Brief course description:Human Resource Management encompasses those activities designed for the HUMAN RESOURCES of an organization. Management of Human Resources, also called HRM as a discipline, has emerged as a significant predictor of individual as well as organizational performance and a distinct source of sustainable competitive advantage for the firms. The human resources (HR) of an organization represent one of its largest investments. The value of an organizations human resources frequently becomes evident when the organization is sold. Often the purchase price is greater than the total value of the physical and financial assets. This difference, sometimes called GOODWILL, partially reflects the value of an organizations human resources. These organizations also recognize that all managers must engage in Human Resource Management activities, even in large organizations that have a specialized HRM department. These managers select, orient, train, support organizational members and then evaluate and reward their performance to build a sustainable competitive advantage for the firm.

Course aims: To provide contemporary knowledge of different HR practices and their impact on organizations. To increase the students understanding of the tools, techniques, procedures and programs used in different HR practices for effective management of organizational human resources. To illustrate that managers in an organization uses principles, ideas, approaches and techniques from many different disciplines to make the best possible decisions for employees. To develop students capacity to undertake all the necessary HR practices individually and in team. To improve the students awareness that single perfect answer to organizational problems does not exist. Thus an approach that considers the interaction of environment, the people and the situation is more meaningful in studying the subject.
