The objective for this course will be for eleventh and twelfth grade students of Christian Community School to enhance their understanding of the biblical text and how it is properly applied to practical morality. This objective will be met through a variety of means. We will be reading and reflecting upon a variety of biblical as well as extra-biblical texts. Students will be asked to think critically about the texts we read as well as the lectures/discussions occurring during the class period. Although this is not one of the core classes each student will be asked to pay attention, work hard and apply themselves to all the work performed during this school year. Students will be required to bring their Bibles to class as well as any other required readings as these will guide the lectures. They will receive grades for all activities: tests, quizzes, homework, essays and participation. Although this course is meant to provide students of the Bible with a better understanding of the biblical text this course will be structured in order to allow students the opportunity to grow in their faith and pursue that faith in a more devotional manner. I hope that each student will learn healthy ways to integrate their faith with a scholarly understanding and love of the Bible that in turn increases that faith. 2 Timothy 3:14-17 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
