A MESSAGE FROM OUR GOVERNOR

Fellow Members, Again, what a pleasure and honor it is to represent the membership of the Claymont Moose Lodge. The main focus of this newsletter will be an overview of the 80 th annual Convention of the Maryland, Delaware, DC Moose Association held in August. First and foremost, we attended a memorial service to honor our lost brothers and sisters from the past year. What a nice tribute it was from our fraternity. Their families and friends are in our prayers. Secondly, we have some individual honors to bestow. Tim Speakman won the Governors Excel lence Award and has received a lifetime membership to the Moose! And our Junior Governor, Jerry Marley, won the Moose of the Year for Claymont Lodge from the MD-DE-DC Moose Association. Congratulations Tim and Jerry, for putting the Claymont Moose in the forefront. Lastly, I would like to congratulate everyone for some honors that we can all share as members of Moose International. The largest private sector donor to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset, PA (near Shanksville) is Moose International. What a bragging right! And Moosehaven, which is a Top 10 nationally ranked senior care facility that is OUR facility in Orange Park, Florida, is flourishing by our efforts, work, and donations, despite the decrease in Medicare assistance. The director of Moosehaven, John Capes, is humbled and honored to be affiliated with such a dedicated fraternal organization like Moose International. So lets take PRIDE in being a Claymont Moose member. Tell your friends that we are more than just a bar, that we are part of an international organization of giving, fun loving, regular people! And I cant end without a quote. As my father used to ask me, Have you been your best YOU today/ Ask yourself that question every day! Fraternally yours, Andy Zeager

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SENIOR REGENT

Dear Members: Its hard to believe how quickly the year is flying by and that summer is over. There are wonderful memories of the great times that were had by all who attended the summer party, the clam bake, and the membership appreciation night with Helixx (read through the newsletter for information on a repeat performance). We also had several great fundraisers, such as the summer raffle, pretzels for pups, and adopt-a-student, to mention a few. The money raised by these events helps the Lodge, the community, and, of course, Mooseheart and Moosehaven. As you will see when reading through the newsletter, there are many more such events and fundraisers planned for the upcoming months. To make these a success, we are always looking for additional volunteers to pull them off. Theres always something needed, whether its to help set up, donate a dish, fold napkins, or sell raffle ticketsthere are never too many hands to he lp. Please contact any officer if you wish to assist with any of the planned events, or even to suggest something new that we have not tried before. All suggestions are welcome. As our membership campaign for this year states, lets go the distance! Lets work together to make this a banner year for profitable fundraisers, new enrollments, and fun events. In Faith, Hope and Charity, Clare Leonard

If you are interested in participating in community volunteer activities on behalf of the Lodge or Chapter, please talk with an officer for details. Heres an opportunity for you to volunteer.. The New Castle County Police Senior Roll Call Lifeline Program is a free program provided by New Castle County that calls the homes of its subscribers every day to ensure the welfare of its elderly residents, many of whom live alone. Daily phone calls are made to those enrolled to make sure they are doing well and do not require any emergency assistance. If after several attempts the calls are unsuccessful, help is sent to the home to check on the well-being of the subscriber. Senior Roll Call was started back in the mid 90s by then Colonel Thomas P. Gordon and the system has helped make countless saves for individuals who have suffered a debilitating injury or ailment leaving them unable to help themselves. The Program is supported by volunteers who are desperately needed. New Castle County Police Chief Colonel E. M. Setting, Director of Public Safety Joseph Bryant, Jr., and County Executive Thomas P. Gordon encourage residents to learn more about the Program and to participate. To register yourself, sign up a loved one, or to register to be a volunteer, please call the New Castle County Police Community Services Senior Roll Call Line at 302-395-8159 or use Extension 8150. MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN.
The Back to School buzz is everywhere! At Mooseheart, the school renovation project is underway adding to the buzz. The goal is to raise $10,000,000 to fully renovate the current School building and construct additional office, classroom, and multi-purpose space which are in great need. Renovation construction will include an elevator for second floor access, new technology throughout the building, a cost-effective geothermal heating and air conditioning system, and new furniture. To date, over $3,000,000 has been raised but, to reach the goal, support is needed from every Lodge and Chapter member. How to Observe Thanksgiving
Count your blessings instead of your crosses; Count your gains instead of your losses. Count your joys instead of your woes; Count your friends instead of your foes. Count your smiles instead of your tears; Count your courage instead of your fears. Count your full years instead of your lean; Count your kind deeds instead of your mean. Count your health instead of your wealth; Count on God instead of yourself. THE GOLD WRAPPING PAPER Once upon a time, there was a man who worked very hard just to keep food on the table for his family. This particular year a few days before Christmas, he punished his little five-year old daughter after learning that she had used up the familys only roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. As money was tight, he became even more upset when on Christmas Eve he saw that the child had used all of the expensive gold paper to decorate one shoe box that she had put under the Christmas tree. He also was concerned about where she had gotten money to buy what was in the shoe box. Nevertheless, the next morning the little girl, filled with excitement, brought the gift box over to her father and said, This is for you, Daddy! As he opened the box, the father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, now regretting how he had punished her. But when he opened the shoe box, he found it was empty and again his anger flared. Dont you know, young lady, he said harshly, when you give someone a present, theres supposed to be something inside the package! The little girl looked up at him with sad tears rolling from her eyes and whispered, Daddy, its not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was all full. The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his precious little girl. He begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger. An accident took the life of the child only a short time later. It is told that the father kept this little gold shoe box by his bed for all the years of his life. Whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems, he would open the box, take out an imaginary kiss, and remember the love of this beautiful child who had put it there. In a very real sense, each of us has been given an invisible gold box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends, and God. There is no more precious possession anyone could ever hold. Author Unknown
