PROJECT PROPOSAL (SYNOPSIS)

TITLE: A STUDY ON TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PRACTICES AT SHOPPERS STOP LIMITED, HYDERABAD 1) INTRODUCTION FOR THE STUDY: Every organization needs the service of training persons for performing the activities in a systematic way the fact changing technological development makes the knowledge of employees obsolete. They require constant training to cope with the needs of jobs. After selecting the employees, the next task of management is to give them proper training some employees may have some previous knowledge of jobs while others may entirely be new. Both types of workers will need some kind of training to acquaint themselves with the jobs though it is more necessary for the later category of employees. Large organizations may employ a large number of persons every year. It may not be possible to recruit already trained training persons. Such enterprises to require separate for

understanding the jobs. Every concern has to arrange some kind of training for preparing workers for jobs and

also keeping them acquainted with latest technological advancements. Training is a process of learning a sequence of programmer behavior. It is application of knowledge According to CAMPBELL Training courses are

increasing the knowledge and skill of an employee for doing a specified job. Training involves active participation by the employees. Training is closely related with

education and development. Training and Education: Training is concerned with increasing knowledge and skill in doing a particular job and the major burden of training falls upon the business organization. On the other hand, education is concerned with increasing general knowledge and understanding of the total environment. Thus, education is broader in scope; its purpose is to develop an individual. Training is job-oriented (skill

learning) and education is person oriented (conceptual learning). Education is imparted through schools and colleges and it aims at improving the talents of a person. Training is practice based and company specific. Training and Development: Training is distinct from development. Training is short-term process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which non-managerial personnel learn

technical knowledge and skills for a definite purpose. Development is a long-term educational process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which managerial personnel learn conceptual and theoretical knowledge for general purpose. Training refers to instructions in technical and

mechanical operations like operating a machine. It is designed primarily for non-managers. It is for a short duration and for a specific job related purpose.

Development on the other hand, it involves broader education and its purpose is long-term development. Training helps an individual learn how to perform his present job satisfactorily. Development involves preparing

the individual for a future job and growth of individual in all respects. Training is mostly the result of initiatives taken by the management. It is the result of some outside motivation. Development is mostly the result of internal motivation. 2) NEED FOR THE STUDY: Training is the systematic process of enhancing the job related skill, attitude and knowledge of personal for the purpose of improving individual and organizational

performance. It helps employees to develop their skills and capability not only in the present job but also to develop for the future job, which may be entrusted in the future. The proposed study is an attempt to study training and development process related to employees working in the organization. The proposed study will evaluate the effect of training and development system on employee and their perception of the present system. 3) OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: The following are the objectives of the proposed study. 1. To study the impact of training on the employees.

2. To study the organizational gains with the training in the company. 3. To study how the training needs are identified. 4. To study whether training is helpful in satisfying individual needs as well as organization needs. 5. To study whether training is really helpful in reducing operational problems. 6. To know whether there is increase in productivity because of Training Programs. 7. To study how Training Programs contribute to the goals of the organization and how is the evaluation of Training Programs is done in the organization. 4) SCOPE OF THE STUDY: The scope of the study is restricted to the study of Training and Development Activities carried at

Shoppers Stop, Hyderabad branch only. Hence, the findings and conclusions drawn cannot be expected to be valid elsewhere out of the scope of the study. 5) RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: Methods of Data Collection:

There are two types of data namely, primary and secondary. The primary data are those which are collected a fresh and for the first time and thus happens to be original in character. The secondary data are those which have already been collected by someone and which have already been passed through the statistical process. 1. Primary Data: This is a descriptive research where researcher will personally interact with respondents and collect the data, which will play a major role in research. In the proposed study, primary data plays a vital role in drawing

conclusions and giving suggestions to the company. Questionnaires: This method of data collection is popular. In this method a questionnaire will be given to the employee concerned with a request to answer the printed or typed in a definite order on a form set of forms. In this research primary data will be collected through the questionnaires. Data will also be collected through observation and interview methods but more concentration will be on questionnaires.

2. Secondary Data: The data, which already exists, is called as secondary data. This data will be the result of a research which was done by someone and readily available. Here the researcher consider secondary to a required level, which will be very less in this study. The sources of collecting the secondary data in the proposed study will be through: Company Magazines, Text Books and Periodicals, News papers and Magazines, Company website and other Search engines. Sample Size: The study will be carried with the sample size of approximately 50 respondents. However, the sample size may further be increased, depending upon the need and progress of the supervisor. Sampling Technique: The sampling technique that will be used in the proposed study will be Random Sampling. study, after consulting my project

6) PERIOD OF THE STUDY: The study will be conducted to accomplish the above task and is planned to complete this in a span of 45 days. However, this may be further extended if the desired progress is not achieved during the above said period. 7) LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY: The following are the possible limitations of the proposed study: The study will be restricted only to the employees selected by the management. As the research areas will be conducted in a limited frame of time, a comprehensive and exhaustive undertake. The survey will be confined to the respondents working in Shoppers Stop, Hyderabad only. The study is purely depends upon the un-biased information and co-operation of the respondents which is no assurance to the researcher. study may not be possible to

The study will be purely dependent upon the cooperation of the respondents. The responses given by the respondents may not represent the true picture of the training and development activities carried at the organization.
