1. (a) The penguin is the predator of the squid. (b) They both eat the same prey which is zooplankton. (c) There will be less sunlight for phytoplankton to make food so its population will decrease and since the zooplankton depends on the phytoplankton fro food; its population will also decrease. 2. (a) The rate of photosynthesis increases as the amount of carbon dioxide increases. However, beyond concentration of 4 units, the rate of photosynthesis does not increase, it will remain constant. (b) He could have reduced the distance between the light source and the beaker. When the distance between the light source and the beaker is shorter, the intensity of light increases thus the rate of photosynthesis also increases. 3. (a) Set-ups B, D and E. (b) He can find out which soil is better for the plant growth. 4. (a) Excessive amount of water entering the animal cell, causing it to burst while the plant cell has a cell wall to prevent the cell from bursting. (b) The salt water causes the water in the animal cell to move out of the cell. 5. (a) System A : Digestive system (b) Gas X : Oxygen (c) Respiration 6. (a) Tadpole, because animals that breathe through gills are in group A. (b) They will reach to the surface to obtain atmospheric oxygen and trap an air bubble in between its legs. 7. (a) Structural adaptation (b) The desert fox's ears are big as it helps the fox lose heat. It has a large exposed surface area. The polar bear's ear is small and prevents too much heat from being lost as there is lesser exposed surface area. 8. (a) As the ice cubes are melting, they remain zero degrees Celsius until there is no ice left. (b) Part CD of the graph shows the melted ice cubes are at room temperature. (c) Yes, the ice is melting though the temperature is at zero degree celsius. Ice melts when heat is gained. 9. (a) 39C (b) The containers are made of different materials and some are better conductor of heat than the others. (c) The amount of exposed surface area and the size of the container. 10. (a) B, D, A, C (b) No, pencil lead is a good conductor of electricity but not a good conductor of heat. Therefore, if pencil lead is C then bulb X should light up. System B : Circulatory system

Gas Y : Carbon dioxide

11. (a) The water level in the glass will rise. (b) When the air is heated, it expands and when the air cools down, it contracts. The tap water will cool the air, causing it to contract and there will be space in the glass for the water to enter. (c)

12. (a) When the mallet is released from position Am the speed of the ball is slower compared to when the mallet is released at position B. (b) Position B is higher than position A so the mallet head has more gravitational potential energy, which will be converted to more kinetic energy. It will then hit the ball with greater force, causing it to travel faster. (c) Yes. The heavier the ball, the more gravitational potential energy is possess thus resulting in more energy being transferred to the ball causing the speed of the ball to increase. 13. (a) The shadow cast will appear darker. (b) Move the light source closer to the object. (c) The colour of the shadow will remain the same. No light can pass through opaque objects and thus the colour blue is blocked by the opaque object and the colour will not be changed. 14. (a) Energy X : Kinetic energy Energy Y : Electrical energy

(b) Yes. Power station A is using chemical potential energy while power station B is using gravitational potential energy. (c) Yes. When the water level drops to level P, it will have less gravitational potential energy which will in turn converted to be less kinetic energy of the generator so the amount of electrical energy produced will be lower.
