Good .ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for the opportunity given to us. I am . and I am representing group delivering the topic on agricultural development in dealing with food crisis Next. Today weI am going to discuss about the food crisis that threatens Indonesias food security and the initiatives that we have been carrying out to tackle the issue. Next Due to the time constraint, we limit my talk into two main ideas, which are what causes food crises and what development programs to overcome food crisis in Indonesia Next Lets take a look at the causes of food crisis. General speaking, there are five driving factors of food crisis, First is natural disaster, second one is food demand increase, the third is the rise of food prices, the next one is climate change and drought, and the last but not the least is land conversion. Next. Regarding to Indonesian case. Indonesia is predicted to face food crisis 2017. This means 3 years from now. The crisis especially will hit 150 out of 480 cities/regencies in the country. The prediction is underlied by the fact that the nations ability to fulfill domestic food demand is decreasing. It is showed by the shortage of soybean in early 2008, food import increases, and also the increased beef meat price. Next. To tackle the food crisis, the government has been carrying out some development program. First is increasing food security The second program is developing agribusiness. And the third program is increasing farmers prosperity

Next.. To improve the development initiatives in dealing with food crisis, we would like to recommend some strategies, namely: Formulating pronounced agricultural policies Minimizing and suspending the conversion of prolific agricultural land as well as conducting land reform Utilizing state owned-vacant land for productive agricultural practices Increasing farmers value exchange Developing community based agribusiness at rural level Improving appropriate agricultural technology

That is all our presentation. But before we hand over the floor to the moderator, I would like to quote the UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon with regard to food crisis issue. He said that tackling the root causes of drought and food insecurity requires a long term national approach from national authorities and from donors. Thank you for your attention.
