Jyotish Basics (elementary principles) The following are the most important principles for arriving at correct predictions. One should apply them systematically and precisely, using common sense to become skilled in making significant and accurate predictions. 1) The part of the body represented by the Rashi of the Kala Purusha can be afflicted if it is occupied by a malefic. This manifestation will be even more likely if that Rashi has become the 8th Bhava (Vulnerable Point). 2) A Graha occupying a Bhava has an influence on the matters connected with that Bhava according to the Grahas nature, i.e., a positive influence if he is benefic, and a negative one if he is a malefic. 3) The Graha has an influence on the Bhava: a) The matters and areas of life connected with a graha and the matters and areas of life connected with the Bhava he occupies combine in such a way that the Bhava is predominant. Therefore the Graha adds some attributes to the matters related to the Bhava. (E.g., knowledge for Guru gets combined with self and body for the 1st Bhava: knowledgeable self and healthy body.) b) An abstract principle represented by a Graha can be combined with the matters related to the Bhava he occupies. (E.g., the abstract principle for Sukra is reproduction or increase. Sukra in the 2nd Bhava, which is wealth, leads to increase of wealth, and in the 3rd Bhava, which is coborns or siblings, Sukra leads to many brothers and sisters.) 4) The matters and areas of life connected with a Graha (e.g., knowledge for Guru), and the matters of life connected with the Bhava he occupies (e.g., Dharma or Natural Law for the 9th Bhava) may form a combination in which the Graha represents a part of the personality of the native which is predominant (e.g., he has knowledge about Natural Law). This principle should be applied only where appropriate and sensible. 5) Grahas joined in the same Bhava will influence each other. But since the Bhava they occupy will also have an effect, there will be combinations as follows: a) The conjoined effect of the Grahas influences the matters related to the Bhava they occupy. b) The conjoined effect of the Grahas is in turn influenced by the matters related to the Bhava they occupy. 6) The Grahas receive an influence from the Rashi they occupy. This influence determines the strength of the Graha and will modify and accentuate his significations. 7) The Rashi which has turned into a Bhava influences that Bhava according to the Rashis characteristics and significations. This is of special importance in the case of the Lagna. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
