INTRODUCTION: A pleasant morning/afternoon. The subject that we are going to tackle is Troop Leading Procedures, but before we proceed, allow me to introduce myself. Your instructor for this morning/afternoon is a native from Tigaon, Camarines Sur, twenty two (22) years of age and a undergraduate of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at Jose Rizal University, I entered the military at the age of twenty (20) and I took Basic Military Training ctw Special Forces Operation Orientation Course on 01 December 2010 to 01 July 2011 at Special Forces Regiment Airborne, Special Operation Command, Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija. And now presently assigned at National Capital Region Regional Community Defense Group, Army Reserve Command, Fort Andres Bonifacio, Metro Manila, ladies and gentlemen I am Pfc Jose Benjamin O Bosito 894055 (Inf) PA.

LESSON OBJECTIVE: 3. BODY: A) DEFINITIONS OF TERMS: Troop Leading Procedures: a) b) Process a leader goes through to prepare his unit to accomplish a tactical mission. Begins when he is alerted for a mission and starts again when he receives a change or a new mission. Identify the purpose of Troop Leading Procedure Discuss and explain the following steps of Troop Leading Procedure Give emphasis to the importance and advantage of Troop Leading

Warning Order (WARNO)

Army Core Purpose: Serving the people, Securing the land.

Army Vision: By 2028, a world-class Army that is a source of national pride An order that alerts the troops to an upcoming offensive or defensive mission and contains enough information to begin preparing as soon as possible. Operation Order (OPORD) An order that gives the troops the details they need to conduct an offensive or defensive operationan OPORD usually includes five paragraphs: situation, mission, execution, service support, and command and signal. LOQ? What is the Deference between WARNO & OPORD? Fragmentary Order (FRAGO) An abbreviated form of an OPORDit can be verbal, written, or digital B) Importance of TLP: You use procedures every day. You change your flat tire with a procedure: You loosen the lug nuts, you jack up the car, you remove the nuts, you remove the flat, you put on the spare, you replace the nuts, you lower the car, and you tighten the nuts. Q? What happens when you violate the procedure? What happens when you jack up the car before you have loosened the lug nuts? ANS: The wheel spins and you cant loosen the nuts. It doesnt work. The Army has procedures for leading troops. The Army calls themnot surprisingly troop leading procedures (TLP). When you follow them, you increase the likelihood of accomplishing your mission and minimizing casualties. If you do not follow them, you will endanger your Soldiers and your mission. The leader who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple before the battle is fought. The leader who loses a battle makes but few calculations beforehand. Sun Tzu LOQ? How things may do? C) Eight 8 Steps In TLP: STEP 1 RECEIVED THE MISSION A mission may be received in a form either in a written or oral warning order, operation order (OPORD), or fragmentary order (FRAGO). A warning order gives a commander enough information about the mission so that he can start to prepare. First instruction may, however come in the form of an OPORD. When the Battalion OPORD issued, the Company Commander should have his weapon platoon leader and fire support team (FIST) chief with him. He may also have other key leaders with him.

Army Core Purpose: Serving the people, Securing the land.

Army Vision: By 2028, a world-class Army that is a source of national pride As soon as the commander received his orders; he analyzes his mission and plans, the use of time that includes making a timer schedule. He identifies the things that must be done and works background from time he want his unit to be ready. This is reverse planning. The Company Commander must not use available time for his planning. He should allocate time for his subordinate leader to reconnoiter, plan and prepare (a guideline is; the commander use of one-third (1/3) of the time and two-thirds (2/3) for subordinate leaders). STEP 2 ISSUE WARNING ORDER The Company Commander issues his warning order immediately after receiving the Battalion warning order. He issue to his Platoon Leaders, FIST chief, XO and ISG. It let them start preparing for the operation while he continues his plans and prepares his OPORD. A warning order should include: The mission Time of operation Any specific instruction Time and place of OPORD

STEP 3 MAKE A TENTATIVE PLAN Based on the mission, enemy, terrain, weather and troops and time available, the Company Commander makes a tentative plan. That is METTTC. What is the company MISSION? What are the stated implied tasks? What is the Enemy situation? What weapons and unit do they have in support? Are they mounted, dismounted or both? How can the TERRAIN AND WEATHER best be used? To get an answer to this question, he considers observation and field of fire, cover and concealment, obstacles, key terrain, avenue of approach. He considers the effect of weather that will have on personnel, equipment, visibility and traffic ability.

Observation and field of fire dictate where platoons and weapons are positioned where it can support the bounding element. In the defense, platoon and weapon crews are positioned to cover likely avenues of approach. A Company Commander also considers enemys observation in fields of fire, a commander tries to reduce them be suppressing or obscuring the enemys observation with fire smoke. Cover and concealment influence the choice of routes and positions. In the offense, a commander picks routes that have cover and concealment. In the defense, he picks position that provides the best cover and concealment. Obstacles influence the choice of routes in the offense and the choice of position in the defense. In the defense, the position of troops and weapons to Army Core Purpose: Serving the people, Securing the land.

Army Vision: By 2028, a world-class Army that is a source of national pride take advantage of obstacles that allow or stop the enemy. He reinforces existing obstacles. Key terrain is any feature that affords marked advantage to the force that seizes or retrieves it. A commander considers key terrain and the weather in the selection of positions in the defense. Avenues of approach are considered in conjunction with all direction of attack in the offense, and the assignment of position and sectors of fire in the defense. How many troops and how much time is available? These affect the selection of position, routes, formation and degree of preparation. As the commander studies these factors, he determines how they affect his mission. He develops a plan to take advantage of them. LOQ? METT-TC stands for? STEP 4 INITIATE MOVEMENT When practical, the Company Commander takes his platoon leader to an observation post or advantage point overlooking an objective and gives him OPORD. STEP 5 RECONNOITER To make use of the terrain in the area, the commander must see it. There are times he can only make a map reconnaissance, If he has time, and if the situation permits, he reconnoiters as much of the terrain as possible. On the reconnaissance, he confirms his tentative plan or changes it to better exploit the capabilities of his weapons and to gain his protection for his troops He normally takes his FIST chief, weapons platoon leader and other key personnel (as required) with him to let them reconnoiter the area too and get either advice. During the reconnaissance, the commander analyzes the terrain as discussed in STEP 3. He should also provide reconnaissance time to any subordinate leader who did not accompany with him on time of the reconnaissance. LOQ? How important of reconnaissance in TLP? STEP 6 COMPLETE THE PLAN After his reconnaissance, the company commander completes the details of the plan. In the defense, he decides where he puts his weapons and units, how to tie the defense together, and what support is needed. On the defense, he decides how to move his units and weapons, what support is needed and how to seize the objective. STEP 7 ISSUE THE ORDER

Army Core Purpose: Serving the people, Securing the land.

Army Vision: By 2028, a world-class Army that is a source of national pride The commander gives the OPORD orally. He issues it to platoon leader and mortar section leads, XO, ISG, FIST chief and leaders of any support units they are attached to under the operational control of the company. The details concerned in the order depend on the amount of information received, the complexity of operation of time available. The OPORD should be issued at advantage point of terrain features on the ground as on the map. If advantage point cannot be used, use of terrain mode or sketch help to clarify his OPORD. STEP 8 SUPERVISE A commander with the XO, ISG, and subordinate leaders supervise all operation and inspect to insure that men and equipment are ready. He inspects; Weapons and ammunitions Individual uniform and equipment Mission-essential equipment(explosives, surveillance, target acquisition, and night vision devices) Camouflage To see that the prescribed amount of rations and water are being carried.

The commander and his subordinate leaders ask question to make required tasks can be performed. These rehearsals builds confidence, improve performance, and help prevent confusion in combat. Rehearsal should be held to terrain similar to that objective area and during visibility and weather conditions similar to these expected during mission. Important things to be rehearsed: Fire and maneuver Actions on unexpected enemy contact Actions in assault Breaching the obstacles Assaulting a bunker or a building and Loading and unloading aircraft

Once operation is underway, officers and non-commissioned officers, insures that plan is followed. When unplanned situation arise, the commander modifies his plans as required. LOQ? What is supposed the commander action when plan was made? D) FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION: Steps may be combined, compressed Time devoted to each step varies Each should be considered to insure understanding, preparation and execution of operation

CONCLUSION: Army Core Purpose: Serving the people, Securing the land.

Army Vision: By 2028, a world-class Army that is a source of national pride

The troop leading procedures are your checklist for preparing your Soldiers for tactical missions. You begin to implement them as soon as you receive the alert to a new mission. The amount of time you can spend on each step depends largely on the amount of time available to you. In many cases, you will not have enough time to go through each step in detail, but you must still use the procedure to ensure you leave nothing out of your preparations. Remember the one-third, two-thirds rule and give your subordinates as much time as possible to prepare. Throughout the troop leading procedures, be aware of Murphys Law. Check and double-check. It will be your attention to detail, your careful planning, and your leadership of your Soldiers that will decide the success or failure of your mission.

SUMMARY: For the One hour and forty five minutes (1:45) we have discuss the definitions of troop leading procedure the importance of TLP in combat operation and what are the eight basic steps in troop leading procedure and what are those factors to be consider in TLP. Is there any question of clarification? If theres none, thats all for this morning/afternoon. Prepare for evaluation.
