CIS 442 Summer 2013 Final Project Worth: 20 points Important note: Strict deadline for submissions: July 30th, 2013. You need to reserve a time with me or the designated T.A. Discussions will be on the 30th and the 31st of July. Mall ABC has the blueprint shown on the last page (a .png file is attached as well so you browse a better view of the different parts of this mall). You are asked to develop their new network that expands the availability of computers and increases access. The goal is to facilitate the use of such technology as best as possible with the least cost. The proposed project is defined by the following features: 1. Installing a wireless network at the mall (WLAN) for a fee 2. Adding additional computers to the building by purchasing the necessary devices 3. Add one laptop for every shop owner and his support staff You as a networking solutions company, intend to extend the network services that cover all the spaces in this mall to include all the normal daily use, monitoring (if any), and communication with the central office on the border of the city. In the new design, the trend is to have security cameras for every shop (depending on its size). You can assume 1 is good for every 50m. The mall has only one floor, and your job is to handle the wired and wireless networks for all the stores, internet caf, corridors and rest areas near the fountains. The scale on the attached image is 1cm:75m
As the figure shows, there are regular shops and there are huts (small business with reserved space in the corridors). Some of the shops are small and some other are large in space. There are lots of shops and the minimum number of wired IPs that you need to reserve for this structure is 220 IPs but must also be expandable to hold extra ones. It must also handle enough number of wireless users who might be using their laptops when coming to the mall. The region marked as A is the support staff. They have 20 computers and monitor all the shops in this mall in terms of internet service and computer repair, in addition to providing repair service to people. Out of these computers they have 4 different servers that provide different services, and they provide a way of backing up their clients data (send and receive) to/from their remote main office through lease lines. Region B is an internet caf with 50 computers. In addition to providing internet connection, they also provide gaming, printing and design. Sears store requires 20 wired connections for its cashiers and other usages. Macys requires 30 IPs for its wired connections. You can assume that the rest of IPs are randomly distributed among all the stores. You are to decide the locations for the wireless access points but the internet should be accessible from anywhere in the mall. Use an appropriate IP class and justify the allocation of IP addresses to all kinds of PCs, servers, and other devices statistically or using DHCP. Your design should support at least 50% growth (wired and wireless) over the next 4 years.

Requirements: 1. Design a network by using a recommended hierarchical model with suitable topologies. The new network needs to be scalable, available, high performance and manageable. 2. Produce a logical diagram that includes: a. Routers, switches and wireless access point names b. Router interface details c. Network addresses d. Link Speeds 3. Choose and decide the number of appropriate routers, switches and wireless access point for the task. All networking devices must have IP addresses. Knowing that the company currently reserved public class C network address 210.2.1.0/24 for internal address and subnet 210.15.10.0/30 for the connection to the Internet router. This should be modified if you think your design needs it by suggesting a suitable alternative. They dont have a wired nor wireless networks installed yet, waiting for your design suggestions. 4. Expect 100% growth of current IP requirements when determining size of subnets. 5. Switches in the main branch building will need to be connected in a loop, so that if one switch fails an alternative path is used. 6. The network needs to be secured especially if we are talking about wireless. Only legitimate users are allowed to access the network. 7. Discussion on testing and verification strategies. Document your testing and verification from routers and switches in the appendix. 8. Recommendations for future network upgrades. Deliverables: A well illustrated formal written report. All configurations are to be recorded in the appendix. We will test your logical design, physical design and simulation that proves that your network is fully connected between all parts of this mall. Do not forget that we will test your LAN and WAN technologies in your network architecture of choice. In your discussion, you need to justify your network design and cover all requirements specified above. Demonstrate that you have done some background research using the tutorials from packet tracer 5.1 (or higher) and extra external ones as needed. A demonstration to test the connectivity of your network in at the specified deadline using Packet Tracer 5.1 (or higher). - A grade of zero will be given for those who do not discuss their final project regardless of the work they give us! - Any form of plagiarism will be reported and dealt with according to the university honor code.
