Introduction: The story of Fatima the moving story of the appearances of our Blessed Mother before three shepherd children is one of the most talked about events of the century. It is being told the world over. In this, the worlds most tragic hour, our Lady of Fatima calls out to each one of us, urging us to develop, each to his own way; our resources of spiritual good, doing our share by way of PENANCE, PRAYER, especially of the HOLY ROSARY and good deeds. The message of Fatima should linger on: I AM THE LADY OF THE ROSARY. I HAVE COME TO WARN THE FAITHFUL TO AMEND THEIR LIVES AND ASK PARDON FOR THEIR SINS. THEY MUST NOT CONTINUE TO OFFEND OUR LORD. SPECIAL PRAYER FOR THE FIRST DAY Intention: REPARATION OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY Oh, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Fatima, inspire us to grieve sincerely for the sins that weigh heavily upon the souls of men. Sorrowfully, we recall the bitter and harsh punishment heaped upon your Divine Son; when He was cruelly scourged at the pillar, unmercifully crowned with thorns, shamefully slapped, spot upon, taunted, insulted, laugh at. We recall His sad and painful journey to Calvary. His falling down to the ground for three times; While carrying his cross. His sufferings due to the weight of the cross and the sins of the world Our Sins. His most excruciating pain when brutally nailed to the cross and his very ignominious death on the cross. Yet, they were, but the instruments of pain. It was our sins that really and truly cause, His precious blood to be shed. Third Day: __________ May ____, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIIMA: MOTHER MOST FAITHFUL Introduction: The Blessed Virgin First Appeared to three little Shepherds at Fatima, a Portuguese village 60 miles north of Lisbon. Jacinta aged 7, Francisco aged 9, and Lucia aged 10 were peacefully pasturing their sheep on a plateau outside the village Cova da Iria, when suddenly in the wake of a flash of Light, they beheld a woman on a bright cloud over a small oak tree. The Lady was of incomparable beauty and freshness. Her vesture was pure white and a mantle edged with gold covered her head and flowed round her body. A golden cord ending in a tassel hang around her neck. Her hands were piously joined before her breasts, and from her right hand hung a white Rosary of pearly beads. With a smile of maternal tenderness, but somewhat sad, she gently beckoned the children to approach, saying: HAVE NO FEAR, I WILL DO YOU NO HARM. I COME FROM HEAVEN I WANT YOU TO COME HERE ON THE 13TH OF EACH MONTH UNTIL OCTOBER. THEN, I WILL TELL YOU WHO I AM. FOURTH DAY: ____________, May ___, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIMA: MOTHER OF GOOD COUNSEL Introduction: The news of the apparition spread about Fatima, but the children were not believed by the villagers. They were reprimanded instead. Nevertheless, some 60 or 70 people accompanied the little shepherds to the plateau on the 13 th of June. Again the beautiful lady from heaven appeared and recommended the frequent recitation of the Rosary to the children. The Lady also urged the children to practice mortifications, saying: PRAY MUCH AND MAKE SACRIFICES FOR SINNERS. MANY SOULS GO TO HELL BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE TO MAKE SACRIFICES AND TO PRAY FOR THEM. When the Lady came again on the 13th of July, some 5,000 people were present and they were informed by the children of a great miracle to be performed at the site in October. FIFTH DAY: __________, May ___, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIMA: MOTHER OF PERPETUAL HELP Introduction: The Bishop of Leirira, in his Pastoral Letter on the Apparition, said that thousand of people whose truthfulness he could not doubt, saw a light cloud filling the air as it were with an iridescent dust which surrounded the tree. Because of the story, then spreading far and wide the country , a persecution of the children was conducted by those in civil authority and there was a campaign of vilification against them. On the 13th of August, more than 15,000 people went to Cova da Iria. They were, however, disappointed upon discovering that the children had been kidnapped and imprisoned. Nevertheless, the Lady appeared to the children a few days later and manifested a desire for the erection of a new church in her honor. SIXTH DAY: __________, May ___, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIMA: MOTHER MOST PURE Introduction: On the 13th of September, more than 50,000 people gathered at the site of the Ladys apparition. Once more the Lady appeared and bade the children to say the Rosary for the ending of war. A luminous globe coming from east to west in the clear sky was seen by many witnesses and what appeared to be flakes of snow or rose petals fell in great quantity, disappearing before they touched the ground. this extraordinary phenomenon was photographed by a chance visitor to Fatima, Antonio Robelo, vice consul of the united States, On the 13th of October, despite incessant rain, an enormous crowd of more than 70,000 assembled from all corners of Portugal and even from distant countries of Europe. SEVENTH DAY: __________, May ___, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIMA: GATE OF HEAVEN Introduction: Lucia at the suggestion of the authorities, asked the usual question. Who are you and what do you want? And the lady answered. I AM THE LADY OF THE ROSARY, I HAVE COME TO WARN THE FAITHFUL TO AMEND THEIR LIVES AND ASK PARDON FOR THEIR SINS. THEY MUST NOT CONTINUE TO OFFEND OUR LORDWHO HAS BEEN SO DEEPLY OFFENDED. THEY MUST SAY THE ROSARY. The lady also said that she wished a church to be built in Cova da Iria, and if people would amend their lives, the war would end. Suddenly an extraordinary event took place. The heavy rain ceased and the sun resembling an eclipse emerged from the dark sky and revolved three times within ten minutes, casting off great shafts of colored light which flashed and fell upon sky and earth. EIGHT DAY: __________, May ___, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIMA: MOTHER MOST AMIABLE Introduction: This phenomenon said the Bishop of Leiria, which was not registered in any astronomical observatory- a fact which shows that it was not natural- was seen by persons of every class and grade of society, by believers and skeptics, by journalists representing the principal Portuguese newspapers and even by persons miles away. This destroys any explanation based on collective illusion. It was not until 1930 that church authorities declared the apparition worthy of belief. Today, immense pilgrimages are a common sight in Fatima. There stands a Basilica, containing 15 Rosary chapels which marks the hallowed spot of the apparition. NINTH DAY: _________, May ___, 20___ Theme: OUR LADY OF FATIMA: REFUGE OF SINNERS Introduction: Francisco who had been told to have said so many Rosaries for a happy death, dies holily on April 4, 1919. Jacinta was not quite ten years of age when she died in the odor of sanctity on February 29, 1920, three years after the apparition. She was buried in the cemetery of Fatima beside her brother Francisco. Lucia on the other hand entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Dorothy some years after the death of her childhood companions. She is now sister Mary of the Immaculate Heart, a member of the Carmelite Order in Coimbra, Portugal. It was no innocent children that you deigned to appear, revealing the message of Fatima, and charging them with its propagation. We know no better way to show our regard for them, dear Mother, than to offer our prayers for all children anywhere. Therefore, O Mother dear, we ask you to watch over all children to all parts of the world, to guard and protect their homes, to preserve the schools wherein they study and learn, and to keep them from being tainted with godless education. Direct them in their play and in all their works, that they may grow in age, wisdom and the love of God. May her desires issued at Cova da Iria through the little shepherd children, to renew devotions to our heavenly Mothers rosary, ring out over all the earth.
