Born in Ro Piedras, Puerto Rico and raised in the U.S., Nieves began his career while participating in Orquesta Cimarron, a New York-based group. In 1977, he teamed up with singer Hctor Lavoe and his Orchestra and joined The Conjunto Clasico. Later, Nieves decided to start his solo career in 1986, setting himself apart by singing Salsa in English. He is known for his hits such as El Amor Ms Bonito, Sonmbulo, and the English-salsa hit, I Like It Like That (1997). Present hits from the album Fabricando Fantasias include Fabricando Fantasias and Ya No Queda Nada with La India, Nicky Jam, and K-Mil. He attended Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, New York, and though he left before graduating, he was given an honorary diploma in 1994 Hector Lavoe Biography Hector LaVoe was born Hector Juan Perez, on September 30th, 1946 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. "El Cantante De Los Cantantes", as he is affectionately known, came to New York at age 17 with the dream of making it big. With no formal singing training this skinny kid from Barrio San Antonio in Ponce, caught the ears of Johnny Pacheco. Pacheco was amazed at the raw talent this young kid had. Because Pacheco already had a singer (Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez) and during those times you only needed one singer. En Nueva York: Charlie Palmieri, Willie Coln y Hctor Lavoe, Ray Barreto, Tito Puente, Richie Ray y Bobby Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Larry Harlow y Ismael Miranda, Tpica 73, Blades, Pacheco y Pete el Conde o Ismael Quintana. En Puerto Rico: Cortijo y su Combo, Gran Combo, Tommy Olivencia, Bobby Valentn, Willie Rosario, Andy Montaez, Roberto Roena y sus Apollo Sound, Frankie Ruiz, Marvin Santiago, Lalo Rodrguez o Ismael Rivera. Nueva York - Puerto Rico produjo : El 100% de los cantantes y el 70% de los msicos originales en 1971 al crearse la Fania son Boricuas. 15 integrantes eran boricuas, 3 norteamericanos, 2 dominicanos y 1 solo cubano. Los cantantes fueron Hctor Lavoe, Ismael Miranda, Pete El Conde Rodrguez, Adalberto Santiago, Bobby Cruz, Santos Coln y Cheo Feliciano. Ray Barreto en las congas, Roberto Roena en el bongo y Nicky Marrero en los timbales, en el 1er trombn Barry Rogers, Reinaldo Jorge y Willie Coln en los trombones 2 y 3. Roberto Rodrguez, Hctor Zarzuela Bomberito y Larry Spencer en las trompetas; el piano estuvo a cargo de Larry Harlow y Richie Ray, mientras que Bobby Valentn se ocup del bajo y Yomo Toro del cuatro puertorriqueo.
