Water Purifier System

Overview:

Water is one of the natures most simple substances. Human body consists of 65% of water. One may live without food for more than a Month, but it is impossible not water for more than a day. On average, we consume 2.5 liters of water a day. Unfortunately, the water we consume can be polluted. Polluted water may look clean and even taste okay, but may contain germs and other impurities that cause water borne diseases. This is why it is extremely important to ensure that these impurities are removed before such water can be used safely for consumption. Contaminants are substances that cause water unfit for use. Some contaminants can be easily identified by assessing taste, odor and turbidity of the water. Most, however cannot be detected easily and requires testing to reveal whether the water is contaminated or not. If left unchecked, microbial contaminants can caused a whole host of water related disease like Gastric-enteritis, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Jaundice, Cholera, Polio, in fact over 80% of all human diseases is water borne. Contaminants are either man made or naturally occurring. For many years various techniques have been used to provide microbial control in water for industrial and domestic use. Water purification is a process of removing undesirable chemicals and other contaminants from contaminated water. It is essential to produce water fit for a specific purpose such as for human consumption and for a variety of other purpose like medical, pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. Water technologies are selected and applied using several determining factors including water source, type of contaminant and cost. For the most effective treatment, a combination technologies is used to insure water is fully decontaminated. Known water purification technologies used like distillation, ion exchange, activated carbon, microporous filters, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, elix continuous deionization and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Both has benefits and limitations. Some are able to remove fraction of several contaminants, while others excel at removing specific type of impurities down to a very low level.

Rationale

Water Purification technology was originally started to improve the aesthetic properties of drinking water considering also its other usage. However, outbreaks of waterborne disease due to poor drinking water quality still occur today even when treatment is in place. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), lead in drinking water contributes to 480,000 cases of learning disorders in children each year in the United States alone.

This explains that Water Purification must be improved and take place using new brands of technology that will ensure the decontamination of waters. Supplemental microbial water treatment devices can provide consumers with another barrier of protection just prior to consumption. However, Municipal water treatment facilities cannot always control the outbreak of dangerous bacterial contaminants. Somehow, one way to ensure pure, contaminant-free drinking water is through the use of a point-of-use filtration system. From this process, removal of impurities follows certain stages: Sediment filter, activated carbon filter, reverse osmosis member then to another activated carbon filter and finally to the ultraviolet lamp. Technology tries to improve this process to achieve a 100% germ free drinking water. This Project pushes a new technology to be used in water purification in able to meet all the circumstances and to provide a clean, healthy drinking water which is essential to mans mental and physical development. Other than that, it will also benefit other area which needs contaminant-free water supplies.
