Greetings in the

name

of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christmas here

appears quite different with the temperature around

for something reasonable enough to buy. The streets

80 degrees.

But

the same hustle and bustle is found, some buying and some just looking
here were decorated by Thanksgiving and much of the

decoration will remain until carnival time (Feb. 23-28). We saw only three or four nativity scenes. Most of the decorations downtown
were for the carnival.

With Christmas past the New Year exploded at our feet. Openings have come in two areas. Ibura and Torre have opened up and along with
the worship service each Sunday morning on our front terrace our ac tivities for the Lord have increased considerably. Our first service

in

IXura was attended by about 40 besides our family and helpers, and

altogether made a total of fifty people. We started out with about 30 and by the time we had sung several choruses the number had risen to M-0 and before I completed my sermon the number had risen to 50, We are waiting for next Sunday with expectations. Where do we meet? In front of two homes and with the rainy season ahead, we are hoping and
praying for a more secure location. The homes in this area (500 now completed and 1,000 yet to be completed) are all government biiilt.

They are of two general types and are purchased for about $41 dovm and

$12 a month for 15 years. The houses are not divided with the except ion of the kitchen and bathroom. The people then can divide as they
want. For most it is far more and better than they have had before.

For many,

however,

the $41 was difficult to have ready, even after

meeting area in Ibura in order to have

waiting three or four years.

We are trying to secure a

a place to meet.

This may require some construction in the next few

months, I have talked with the president of the corporation respon sible for the houses and today I will be talking with the city govern ment, Please be praying about this. Torre also has chances of growth in the near future. Both these works have been made possible through the contacts given us by Mark and Phyllis Pinnick who were here with USAID, Now with the language

progressing sufficiently for us to begin talking on various subjects

of the Bible we are making more contacts that can really count and we

hope to make progress in all three areas.

Please be praying for this,

Franscisco, who was a driver for Mark part of the time he was here, has now moved to Ibura. He has recently received a three year safe driving award. Here that is quite an accomplishment. His move to Ib ura has helped to open this area.

Please be praying for added workers for this area.

Editors note:

Bro. John reports there were two baptisms recently. This seems to indicate a general opening up of the work

All went well in Ibura with the flower given and the people home be fore the rain shower. We then had about 35 potted flowers left which we thought would be enough. she had helped in moving a storage box. After more rest and feeling better the pain started again and this time with a high fever. After tests were made it was determined that she had a kidney infection. The doctor prescribed a strong antibiotic and she spent about ten days more in bed. She is now doing better and will be able to go with me and help with music. We recently made the trip to Ibura and Torre by hitchhiking, bus, taxi and walking. This was a new experience for us. Joyce, Mark and I walked and car ried the accordian, song bookg, chorus books, flannelgraph boards, etc. for three blocks where we were pic ked up by another missionary who dropped us off at our bus stop. We took the bus on a side trip to another villa. We had to go around a couple of cows lying in the middle of the road. At the end of the bus line we crawled into a Jeep and make it on to our destination. The return trip was also eventful when our bus suffered a broken fan belt leaving us stran ded. We were finally able to take a taxi on home.
The reason for all this? - our car had broken down

and it took eleven days to get it repaired.

Three weeks ago we started using filmstrips with

the Francisco family. Each week we have had a few neighbor children and we are hoping that this will grow. WE had stopped meeting in Ibura, due to the

rainy season and the problems created by the home where we had been meeting. We have switched this
meeting to a Friday night. Our crowds on Wednesday night in Torre have been running consistently between 55 and 70. This is to see the filmstrips. The projector was purchased from
funds sent by the Northwest Christian Church in Mt.

Our meeting on Sunday night in Torre is well at tended but not as well as we would like. This past

Wednesday I began a Bible Study with Joao Pontes (translated John Bridges). John is a young man who
works in a downtown department store and has been in terested for some time but he is taking night classes. Finally I was able to make arrangements to use the Evangelistic Book Store during the two hour noon per(continued on next page)

Within the next two or three months I will be

meeting with John Rodgers in Forteliza for between a week and two weeks of meetings. Then John will be
