General/passenger information
After Rome, Milan is the next-most-populated city in Italy, known for fashion firms and business fairs. More than 60 percent of its very active population is employed in the services sector, characterized by busy banks and finance and insurance companies. Despite its modern appearance, Milan has a heritage of artistic treasures and famous monuments. Prominent is the Duomo, a magnificent gothic cathedral famed for its spires, and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, home of Leonardo Da Vincis Last Supper. Visit the downtown area with the Duomo Cathedral, the Castello Sforzesco, and the Teatro alla Scala, possibly the most famous opera house in the world. In one hours time from Milan, you can reach the wonderful Swiss-lakes region, surrounded by the Alps. Enjoy your evenings visiting the jazz and blues clubs on the old ship canals, or the many discos and pubs for different types of music and refreshments.
