Foreword
ISO !the International Organitarion for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national standards bodies 1150 member bodies). The work of preparing International
Srandards ts normally carried out through ISO technical comminees. Each member
body interested in a subject for which a technical commitree has been established has
the rignt to be represented on that eemminee. International organizations. govem-
memal and nor...govemmental, in liaison whh ISO. also take part in the work.
Craft lntemalional Standards adopted by the technical comminees are circulated to
the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as tmemational Standards by
lhe ISO Council. They are approved in accordance with ISO procedures requinng at
least 75 % aooroval by the member bodies voting.
lmernanonal Standard ISO 5199 was prepared by Technical Comminee ISOITC 115,
Pumps.
Users shou.td not! that an lraemational Standards unCergo revision from time to tim-e
and that any reference made heretn to any other International Standard implies its
latest edition. unless otherwise stated.

Technical specifications for centrifugal pumps - Class 11
0 Introduction
This International Standaro is the first of a senes dealing with
:ecllniclf speeifiearions for centrifugal pumps; they correpond
to three classes of technical s;>eOfications. I. 11 and 111. of which
class I has the most severe_. and class Ill tha least severe re--
quirements.
Where a decision mav ;7 requred by the purchaser, or agree-
moot IS reQuired between purchaser and manufacturer. the
relevant text Is printed fn bold tYPface and llstod in annex H.
1 Scope and field of application
1.1 This International Standard covers class 11 reQuirements
101 centrifugal pumps of oack pull-out conSIIUcton as used
in the chemical and petrochemical ndustries.
However the Standard. or individual clauses of it. can be
phed in other industrii!S. io; general industrial use or to pump
designs other than of back puU-out construcnon.
1.2 Pumps as spec1iiod in ISO 2858 are typical olthost con
formno to th1s International Standard.
1.3 This International Standard includes design features con
eemed whh instatration. maintenance and safetY for these
oumps, inclvd1ng baseplate couplings and au.:iliary piping but
excluding the driver.
1.4 Where apolication of :nis l nternanonal Standard has
been caliod for
aJ and a spec:fic des";n feature is reauired. alternative
designs which meet tne imem of the Standard may be
otfeted, prov1ded that :he alte-rnative is desc-ribed tn derail;
bJ pumps not comolying with all requirements of the St:tn
dard mav oe offered far cons1derauon provided that atl
devlarJons are srat!d.
1.5 Whenever the documents 1nclude contradicting toctlnital
requirements, they shall aoply in f\JIIowing sequence:

Terms in this International Standard which are not self-
explamuory are defined as follows.
3.1 operating conditions: All parameters (for exam-ple,
t'oerating temperature, operating pressure) determined by a
{_ "!n application and pumped Hquid. These parameters will

specified ope-rating conditions wi th the impeller supplied as
timited by cavitation. heating, vibration, noise. shaft deflection
