Background
My full name is Fabio Edgar Gomes Freitas born 3rd June 1980 in Funchal, Madeira Island. Moved to South Africa with my parents at a very young age of 5. Im from a lovely family where my father is a businessman, mother now a housewife and 2 brothers. During my growing up my father taught me about business, which made me at a young age, work in his businesses to gain experience and knowledge of this sector. At the age of 20, after I completed my South African qualifications equivalent to GCSE (A*-C) and AS/A levels, I started my studies in IT and graduated at the end of 2001 (age 21) from Damelin. In the first quarter of 2002 I started my first job as a PC Engineer at Technology Corporate Management (TCM) that works with IBM. Due to my excellence in my role as a PC Engineer I was offered to have a satellite branch within 4 month. At the time I offered my services to one of the biggest companies in South Africa i.e. Standard Bank, First National Bank, Medi-clinic, Corobrik, Tibbett and Britten, Kineses Logistics and Mapseta. Towards the end of 2004 I was offered an opportunity by Vuselela FET College to become a lecturer in Business Studies and IT. This was a new challenge and a new career that with lots of thinking I decided to accept the offer and resign from TCM. During my first year of being a lecturer I decided to get involved with the Roman Catholic Church and introduce a plan to alleviate poverty by teaching computer skills to those less privileged to help them get into work. After the first year at Vuselela FET College I was promoted as a Senior Lecturer. I found that my passion lies in education by teaching, supporting and transforming young people and adults to become better knowledgeable professional people in their career. There is nothing better than seeing the look of accomplishment in learners eyes when they tackle something they d never done before, I cant imagine a better career. Throughout my 6 years at Vuselela FET College I developed myself with training and qualifications to gain necessary skills for my teaching career and myself. At the end of 2010 I moved to United Kingdom to pursue with my career in delivering quality education and training.

Skills
Personal skills Curriculum planning: Always had a yearly planner that I set up for the year and weekly with days of specific lessons or assessment. Educational environment: My class was always decorated with important information of the subjects taught. A way to keep learners reminded of important information. Classroom management: I always kept an exciting learning environment during a lesson that kept learners focused and interested. In class I always had referral, warning and final warning forms ready to dish out if any student would misbehave after a verbal warning. I always took problematic learners to the next level and where parents would get involved. My learners sat in class according to the class register. Like that they sit away from friends and give their attention to me. Students who achieved good results would be rewarded with a chocolate with a Well Done card for their achievements. I always had the class marks on the notice boards for students to see their progression. One way I dealt with learners littering in the class was by keeping them in after school until they throw all the litter into the designated bins. Learners would tuck their chairs neatly under the table when class was over. Communication: Always had a professional way of talking to learners making sure they understand what is being said. When giving a lesson I talk clearly and change my tones in order not to bore the learners. This technique of communication approach keeps learners attentive and interested. Having a bit of humor integrated into important parts of the lesson is a vital and this I always do so that learners remember that incident and part of the lesson. Organisation: I made sure that my classroom was always neat and tidy ready for the next class to attend. I had a subject file and a teacher file. The subject file would have everything about the subject i.e. yearly planner, weekly planner, curriculum, assessment such as test, assignments and practicals, subject memorandums, subject official letters etc and the teacher file would have weekly planner, lesson notes, student results, class register etc. Learners evidence would be kept in a learner file in a locked cabinet that only I had the keys for. Important notice would be pinned onto the notice board. Any documents even tests that needed to be signed would be placed on designated paper trays. I used the paper trays for documents that needed attention. Time management: One way that I deal with deadlines is by prioritizing my important work that needs attention first. Tasks that needs to be completed within a few days will be completed the day before the deadline. Tasks that needs to be completed before the end of the day is classified as urgent tasks and be completed asap. When I create lessons for a class I make sure that it covers the amount of time it needs with class questions in between. If class questions has to influence my lesson then I will summarize the lesson with the important information so that students dont miss out on valuable information. Planning, organizing and prioritizing is a technique I use to deal with time management. Teaching methodologies: In class I always used a variety of methods to present my lessons. The methods used are - Colored board markers on white board - Colored markers on flip chart on metallic tripod stand - Lessons projected onto a white projector curtain
