IB Learner Awards
On June 12th, the staff of ISB recoginzed sixty students for demonstrating
excellence in an area of learning emphasized by IB. Staff selected one student from each
grade and students were honored by Mrs. Baumgardner and Mr. Duran. We are pleaed to
share the names of these students with you.
Inquirers have the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research, and they
show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning, and their love of learning
will be sustained throughout their lives. Outstanding IB Learners in the Category of
Inquiry are: Kyle Boyer (6); Tal Collins (7); MacKenzie Klapp (8); Godfrey Yeung (9);
Anna Stutz (10); & Alex McFadden (11).
Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to
make sound decisions and to solve complex problems. Outstanding IB Learners in the
Category of Thinking are: Rachel Levelle (6); Nathan Potter (7); Mehtab Sal (8); Robin
Ye (9); Lydia Simmons (10); & Rishi Garg (11).
Communicators receive and express ideas and information confidently in more
than one language, including the language of mathematical symbols. Outstanding IB
Learners in the Category of Communication are: Prahal Mallela (6); Courtney Hauck
(7); Cole Ottum (8); Aven-itza De Primavera (9); Chase Person (10); & Elizabeth Fortner
(11).
Risk Takers approach unfamiliar situations without anxiety and have the
confidence and independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas, and strategies. They
are courageous and articulate in defending those things in which they believe.
Outstanding IB Learners in the Category of Risk Taking are: Seth Greenberg (6);
Allison Johnson (7); Olivia Hay (8); Anne Kaufman (9); Serena Tan (10); & Anna
Velante (11).
Knowledgeable students have spent time in school exploring themes which have
global relevance and importance. In doing so, they have acquired a critical mass of
significant knowledge. Outstanding IB Learners in the Category of Knowledge are:
Abhijit Mudigonda (6); Shailaja Neelam (7); Molly Field (8); Emma Deloughery (9);
Elyssa Laflamme (10); & Aaron Halim (11).
Principled students have a sound grasp of the principles of moral reasoning.
They have integrity, honesty, and a sense of fairness and justice. Outstanding IB Learners
in the Category of Principle are: Sydney Phu (6); Haripriya Dharmala (7); Betty Becerra
(8); Christopher Bame (9); Sang-Won Kim (10); & Leivid Gonzalez (11).
Caring students show sensitivity towards the needs and feelings of others. They
have a sense of personal commitment to action and service. Outstanding IB Learners in
the Category of Care are: Amanda Crawford (6); Brayden Desimone (7); Zsofia
McDonald (8); Kathy Ahn (9); Gemunu Amarasinghe (10); & Samantha Chan (11).
Open-Minded students respect the views, values, and traditions of other
individuals and cultures, and they are accustomed to seeking and considering a range of
points of view. Outstanding IB Learners in the Category of Open-Mindedness are:
Monika Helak (6); Jamila Godil (7); Bryony Booker (8); Allison Millar (9); Elizabeth
Fennelly (10); & Laura Barbour (11).
Well-Balanced students understand the importance of physical and mental
balance and personal well being. Outstanding IB Learners in the Category of Balance
are: Thomas Molina (6); Meg Waldo (7); Kristy Rutz (8); Megan Rice (9); Andy
Guerrero (10); & Ian Gulliver (11).
Reflective students give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and
analyze their personal strengths and weaknesses in a constructive manner. Outstanding IB
Learners in the Category of Reflection: Megan Ellertson (6); Megan Lamberger (7);
Juliana Liu (8); Beatriz Garcia Morales (9); Namitha Lukose (10); & Sherine Abusneineh
