Class look under your armchair, and see if there is a piece of heart pasted. Then read the question and answer.

Understand class? QUESTIONS:

Yes Ma'am ANSWERS: Modals

are helping verbs used to express speacial meanings.

use modals in a sentence by sking permission. use modals in a sentence by expressing ability. use modals in a sentence by expressing probability or possibilty.

May I borrow your pen?

The Filipinos can make their country great.

They might have postponed the meeting.

use modals in a sentence by expressing obligation or command.

We should conserve energy.

Alright, remember class that modals or modal auxiliaries are helping verbs with different uses, it can also be used to express on opportunity that was not exploited an obligation that was not performed, a wish or prayer or in giving a suggestion. Is it clear class? Is there any question regarding our past lesson? Yes Ma'am. None Ma'am.

B. Motivation Class if you have the chance to make a wish what will it be and why? Lets hear from you Marian. If I had given a chance to make a wish to the Lord, I will wish to have LOVE and UNITY in every country. Wow! How about you Jonathan? If I had given a chance to make a wish, I wish that I could explore the universe. I wish to become a famous singer and dancer as well.

What else? Riena Rose.

Okay, class I have here a dialogue of a mother and her son. Lets try to find out what is the son's wish to his mother.

Mother: Happy birthday, son! I wish Dad were here to greet you, too.

Son: Thanks, Mom. If I were Superman, I would fly to the US to bring Dad here. Mother: If we had a private airplane, we could visit him in New York. Son: I'm still happy youre here.

Kindly read Maylen and Mark Jay

Maylen and Mark Jay will read the dialogue.

Next pair, kindly read Je-an and Drandreb. Another pair, please read Jennifer and Samsun. Alright class, did you understand the dialogue? So what is it all about?

Je-an and Drandreb will read the dialogue. Jennifer and Samsun will read the dialogue. Yes Ma'am. It is all about the wish of a mother and her son for his birthday.

Precisely! And what is the mother's wish? Yes, Aiza. What else class? Can you cite the statement in the dialogue that expresses the wish of the mother. Okay, How about the son's wish? What is it?

The mother's wish that her husband were here to greet their son. The mother also wish to had a private airplane.

If we had a private airplane, we could visit him in New York. The son's wish to be a Superman and fly to the US to bring his Dad in his birthday.

Can you state the part in the dialogue that tells the son's wish? If I were Superman, I would fly to the US to bring Dad here. Alright! It only shows that sometimes in our life,

we yearn or wish for something that is impossible to happen. Just like the mother's wish and son's wish. The boy cannot be a superman and the mother cannot afford a private airplane. C. Lesson Proper Class what we had a while ago has a connection with our new lesson this afternoon which is about Present Conditional Sentences The present conditional sentences are compose of two parts: tha If-Clause and the Result-Clause. The If-clause it introduces if which pertains to untrue or contrary to the fact. Class when we say UNTRUE, what does it mean? untrue meaning not true.

Thats right! Not true or opposite to the reality of a certain condition or situation, a false or no existence. That is the structure of If-clause. And the second part of present conditional sentences is called the result-clause that deals the probable result. Class what is meant by PROBABLE? Correct! The possible result! So, in presnt conditional sentences we have the if-clause or the unreal situatin followed by result-clause or probabble result for an imaginary condition or situation. From the dialogue that we have discussed earlier, we have here the two sentences. Kindly read Lorena. The possibility

If we had a private airplane, we could visit him in New York. If I were Superman, I would fly to yhe US to bring Dad here.

Okay, let us try to find out and underline the IFclause in the first sentence.

If we had a private airplane, we could visit him in

New York.

Good! In second sentence?

If I were Superman,I would fly to yhe US to bring Dad here.

Very good! Ofcourse RESULT-clause which is the probable result. In the first sentence underline it twice. If we had a private airplane, we could visit him in New York. In second sentence, who wants to try? Immanuel. If I were Superman,I would fly to the US to bring Dad here.

Class, if-clause and result-clause have also a pattern that we need to follow.Let us identify first The pattern of the if-clause. Heres the pattern: if + subject+ past form of a verb. So, in our two examples, let us try to find out what is the subject and past form of a verb. If we had a private airplane Lets have the first example. Class what is the subject in If-Clause? Good! And what is the past form of a verb? The word we The word had

Very good! In second example what is the subject?

If I were Superman The word I

How about the past form of a verb?

The word were

Okay! So lets proceed to the structure or pattern of Result-clause. First, the subject+ any modals+ present form of a verb.

Now lets go back again to our two examples and let us try to find out the structure of result-clause. In the first sentence. Again, in result-clause what is the subject? The modal use? What about the presnt form of a verb? Good! For the second sentence in the result-clause what is the subject? The modals? And the presnt form of a verb? Thats right! Remember class that wishing is always unreal condition and it belongs to present conditional sentences. Is it clear class? Is there any question? If there is none, lets have a short activity. Yes Maam. None Maam. we could visit him in New York. The word we The word could The wordvisit I would fly to the US to bring Dad here. The wordI The word would The word fly

D. Application The three pictures will be presented in the class, the beggar, unborn babies and retarded child. Students will be ask to give their opinion or wish based on the picture presented.

E. Generalization

Class when do we use present conditional sentences?

We use present conditional sentences when we express a condition that is known to be false.

In If-Clause what is the pattern?

In if-clause pattern it consist the if+ the subject+ the past form of a verb In result-clause pattern it consist the subject+ the use of modals and the present form of a verb.

How about the result-clause?

Precisely! And class why we need to understand the usage of presnt conditional sentences?

We need to understand the usage of present conditional sentences to determine a certain situation if it is expresses a true or false.

Alright! Is there any question?

None Maam.

If there is none, lets do our exercises.
