Rapid Curing Systems for Structural Applications

Introduction At Resolution Performance Products, were continually strengthening our commitment to our customers. Its what has helped us become and remain a leading supplier of epoxy resins and related products to a variety of industries for nearly 50 years a position we intend to maintain long term. Thats why weve recently completed several important strategic acquisitions that enable us to provide our customers a very broad line of EPON Resins and EPI-CURE Curing Agents. In fact, we are now able to offer our customers more than 400 innovative high performance resin products/systems for structural applications. The EPON Resins depicted in this brochure represent a unique class of compounds referred to as epoxy polyacrylate resins. While conventional epoxy resins lack the ability to fully cure at temperatures of 50 F and below, these epoxy polyacrylate resins react readily at low temperatures and very rapidly at ambient temperature when cured with appropriate aliphatic amine based curing agents.1 At A Glance With most exothermic reactions, mass size is a contributing factor to cure speed. Typically, slower cures are realized as mass size decreases. Epoxy polyacrylate resin systems, as a class, exhibit much less sensitivity to the effect of mass size upon reactivity than do conventional epoxy resins. This characteristic is observed especially with thin films. When comparing the properties of epoxy polyacrylate resin systems to those of more conventional fast curing resin systems, several performance features make these resins of particular interest. They are:
Inherent low viscosity Good physical strength and toughness High reactivity at both ambient and low temperatures Superior wetting characteristics Improved adhesive properties Moderate reaction exotherms Good film forming properties

Conventional epoxy resins are used with a variety of curing agents in a broad array of civil engineering and adhesive applications. Curing agents useful for room temperature curing of conventional epoxy resin systems include aliphatic amines, cycloaliphatic amines and modified aromatic amines. The EPI-CURE Curing Agents illustrated in this brochure are aliphatic amine based curing agents that can be used in combination with conventional epoxy resins and epoxy polyacrylate resins in ambient and low temperature applications. The Formulators Choice Each of these resins and curing agents provides unique benefits for epoxy resin formulators. Specific properties of our curing agents and comments about each products performance can be found on the technical summary chart.
