Logotype Design
The main idea for international house is to provide students of diverse cultures with the opportunity to live and learn together in a community of mutual respect, understanding and international friendship.1 So the key messages I wish to convey through the logo are connection, cooperation, reliability and dynamic energy. The knotted bars create a stable square-shaped pattern, showing connections, cooperation and reliability. The tails of the bars try to make the logo looks more dynamic, flexible and energetic. I choose more abstract elements instead of concrete objects to minimize constraints. To make this pattern in illustrator, I first drew a bar with tails with the pen tool. Then I duplicated the bar, using layers and arrangement options (bringing the bar forward or backward) to form the knotted pattern. Sometimes I broke the bar into small square blocks to form the shape. As for colors, the light blue, green and purple form an analogous harmony (the shadows are darker and the highlights are lighter), giving out a positive and relaxing atmosphere. I choose Book Antiqua as the typeface. This font is simple, clear, stable and elegant, helping to convey consistent messages for the logo.
