NAME: Generic: etoposides DRUG ACTION: Mechanism of Action: Damages DNA before mitosis (cycle-dependent and phasespecific). Death of rapidly replicating cells, particularly malignant ones. SIDE EFFECT: Nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, anorexia, unusual tiredness or, weakness, pale skin, fainting, dizziness, hair loss, pain, burning, or tingling in the hands or feet. CONTRAINDICATION: Contraindicated in: Hypersensitivity; OB, Lactation: Pregnancy and Lactation; Known intolerance to benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 80, polyethylene. NSG. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Check for doctors order. R: To be assure that you are giving the right medication and dose to the right patient. 2. Verify the patient and explain the action of the drug. R: To check the right patient and so that the patient will be aware by explaining the action of the drug. 3. Observe for 10 rights in preparing and administering of drug. R: To prevent error. 4. Stay on the patient side and observe for any untoward effects. R: For immediate nursing care. 5. Perform hand washing before giving the medication. R: To prevent transmission of microorganism. 6.
