAAC in our goal of helping students stand up to decisions that counter the interests of the student body. Some info about joining us: 1. CMs are expected to attend all Commission Meetings (monthly and strategy sessions after School Board Meetings), usually held at the school or at our Commission Meeting Room, which is TBC. If you cannot make it to a meeting, please notify either Mr. Hamlin or Mr. Stefanko at least three (3) days in advance. 2. CMs are on the Commission to gather ideas and the sentiment from the general student body so we can decide what issues to tackle or bring to the administration. 3. Although you are not expected to personally support every initiative we put forward, we expect that you would help us advance it in the administrative process. 4. You can resign from the Commission by sending in a letter of resignation and waiting for the Commission to vote on it at the next meeting or strategy session. You may NOT vote on your own resignation. 5. Any questions can be submitted to either Casey Hamlin or Daniel Stefanko. You can apply at www.hsaac.webs.com/contact-us.
