The psalmist in Psalm 78:4-7 expresses the need to pass on ones faith to the next generation.
Over the past year we, as a church have done this in a variety of ways. Parents have told me they
began to pray with their children. Our fellowships group leaders have strategized how to meet the
needs of the youngest members of their groups.
Our Sunday school teachers and helpers utilized every moment of the 72 hours our children are in
CRCC Kids. They spent time prepping lessons, training to teach Gods word and loving the
children of our church. We are blessed to have such committed teachers and helpers serving in
our church. The result is a growth in our children, in September we increased from 3 Sunday
school classes to 4. It has been fun to welcome new friends to our group.
The children grew not only in numbers but spiritually. God heard and answered the prayers of the
children of our church. He provided safety for those traveling, school exams were easier, cuts and
scrapes healed quickly, government documents moved smoothly and even a puppy was provided.
I have seen them explain the Gospel message to each other. Several of them have expressed the
desire to serve in our church. When I think about our children I am reminded of how God used
David to defeat Goliath.
Some of our youth choose to deepen their relationship with God through baptism. Three were
baptized in April and another three in December. It is wonderful to witness these young people
expressing their faith. The younger children look up to these older children. Paul instructs
Timothy, in 1 Timothy 4:12 despite his youth he still needed to set an example. Our youth have
embraced this as they are passing on their faith to those younger than themselves.
During the retreat, September long weekend the children and youth had fun as they learned about
Gods love. We made crazy hats, played games and shared snacks. The fellowship time was a
valuable time for all ages. It was a chance to build relationships and grow together spiritually in a
beautiful setting.
In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus final words to his disciples is to Go and make disciples. During this
past year, I have witnessed this take place in our Childrens Ministry. The children in our church
are growing closer to God. They are learning how to serve and minister to others. We are making
disciples of our children but our children are also learning how to make disciples.
God has granted my family and I have the privilege of serving this past year with the children at
Calgary Rainbow Christian Church, for which I am grateful.
