Title of Activity: Tower Of Power

Number of Teams & Group Size: Minimum 3 people per group Maximum 5 people per group At least 2 teams

Logistics Needed: For Each Team: A set of 10 - 15 building blocks / cubes / square dice, each building blocks / cubes / square dice must be smaller than 3 cm (L) x 3 cm (B) x 3 cm (H), and 1 x Blindfold / Sleep Mask For Facilitator: 1 x Stop Watch

Time Allocated: 20 - 40 minutes

Goal: To successfully stack as many building blocks as possible into a tower within the allocated time.

Preparation & Set-Up: Ensure sufficient tables and chairs for all participants. Ensure sufficient building blocks / cubes / square dice for each team. Each team should receive 10 - 15 building blocks / cubes / square dice, as well as 1 x Blindfold / Sleep Mask. Each building blocks / cubes / square dice should be smaller than 3 cm (L) x 3 cm (B) x 3 cm (H). Distribute the building blocks / cubes / square dice and blindfold / sleep mask.

Directions for Conducting the Activity: 1. Inform participants to gather around their table within their allocated groups. Ask them to ensure they are seated comfortably, and that the table has sufficient space. 2. Inform participants that they are to construct the tallest tower possible using the building blocks. Within their groups, they must each take turns to stack 1 building block at a time.

3. However, whenever it is their turn to stack the building block, they must do so with their eyes closed / blindfolded. 4. Tell participants that they have to rely on their group members for instructions to correctly stack each block. 5. Inform them that should they knock over the tower, the next person will then carry on from whatever is left. 6. Tell participants that they have a specific time with which to complete building their tower (~ 5 - 10 minutes, depending on group size). 7. Begin the activity. During the activity, observe how each group performs. Note their behaviour for the debrief. 8. Once the allocated time is up, call time. Invite each group to display the number of building blocks theyve managed to stack into a tower. Record the results of this first round. 9. Invite participants to give a number of how many building blocks they think theyre able to stack in the second round. Once each group has stated their number, begin the second round using the same amount of allocated time. 10. When time is up, record the results. Again, invite each group to give the number of building blocks they wish to stack for the third round. Begin the third and final round. 11. Call time, and share the overall results of all 3 rounds. Then proceed into the debrief.

Specific Rules: 1. Within their own groups, participants must each take a turn to stack 1 building block. 2. During their turn, participants must have their eyes closed / covered / blindfolded at all times. Group members should advice this participant on how to stack the building block. 3. The building blocks must be stacked on top of each other into a tower. 4. If a participant knocks over the tower, the next group member will start with whatever remains of the tower. 5. Groups must stop building when the allocated time is up.

Variations: 1. Use a point system, where each block represents 1 point. Invite each group to give a number before each round. If they meet their target, they get the relevant number of points. If they exceed the target, they do not get any extra points. But if they fail to meet the target, they will get 0 points.

Learning Points: Teamwork Communication Integrity Trust Perseverance Patience Precision in Giving Instructions Handling Failure / Challenges / Disappointment Working With Deadlines

Facilitator Notes: During the activity, ensure participants are not cheating by having their eyes open while stacking the building blocks.
