Trio da Cano Brasileira

About us
The Trio da Cano Brasileira (Brazilian Song Trio) main repertoire is a set of songs in Portuguese language. It includes pieces originally written for voice, piano and horn and arrangements created especially to the Trio by the composer and horn player Daniel Havens, embracing a variety of rhythms and forms that make up the Brazilian music framework. The first piece originally written for horn, voice and piano by a Brazilian composer was a set of three songs, by Radames Gnatalli. It was composed in 1969 upon poems by Manuel Bandeira: Azulo, Acalanto para John Talbot and Cano. In 1977, Lindembergue Cardoso (a composer from Bahia State) extending the expressive possibilities of this ensemble bringing the contemporary music aesthetic to its repertoire wrote A Estrela, also a poem written by Bandeira. The works of these two masters were essential for the integration of this kind of ensemble to Brazilian concert music practices. From the 1980s on, several composers started to write works for horn, voice and piano. Among them, we can highlight works done by Denise Garcia, Dirty Poem (1981); In Somnis (1990), by Eli-Eri Moura; Four Poems (1997), by Marisa Rezende; Vento Serrano (2000), by Edmundo Villani-Cortes and Cames No. 1 (2000), by Sergio Vasconcellos-Correa. Therefore, the Trio da Cano Brasileira - formed by musicians of recognized competence -, aims to promote this almost unknown repertoire.
