Class: XI Subject : Physics Assignment No. 2

Three particles of masses 1 kg each are moving with v 1 = (2 i - j +k ) ms -1 , v 2 = (2i - 3j ) ms -1 and v 3 =( -2 i +3 k ) ms -1 respectively . Find velocity of C. M of the system. A body of mass 5x10-3 kg is launched upon a rough inclined plane making an angle 0f 300 with the horizontal. Obtain the coefficient of friction between the body and the plane if the time of ascent is half of the time of descent. A particle of mass 1gm executes an oscillatory motion on the concave surface of a spherical dish of radius 2m placed on a horizontal plane. If the motion of the particle starts from a point on the dish at the height =1cm from the horizontal plane and the3 coefficient of friction is 0.01, how much total distance will be moved by the particle before it comes to rest. A ball m of mass 0.5 kg tied at one end of a chord of length 50cm is revolved in a vertical circle. If the speed of the ball at the lowest point of the circle is 6m/sec, then will the be able to complete one round ? If yes, then what will be the speed of the ball at the highest point of the circle. A spring of spring constant k is compressed by x. Find work done by (i) spring (ii) external agent. A particle of mass m collides obliquely (elastic) with another particle of same mass at rest. Show that after collision both fly off perpendicularly. According to Newton's Second Law, more massive objects tend to be harder to accelerate. Why then do all objects, regardless of mass accelerate at the same rate when in free fall? The coefficient of static friction between a box of mass 1 0 kg and a truck bed is 0. 4 What is the maximum possible acceleration of the truck for which the box does not slide on the truck bed? A mass m hangs at the end of a massless string attached to the roof of a truck. The motion is such that the string makes a constant angle _ with the vertical. What must be the acceleration of the truck for this situation to be possible. (This forms the basis for a simple means to measure the acceleration of an object.) A ball is dropped from rest at a height of 20m. If it loses 30% of its kinetic energy on striking the ground, what is the height to which it bounces? How do you account for this loss in kinetic energy? Why is no energy being consumed in planetary motion? If 20 Joules of work is done in compressing a spring from 0 cm to 6 cm then find the work done in compressing the same from3cm to 6 cm. State and prove work energy theorem for variable force. A block of mass m is placed on the inclined surface of a wedge of mass M. Find the acceleration of the wedge if the frictional forces are negligible. A balloon with mass M is descending down with an acceleration a<g, Calculate the mass m of its contents that must be removed so that it starts moving up with the same acceleration.

A block slides down an inclined plane of slope with constant velocity. It is then projected up the same plane with an initial velocity v0. How far up the inclined plane will it move before coming to rest. A particle of mass m is moving in a horizontal circle of radius r under a centripetal force equal to k/r2, where k is a constant. What is the total energy of the particle? A single constant force F acts on a particle of mass m. The particle starts at rest at t=0.find the instantaneous power delivered. If F=20N, m=5kg, what is the power delivered at t=5s? A pendulum bob swings in a vertical circle with constant energy E. What is the difference between the tensions at the lower most point and the top most point of circle. Two particles of masses m1 and m2 separated by a distance d are at rest initially. If they move towards each other under mutual interaction , where will they meet ?
