What You Need Orange DK yarn Brown DK yarn White DK yarn Green DK yarn 4mm crochet hook Polyester toy stuffng 1 pair 8mm safety eyes or embroidery thread if giving to a baby. Abbreviations Sc = single crochet inc = increase by working 2sc into same st sts =stitches sc dec = single decrease. Ch = chain hdc = half double crochet hdc2tog = decrease by working a half double crochet into next 2 sts and joining them with the last yarn over. Head and Body Rnd 1. With 4mm hook and Orange yarn, sc 6 into a magic ring. Rnd 2. Inc. into each stitch around (12sts) Rnd 3. (sc, inc) around (18sts) Rnd 4. (Sc 2 sts, inc) around (24sts) Rnd 5. Fit safety eyes (if using) to round 8; 5 sts apart. If using embroidery thread; make a small circle of 6 chain sts for each eye. Change to white yarn

Stuff feet and legs firmly. Sew to bottom of body, ensuring that the tops of the legs cover the pointy corners of the body and meet in the middle. Belly Straps (make 2) Row 1. ch 20 sts, turn Row 2. sc into 2nd ch, sc into each ch across (19sts) Row 3. sc across (19sts)

Rnd 15. (Sc 2, inc) around to last stitch, sc.1 (21sts) Slip into next stitch, fasten off. Sew arms to sides of the body ensuring that the belly straps go over the arms and do not get caught in the sewing. Hair Rnd 1. With Green yarn, sc 6 into magic ring Rnd 2. Inc. into each stitch around (12sts) Rnd 3. (sc, inc) around (18sts)

Leaving a long yarn to make up, break yarn and sew to tops of trousers ensuring that the 2 straps cross at the front and the back of the body. Hands and Arms (Make 2) Rnd 1. With 4mm hook and White yarn, sc 6 into a magic ring. Rnd 2. Inc. into each stitch around (12sts) Rnd 3. (sc, inc) around (18sts) Rnd 4 5. Sc around Rnd 6. Sc 8, (sc,hdc,hdc,sc) into the front loop of next stitch; this will be the thumb, sc 9. Rnd 7. (sc 1, dec,) around to the end of the row, ignoring the thumb working instead into the remaining back loop of the stitch the thumb was worked into. (12 sts) Rnd 8. Sc around. Change to brown yarn

Rnd 4. (Sc 2 sts, inc) around (24ts) Rnd 5. (sc 3 sts, inc) around (30sts) Rnd 6. (sc 4 sts, inc) around (36sts) Rnd 7. Sc 2 sts, inc, (sc 5sts, inc)around to last 3sts; sc 3 (42sts) Rnd 8 10 Sc around Now working in rows; ch1, turn Row 11 12. sc into next 30 sts, ch1, turn. Row 13. working in back loops only for this row, (that's the outside of the hairpiece) you may want to mark the row as you will need the front/inside loops later, sc into 30 sts, ch1 turn. Row 14 19. sc across, ch 1, turn (30sts) Fold straight piece of work to the inside and line up present row with the free front loops of row 13. Row 20. Sc through both thickness' Finish off.

Rnd 9 13. Sc around (12sts) Rnd 14. (Sc 2, inc) around (16sts) The straight piece of hair will now resemble a sausage with open ends. Stuff lightly. You will now make end caps to sew to each of these open ends.

End caps (Make 2) Rnd 1. With green yarn, sc 6 into magic ring. Slip stitch into next stitch and fasten off leaving a long end. Sew each end cap to the open end of the hair sausage. Fringe Rejoin yarn to unworked sts in row 10. Row 1. Sc into next 12 sts across, ch1, turn

Sew the quiff to the front of the head so that the point of the quiff points backwards. Pom Poms (make 2) You can either sew small shop-bought pompoms onto the shoes or you can make them as follows; Rnd 1. With brown yarn and 4mm hook, sc 6 sts into a magic ring. Rnd 2. inc into each stitch around (12 sts)

Row 2. Slip stitch into next 2 sts, sc 8, (leaving next 2 sts unworked) ch 1, turn. Row 3. Sc 8. fasten off. Weave in ends.

Rnd 3. sc around Rnd 4. sc dec around (6sts)

Before adding hair to head, take a length of white yarn and make two straight stitches for eyebrows and two more for mouth. You can start and finish this yarn at the top of the head as this will be hidden by the hairpiece. Sew hair piece to head all around; ensure hair-sausage remains free at back and is only sewn down along the joining row. (row 13) Hair Quiff Rnd 1. With 4mm hook and Green yarn, sc 6 into a magic ring Rnd 2. Sc around (6sts) Rnd 3. Sc, inc, inc, sc dec, sc (7sts) Rnd 4. Sc, 3inc, sc dec, sc, (9sts) Rnd 5. sc 2 sts, (inc) 3 times, sc dec, sc 2 sts (11sts) Rnd 6. Sc 5 sts, inc, sc 5 sts (12sts) Slip stitch into next sc, finish off leaving a long end.

Stuff lightly and sew these pom poms to the tops of the shoes of your Oompa-Loompa He is now complete. Give him to someone to cheer them up or use him to keep your own candy stash safe. Don't forget to pay him in cocoa beans.
