THE KEYS TO PARABLE INTERPRETATION IN THE BIBLE

THE KEYS OF INTERPRETATION

(Mat 13:18) Hear ye therefore the parable [a similitude, i.e. fictitious narrative (of common life conveying a moral)] of the sower [to scatter /// to draw out] [Let there be light (Gen 1:3) drawn out of darkness]. 1. (Gen 1:1-3) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face [anthropromorphism] of the deep [Heb: an abyss (as a surging mass of water)]. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 2. without form = Heb: to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), i.e. desert; fig. a worthless thing; adv. in vain: confusion, empty place, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness. 3. void = Heb: (empty); a vacuity, i.e. (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin. 4. darkness = Heb: dark; fig. misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness: night. 5. light = Heb: illumination or luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.): bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun. 6. (Mark 4:13,14) And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? The sower soweth the word [Gk: logos]. 7. (Luke 8:11) Now the parable is this: The seed [Gk: a scattering (of seed)] is the word [Gk: logos] of God.

THE WAY SIDE

(Mat 13:19) When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one [the fowls Mat 13:4; the fowls of the air Mark 4:4; Luke 8:5], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart [Gk: the heart, i.e. (fig.) the thoughts or feelings (the mind)]. This is he which received seed by the way [Gk: road]

side. 8. (Eph 2:2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course [path, pattern] of this world [be not conformed to this world Rom 12:2], according to the prince of the power of the air [the god of this world 2 Cor 4:4], the spirit [of Satan] that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 9. (Mark 4:15) And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. 10. (Luke 8:12) Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

STONY PLACES
(Mat 13:20,21) But he that received the seed into stony [Gk: rocky] places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended [Gk: ("scandalized"); entrapped, i.e. tripped up (fig. stumble or enticed to sin, apostasy or displeasure): (make to) offend]. 11. Commentary: Jesus Christ is referred to as a root of Jesse (Isa 11:10; Rom 15:12); the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David (Rev 5:5); I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star (Rev 22:16). Jesus Christ is the seed; the Holy Spirit is the water. The seed of Jesus Christ, who is the seed of God and the Word of God (John 1:14), that is sown into the heart (the mind). When He (the seed) is accompanied by the water of the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:26), He will take eternal root in the heart. However, there can be no root taken unless the Word is accompanied by the interpretating Holy Spirit. Thus, without the accompanying Holy Spirit, the Word of God (Jesus Christ) is foolishness (1 Cor 2:14) unto the natural man. Many men can and have read the logos Word as it is printed in the Bible, but without the interpretation of that logos (seed) Word into the rhema (fruit) Word by the indwelling Holy Spirit, it remains forever foolishness; these hearers of the word have no root, become offended, and fall away (Luke 8:13). 12. (Mark 4:16,17) And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. 13. (Luke 8:13) They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation [Gk: testing] fall away [Gk: to remove, i.e. instigate to revolt.; to desist, desert, etc.: depart, withdraw self].

AMONG THE THORNS

(Mat 13:22) He also that received seed among [in the presence of] the thorns is he that

heareth the word; and the care [Gk: distractions] of this world, and the deceitfulness [Gk: delusion] of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 14. thorn = Dict: 1. a sharp excrescence (growth) on a plant, exp. a sharp-pointed aborted branch; a prickle. 2. something that wounds, or causes discomfort or annoyance. 15. choke = Gk: to strangle completely, i.e. to drown, or to crowd /// & /// denoting union; i.e. by association, companionship /// & /// to wheeze, i.e. to throttle or strangle (drown): take by the throat. 16. (Mark 4:18,19) And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts [Gk: a longing (espec. for what is forbidden)] of other things entering in [either by invitation, or by penetration (rape)], choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful [Gk: barren: without fruit]. 17. (Luke 8:14) And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection [Gk: to completion (maturity)].

THE GOOD GROUND

(Mat 13:23) But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word [Gk: logos], and understandeth it; which also [internally] beareth [Gk: to be fertile] fruit [rhema], and bringeth forth [an external sowing forth of the fruit as in teaching or preaching], some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 18. (Mark 4:20) And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it [Gk: delight in it], and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred. 19. (Luke 8:15) But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. 20. (Gen 2:15) And the LORD God took the man [Adam], and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it [Heb: to work (in any sense); by impl. to serve, till /// worship] and to keep it [Heb: to hedge about, guard, protect: watch (man)]. NOT FRUIT (zero), FRUIT (30 fold), MORE FRUIT (60 fold), MUCH FRUIT (100 fold) (John 15:1-8) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman [Gk: farmer]. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit [i.e., the way side, stony places, among the thorns] he taketh away [to where?]: and every branch that beareth fruit [the good ground], he purgeth it [Gk: to cleanse, i.e. (spec.) to prune], that it may bring forth more fruit [30 fold, 60 fold, 100 fold]. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered

[Gk: desiccated; by impl. shriveled: dried up] [i.e., no Holy Spirit]; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples [Gk: learners, pupils /// understand].
