• During my involvement with my former employer, I was afforded an opportunity to represent
my company in the bargaining council for contract cleaning industry where I developed the
following competencies:
• Ability to communicate at all levels.
• Sound negotiation and problem solving skills.
• Conflict resolution and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of labour related legislative framework. I.e. Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of
Employment Act, Employment Equity Act and Collective Agreements.
• I also had a great opportunity to be part of the xiii International Aids Conference that offered a
great deal of information and training about HIV/AIDS and its implications. As a result of this
workshop my colleagues and I organized workshops to facilitate ignorance and discriminatory
problems faced with people living with this epidemic in our community. The aim of these
workshops was to integrate the involvement of infected and affected people in the community
to strengthen their response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
