The Fishwick Area is a Multi-Cultural area with several languages spoken by the residents; we overcame these language barriers by sending out all information translated into several languages and also by engaging the services of local interpreters.

Project: Greenlands
The Greenland Estate is managed by Community Gateway Housing Association. These properties are classed as hard to treat. The estate consists of a mixed range of semi-detached and blocks of four properties. In Partnership with Mears Group Ltd, we attended a range of meetings with the clients Community Gateway to provide advice/consultation on the measure that were being delivered, we also advised the client on the different ranges of products/finishes that were available to achieve the necessary U value. The project contract was to insulate 257 Housing Association Properties. EGR provided full site management and resident liaison support throughout the project. All properties were surveyed, scaffold, enabled and fully insulated. 7 weeks before the end of the project, more funding was made available to insulate the private properties on the estate. We were very successful in consulting, signing up, surveying and insulating 72 private owners.

Project greenlands, Preston - External Wall Insulation to 329 properties - Mixed tenure. Value 2.1 million. Timescale 18 weeks.

Project: Fishwick
Cuts carbon emissions.
The Fishwick area in Preston consists of hard to treat terrace houses predating 1919. As the main contractor our remit for this programme was to establish if these properties would benefit from External Wall Insulation. To establish whether they were, we commissioned tests to be carried out on these properties by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, U-Value calculations were also carried out which helped gain full planning permission and secure funding via Anesco for the project to proceed. Once planning permission was in place, we carried out door to door consultations advising home owners and tenants of the free energy saving measures that were available. In addition to this we held public consultation events, at the local community centre, promoting the benefits of the energy saving measures that were on offer. The Fishwick Area is a Multi-Cultural area with several languages spoken by the residents; we overcame these language barriers by sending out all information translated into several languages and also by engaging the services of local interpreters. Out of the 420 properties that qualified for the free measures 375 owners, and housing providers, signed up with EGR to install the works on their properties. These 375 properties were all surveyed, scaffold erected, plumbing enabled and finally full insulation was applied. To ensure the project ran as smoothly as possible we liaised with local housing providers through the projects process. In addition to this we also worked closely with Building Control and Planning to help maintain the special design features on the terraced properties.

Project Fishwick, Preston - External Wall Insulation to 375 properties - Mixed tenure. Value 2 million. Timescale 16 weeks.

Helps lift end user out of fuel poverty; estimated savings of over 500 pa on fuel bills. Area Regenerated aesthetically uplifted. Estimated to add up to 10% to property value.

Internal Wall Insulation

In addition to our EWI Projects EGR are also experts in Internal Wall Insulation Solutions. Using Internal Wall Insulation helps improve a buildings thermal performance without affecting the exterior appearance. EGR is one of the leading experts in IWI and have utilised this on some of our projects already. During our Project at Fishwick we have had to use our expertise in this area as certain houses did not meet the requirements for EWI so EGR installed IWI to rectify this issue. In a few instances IWI may be the preferable option for a building, as it costs less to install than EWI. We are so confident of our work in Wall Insulation methods that we are currently in the process of opening our own training facility.

Quality Control
We at EGR believe that our clients should expect the best possible quality of work that can be delivered. To ensure our quality we have our own Quality Control Manager. Our Quality Control Manager ensures that all of work is of the highest standard possible. He does this by measuring quality at the 3 stages of the EWI process.

1. Insulation Process
Ensure that the correct size boarding has been used, The fixings are at the correct spacing positions 5 pins are used on each board That there are no gaps between the boards Ensure boards are sealed Inspect lower boarding to ensure trim pieces are installed

2. Scrimming Stage
Scrim applied evenly throughout the property Stress patches visible Correct size stress patches around openings. Inspects to ensure no exposed boarding Inspect finish to check if it is a scratched or smooth finish Inspect for cracks in scrim

3. Dashing Stage
Ensure that dashing finish is applied evenly Inspect and ensure that there are no bald patches Check for the same consistency is used throughout the property Ensure corner beading has been installed on all corners, and reveals, of property

Once our QC is happy with the work that has been done he will then invite the client to inspect the property themselves so that he may deal with any queries the client may have.

Getting it right.
Recent Wetherby site reports.
Stress patches visible and installed to correct specification. Good pinning and scrim coat, full coverage and finished with good key. Pinning and boarding installed to good standard. Properties finished to good standard with dash and quoin details. Good finish to the heads above top windows as not much to fix into, good detail and finish up to the fascia with PVC strip as recommended. Good boarding and fixing installation. Base coat is a good, neat standard with the correct size stress patches around openings. Good key coat ready to receive the dash finish. Tracking completed around corbel detailing along with neat silicone sealant works. Mark is running a good, clean site. It was a pleasure to walk around the area today and see all the elements of the WBS system being installed to the highest standard I have seen for some time. Boarding installation is neat and tidy, especially around all of the detailing to the fronts of the properties. Scrim coats will be nice to apply the dash coat onto as it is flat and neat along with a good key coat. Dash finish is also very good with all the PVC nosing to corner beads and movement joints being left sharp and clean.
