COURSE DESCRIPTION This course will cover an introduction to financial management. It will also focus on what business firms should do to achieve their financial goals, which are to optimize the owners wealth. Specifically the course will include discussion on money and its importance in business transactions, time value of money, importance of credit, importance and the role of banks and other financial institutions, finance functions in operating the environment of finance. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the students are expected to: 1. Identify business finance requirements and activities of the different types of business; 2. Appreciate the importance and the proper management of capital as a lubricant in running a business; 3. Develop the skills in managing a business geared towards maximizing profit; 4. Acquire necessary skills and knowledge as future financial managers; and 5. COURSE PROJECT: Prelim: Students in a group of five will have to gather or make a collection of old and new currencies that circulated the Philippines. The collection must be presented in the most creative way. Midterm: Students in the same grouping as prelims will make a collection of credit instruments used in the Philippines. The instruments should be labeled to determine if they know how to identify an instrument when they see one.
