A first step into engineering

North Lego League club begins season
BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR

While basic Lego toys may not necessarily be a stepping stone to a career in engineering, a club activity at North Middle School is using the toys as a starting point for activities that involve ground-level engineering. The North First Lego League spent last week preparing for its first competition in November. There are a total of 16 students in the seventh and eighth grades on two teams. Park further explained that the First Lego League involves having students address specific challenges. This year's challenge is called "nature's fury" and simulates a natural disaster. Students have to create programs to allow the robot to address certain aspects of the response to a natural disaster. Clearing streets or moving supplies to a safe area are some of the potential challenges facing students in the league. The students

Menomonee Falls/Germantown Newcomer's Club schedules meetings

Are you new in town or an "old timer" who wants to meet new friends? Have all your children flown from the nest and left you with a quiet house? Come and join other women who are also experiencing transition and looking for ways to connect. The Menomonee Falls /Germantown Newcomers Club is an organization for women who are either new to the area or for those entering a new stage of life, such as empty-nesters. This is a great way to meet other women who live in the area to share time with while attending outings or participating in Hobby Boards (sub-groups). Some of the existing Hobby Boards (sub-groups) are: luncheons, international dining, Bunco, Euchre, game nights, crafts, book club, bowling, golf, etc. Members have diverse interests and many have been members for more than 10 years! We are a friendly and enthusiastic group with a wide variety of interests and members. Monthly meetings are held at the Menomonee Falls Library on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Upcoming meetings are on Nov. 11, Dec. 9, Jan.13, Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 12. More information can be found at the club Web site, http://sites.google.com/site/menfallsgtownnewcomersclub/

Blood drive in Menomonee Falls Nov. 4

Menomonee Falls Community Education and Recreation in partnership with the Blood Center of Wisconsin is hosting a Community Blood Drive Monday, Nov. 4, from 3 7 p.m. in rooms 102A & 102B of the Community Center. The Blood Center of Wisconsin needs donors to help with this worthy cause. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Schedule an appointment online at www.bcw.edu/fallsrec, or call (262) 255-8460. The Blood Center of Wisconsin is the sole supplier of blood, blood products, research and diagnostic laboratory testing for 54 hospitals in our SE Wisconsin 28 counties. The four Waukesha County hospitals alone use over 20,000 components annually to meet the needs of our friends and loved ones. When considering whether to donate blood or not, ask yourself the following question..."In the event my loved one/friend needs a life-saving transfusion, would I not expect a safe & adequate blood supply to be there for him or her?" One in every five people each of us knows will need a blood transfusion in our lifetime! Help us help them on Nov. 4. Schedule an appointment today.

MENOMONEE FALLS POLICE BLOTTER

The following report was taken from records at the Menomonee Falls Police Department. Burglary An investigation revealed that an unknown actor attempted to force entry into a building in the N5000 block of Lilly Road sometime between Sept. 30 and Oct. 12. Drug possession A male and a female, both 17, were found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Oct. 18 at Thorndell Drive and Appleton Avenue. Police responded to the scene after a citizen reported a suspicious vehicle in the area. The male exited a wooded area and police detected the odor of marijuana. Investigation revealed that the girl had hid a marijuana pipe in the woods. Operating while intoxicated A male subject was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense at 9:26 a.m. Oct. 13 after he was stopped for a traffic violation at Highway 41 and Main Street. Retail theft Two unknown actors left Woodman's Food Market, W124 N8145 Highway 145, without paying merchandise. A male subject fled The Home Depot, N94 W18375 Thunder Ridge Road, at 3:29 p.m. Oct. 15 without paying for two DeWalt combo kits valued at $299 each. Four packages of cell phones from Target, N95 W17707 Shady Lane, were found on the roadside in the 9100 block of Water Street Oct. 18. Tip of the Week: Dog training classes benefit every family and dog, not just those who participate in competitions. A dog that learns how to sit, down, come when called, walk nicely on a leash, and leave things when asked is a furry companion that is not only a delight to live with but is one that will also be welcome when you visit friends and family. By taking your dog to a training class and working with them on your own for 5 minutes, two to three times per day, you can get the dog of your dreams. A well trained dog will be greatly appreciated by their veterinarian, boarding kennel, groomer, and daycare as well as friends, family and neighbors. License Number #266935-DS

The history of Veterans Day

By Sam Erickson Veterans Day has taken on a new meaning for many Americans since September 11 and the beginning of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Only a few years ago, many Americans did not know an individual who had been in active combat duty in the last 20 years. After the Vietnam War, the military became much less valued and much less popular in the mainstream culture, but, today, all veterans are honored for their service on Veterans Day. The first Armistice Day celebration took place in 1919 and marked the first anniversary of the Armistice. Thirty states made it a legal holiday and President Woodrow Wilson led the festivities. Armistice Day was made a federal holiday in 1938, making it one of the most recent holidays in America. The name was officially changed to Veterans Day with legislation proposed in 1953. Unlike religious and secular holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, there are very few official celebrations of Veterans Day in America, although this too is rapidly changing as more veterans return from Iraq and Afghanistan. If you are interested in establishing your own traditions, there are many things you can do. Most cities will have some memorial for soldiers lost in war, and laying flowers or remembering soldiers that you have known is a good option. While there are active service men and women in the field, you might consider sending a care package or just a thank-you card to a soldier. You can even discuss the history of the holiday and American military involvement with your children. Most holidays in the United States have been moved to Mondays to create a long weekend. The same was done for Veterans Day, but veterans groups protested and it was moved back to the traditional date of November 11. Most groups thought it would raise the profile of the holiday, but it has, in fact, had the opposite effect. While more people are observing the holiday in recent years, most businesses do not close for the day. Only government offices and banks are closed. Official ceremonies center on the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. A color guard from all branches of the military patrols the site through the night, a presidential wreath is laid and Taps is played over the grave. Veterans Day is both a state and a federal holiday in all states. It coincides with international celebrations of Armistice Day and Remembrance Day in other parts of the world. The holiday is observed on November 11 because major hostilities in World War I were ended formally at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of November, the 11th month, in 1918 when Germany signed the Armistice at the Versailles Palace in Paris. Veterans Day has a different focus than Memorial Day, as Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank the living veterans in the United States for their service and to acknowledge their contributions to American society.

Hamilton board approves revised levy

The Hamilton School Board approved a revised levy and budget Oct. 28. According to information provided by the district, the net tax levy will be $29,082,672, a 3.16 percent decrease from last year. The tax rate is projected to decrease from $10.40 per $1,000 equalized valuation last year to $10.20 per $1,000 equalized valuation this year. Superintendent Kathleen Cooke said the district was projecting the tax levy to be down this year. She said the levy was further reduced as a result of the Legislature providing additional aid to school districts. The total equalized valuation of property in the district is $2,852,610,591, a 1.26 percent decrease from last year. The total budget is $52,993,998. District Director of Business Services Bryan Ruud said the revised figure reflects additional grant funds and an additional $2 million for developing a first-floor athletic training room at the high school. As a result, $1,079,298 of fund balance will be spent toward that project. According to information from the district: The amount of general aid from the state is $18,974,577, a 7.4 percent increase from last year; The local tax levy covers 52.78 percent of the district budget while state aid covered 40.06 percent. The remaining revenues are covered by grants, local fees and interdistrict aids. 55.75 percent of the district budget goes toward instruction, 41.18 percent goes toward support services while 3.07 percent goes toward non-program transactions. 51.48 percent of the district budget covers salaries, 21.99 percent covers fringe benefits, 18.47 percent covers purchased services, with the remaining amount covering capital object, non-capital objects, insurance and judgments, debt retirement and other items. Looking ahead: During the meeting, Ruud said the process for the next budget starts at this time of the year, with development of the budget starting in December with work done at the department and building level. That information is then brought back to the administrative level in March. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

Falls to celebrate season with two days of holiday fun

BY NIKKI ACKERMAN STAFF WRITER
The joy and togetherness of Christmas will be celebrated full force in Menomonee Falls this year as the village hosts two days of seasonal events. Its such a nice thing for families to do, said Barb Watters, BID director for Menomonee Falls, of attending the local parades and participating in the related festivities. It really puts you in the Christmas spirit. New this year, a Christmas Marketwhich will feature open houses and discounts at downtown businesseswill run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, with some of the businesses carrying the market into Sunday, Dec. 1. Speciality vendors (such as those selling items like jewelry, artwork, chocolate and other craft fair-type items) will be set up in some of the businesses. (Anyone who is interested in purchasing a vendor booth for $10 can call Watters at 262-251-8797.) The Nov. 30 activities will also include Santa Claus at American Legion Post 382, located at N88 W16652 Main St.; horse and wagon rides from noon to 3 p.m. (The ride will take people into the historic neighborhood and a little bit down Main Street, Watters noted); caroling by Accompany of Kids; the Patio Players A Christmas Carol cast dressed in their costumes; and live musical entertainment in some of the stores and outside. The Dec. 1 activities will kick off with a performance by Accompany of Kids at 3:45 p.m., immediately followed by a tree lighting ceremony in Centennial Plaza. Also, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be around to visit with the kids, Watters added. The parade will begin one block west of Pilgrim Road on Main Street at 4:30 p.m. The parade is wonderful because its in the evening when it is getting dark so the participants can light up their floats, said Watters. It adds a whole other dimension. Other area activities: Silver TeaSunday, Dec. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Miller Davidson House at Old Falls Village, located at the corner of Highway Q and Pilgrim Road, in Menomonee Falls. The teas theme will be The 1930s. Also for the event Mrs. Santa will read stories to the children and a Christmas cookie bake sale will be held in the Public House. The Menomonee Falls Historical Society will offer free admission, parking and refreshments for this event. Donations are accepted. For more information, visit www.oldfallsvillage.com. Menomonee Falls Symphony Orchestras presentation of "Caroling for Christmas"Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at Hamilton Fine Arts Center, W220 N4915 Town Line Road, Sussex. Event will feature adult and children's choirs. Tickets range from $6-$15. For tickets or more information, call (262) 246-1973, ext. 1550. Decorate Your Own Gingerbread House activity (1st grade and up)Monday, Dec. 16, 6 to 8 p.m., at Menomonee Falls Public Library. Registration required. One can register for programs by visiting www.home.mf.lib.wi.us or calling Youth Desk at (262) 532-8915.

The final levy the School District of Menomonee Falls will be below what voters approved during the annual meeting in September while the tax rate will remain unchanged. The Menomonee Falls School Board finalized the levy during the Oct. 28 meeting. According to information from the district, the total tax levy will be $39,067,852, which is 1.9 percent increase from last year. That is below the 2.2 percent increase that was approved by voters in September. The tax rate will be $12.35 per $1,000 equalized valuation, which is the same as what was estimated at the annual meeting and a 57 cent increase over last year. The total equalized value of land in the district upon which the tax rate is based was estimated at $3,162,676,195, which is below the district

estimate of $3,172,304,778 that was provided at the annual meeting. The equalized value of land is also 2.85 percent below the value from the previous year. Under the district budget, the resident of a home with an equalized value of $250,000 will pay an additional $144.11 in the district portion of the property tax, which is $67.14 more than last year and 16 cents more than what was estimated at the annual meeting. The district budget will be $57,335,484, an increase of $71,301 from the budget estimated in September but .13 percent below last year. The district will receive $8,068,046 in total state revenues, which is just over $1 million less than last year. Compiled by Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

Winterizing your pipes

By Sam Erickson Not everyone has to worry about pipes freezing in the winter, but much of America does. If the temperature in your area routinely drops to 20 degrees or below, it will be worth your time and energy to prepare and maintain your home to prevent your pipes from bursting. Pipes burst when an ice blockage forms and the pressure builds up behind it. While you won't have ice shooting into your home, you'll have all of the water that has built up behind it in the basement, in the crawlspace or through the walls of your house. Proper insulation is the first step to preventative maintenance. The unheated areas of your house are the most important to insulate. Attics, basements and crawlspaces are the general culprits. Polyethylene or fiberglass tubes are available to keep the cold out of pipes. You'll want to measure the diameter of the pipes and purchase the correct size. This will ensure you have to make only one trip to your home supply store. Pipe insulation is carried in most big box stores and in all hardware and home supply stores. It can be cheaper in the spring months prices tend to go up as the temperatures drop and demand goes up. You will want to be particularly aware of any pipes that have been stressed by previous freezing or have recently been installed. If you experience significant periods of severe winter weather, you might consider wrapping pipes in heat tape before insulating them. The instructions for installation are very specific, and it is essential to follow them. If you don't, the heat tape can lead to fires. Heat tape also has to be checked regularly to ensure it is still functioning effectively. Once you've taken all of the prerequisite steps, you'll still have some maintenance to do to ensure you don't wake up in a puddle. When the temperature is expected to drop, turn on your faucets, particularly those that flow along outside walls and are the most exposed to the cold. This will reduce the pressure and can prevent an explosion in the pipes, even if an ice dam does form. Opening cabinets that contain pipes will let the warm air from the rest of your house flow onto the pipes, keeping them warmer. You can take one more step and check the basement and garage for any leaks. Look particularly for places where cold air could be directly applied to pipes from cracked windows, gaps or areas where the insulation has worn away. Applying your general insulation strategies will save money on your energy bill, and it can also keep your pipes warmer and delay or prevent a freeze. Preventative maintenance is never an attractive fix. It's neither a new skylight nor a fresh coat of paint, and it won't be instantly noticeable. Pipe insulation and maintenance, however, will add to the value of your home in the long run by preventing costly damage and a nasty surprise in the middle of the night.

Girls volleyball: Falls advances to sectional final

The Menomonee Falls girls volleyball team won its sectional semifinal against Oconomowoc at Germantown Oct. 31, 2512, 25-18, 25-13. With the win, Menomonee Falls advanced to the sectional final against Mukwonago at Watertown Nov. 2. Mukwonago advanced to the sectional final with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 win over Germantown. Menomonee Falls advanced to the sectional bracket with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-19 win over Homestead Oct. 26. In the second game, the teams were tied 3-3 following an errant serve but a kill by Simone Lee sparked a 9-1 run. Menomonee Falls held a lead of seven points or more throughout the remainder of the game. In the third game, Homestead scored the first six points until a kill by Lee put Menomonee Falls on the board. Menomonee Falls then went on a 6-1 run and tied the score at 7-7 on an ace by Brittany Robinson. Homestead stayed with Menomonee Falls throughout the game and held a 17-16 lead. But a block by Mackenzie Robertson and Erin Otzelberger was followed by Robinson kill as Menomonee Falls closed out the game a few minutes later. Afterward, Menomonee Falls Coach J.C. Bruns said he initially worked on some situations in the third game and made changes in the heat of the moment in preparation for future matches. We just passed poorly, Bruns said of the third game. Our plan was to do some different things. We still did those things were able to be successful and win the third game. Bruns indicated he would focus on practicing the changes more in the coming week. Its all about fine tuning and making kids realize the slightest bad pass (or) bad choice could lead to a lost point on the floor which could lead to you going home for the season at this point in the year, Bruns said. Bruns added that both the blocking and serving improved following slow starts. Germantown won its regional bracket Oct 26 with a 25-20,25-20, 18-25, 25-22 win over Arrowhead. By Thomas J. Football: Germantown wins playoff opener

Germantown scored early and often to win its level 1 playoff opener against Milwaukee Morse-Marshall, 56-14. Germantown got on the board at the 11:15 mark, as Joe Lemerond ran 49-yards to finish off a two play drive. Germantown then held Morse-Marshall and forced a punt, with the Warhawks getting possession on the Morse-Marshall 16-yard line. Lemerond again on a 3-yard run that finished off a two-play drive at the 9:27 mark. Germantown scored three more times in the quarter to take a 35-0 lead. Lemerond ran five times for 72 yards and two touchdowns while Quinn Fliss ran12 times for 94 yards and one touchdown. Dwyane Lawhorn Jr. completed 6 or 14 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns. We came in, we got after it, we learned a little bit about the playoffs, Germantown Coach Jake Davis said afterward. I told these guys it was going to take a lot of focus. Germantown third score came following a fumble recovery, and Davis later noted he told his team they have to be able to advantage of mistakes, and his team did a nice job of that. The game was also the first taste of colder weather conditions, with a strong wind thrown in. Thats no excuse, weve got to play. Theyre Wisconsin boys, they should be able to handle it, Davis said. With the win, Germantown advanced to a Nov. 1 Level 2 game at Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac 25, Menomonee Falls 24: The Cardinals answered a field goal with a touchdown to advance in the playoffs. Menomonee Falls held a 21-13 lead after Christian Almonte scored at the 8:31 mark of the third quarter. Fond du Lac answered with a drive that was finished when Quinn Woelfel connected with Kyle Pierce on a 12-yard pass play with 29:19 left in the third quarter. Menomonee Falls added to its lead when a 22-yard field goal by Alec Knuese gave Menomonee Falls a 24-19 lead with 8:16 left in the game. Fond du Lac answered with a drive that ended with a 3-yard run by Justin Maratik with 3:12 left in the game. The two point conversion was unsuccessful. Menomonee Falls ended the season with a 7-3 record. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

Cross country: Germantown boys qualify for state

BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR The Germantown boys cross country team advanced to the state tournament by the closest of margins at the Homestead sectional at Tendick Park in Saukville Oct. 26. Germantown scored 90 points to finish second, one point ahead of Wauwatosa East. The state cross country meet will be held at The Ridges golf course in Wisconsin Rapids. Port Washington won the meet with 49 points. This will be the first trip for the Germantown boys team since 2010. Trevor Becker led Germantown with a fourth place finish, running the course in 16:40. He was followed by Nick Foti (14th, 17:11), Brady Sheridan (22nd, 17:32), Dan Horanoff (24th, 17:37), and Jake DuFrane (26th, 17:39). Also running for Germantown were Craig Reese (31st, 17:50) and Jake Verburgt (32nd, 17:51). Germantown Coach Andy Bavlnka said there were predictions indicating his team would finish fourth or fifth. We were definitely under the radar, we talked about using that to our advantage, Bavlnka said. He said it just played out well. Our guys ran this course real well. I think we executed the plan we talked about real well. To be honest, Tosa ran the course real well, too. They definitely worked the second part of the course and moved up on us. The chips fell where the fell. Bavlnka described the moment after the race when he wasnt completely certain if his team qualified for state as anxious. Youre either validating a couple of years of work for a kid or youre breaking a kids heart. Its tough, Bavlnka said. Ive been on that other end where the Tosa guys are. Bavlnka said in the middle of the year the team started to believe in each other and what they do. Becker said the team talked all week about the possibility of being able to cut seconds off their times and make state. After the race, Becker said teammates were at first skeptical about whether they qualified for the meet. We were looking at the team results and we knew we had a great shot, Becker said. Menomonee Falls finished fourth at the meet. Kaleb Becker finished ninth overall with a time of 16:56. Becker finished sixth among runners on teams who didn't qualify for the state tournament, just missing out on qualifying for an individual berth. Behind Becker were teammates Jake McMahon (12th, 17:00), Josh Hindman (15th, 17:12), Dom Carini (38th, 17:58), Jayce Kolinski (40th, 18:00), Ben Maas (48th, 18:22), and Brandon Schinker (57th, 18:42). In the girls competition, Germantowns Alyssa Goesch finished fourth overall to earn an individual bid to the state meet. The Germantown girls team finished fourth. Goesch was followed by teammates Brianna Klopfer (12th, 16:19), Calli Lemke (23rd, 17:05), Molly Baus (26th, 17:07), Hannah Schaetzel (36th,17:34) and Julia Schroeder (38th, 17:38). Afterward, Coach Nancy Pietrowiak noted her team is very young, with with several freshmen and sophomore runners along with a senior running cross country for the first time. I knew that wed be right on the bubble, Pietrowiak said. Pietrowiak said she knew Whitefish Bay was likely to win the sectional with Germantown competing with Cedarburg, Wauwatosa West and Homestead for the second spot. She added she didnt realize that Nicolet would emerge as strongly as they did. Its good to see Alyssa make it. She certainly deserved it. Shes run well all season, Pietrowiak said Pietrowiak added it would have been nice if her team could have had another individual qualifier for the state meet. The Menomonee Falls girls team finished 10th at the meet. Tessa Estock finished 13th overall with a time of 16:25, missing out by one position for a individual berth to the state meet. Estock was followed by Emma Jankowski (47th, 18:08), Amanda Schultz (55th, 18:38), Allison Schultz (60th, 18:57), Jesse Rabay (61st, 19:10), Kerianne Pawley (62nd, 19:13) and Megan Rohde (65th, 19:52). Hamilton teams finish season The Hamilton boys and girls cross country teams wrapped up their season at the Muskego sectional at Lake Denoon Park at Muskego Oct. 26. The Hamilton girls team finished fourth. Ashlyn Paulson led Hamilton by finishing 20th with a time of 15:38. She was followed by Emma Woelfel (29th, 16:14), Katlyn Pollari (39th, 16:43), Rachel Jeffers (47th, 16:53), Anna Selestow (52nd, 17:05), Marie Ammel (59th, 17:26) and Emerson Vesely (74th, 18:09). The Hamilton boys team finished fourth. Hamilton was led by Robert Little, who finished 14th with a time of 17:06. He was followed by Joshua Desorcy (19th, 17:12), Aaron Hintz (27th, 17:20), Steven Smith (36th, 17:31), Eric Downs (41st, 17:39), Jacob Storm (50th, 18:00) and Sean Thompson (58th, 18:08).

Football: Late touchdown lifts Hamilton past Lancers

Hamilton barely had any time to run out the clock against Brookfield Central in a Division 2 playoff opener Oct. 25. The Chargers outscored the Lancers 13-10 in the fourth quarter to win 37-34 and advance to a Level 2 matchup at Homestead Nov. 1. It was a battle, but it was too close for me, to be honest, Hamilton Coach John Damato said afterward. Hamilton led 27-21 entering the fourth quarter and 27-yard field goal by Brett Harvestine gave the Chargers a 30-21 lead with 5:42 left in the game. The Lancers quickly went downfield on their next possession and scored on a 7-yard run by Terry Wallen. Drew Patterson gave the Chargers the winning margin when he scored on a 73-yard run with 3:11 left in the game to give Hamilton a 37-28 lead. The teams met two weeks earlier and Patterson indicated that Hamilton ran the same plays and formations as before but with a few adjustments in the later stages of the game. Hamilton's defense stalled the Central long enough so that the Lancers didn't score until there was 43 seconds left in the game, as Wallen scored on a 1-yard run. The two point conversion attempt was unsuccessful and the Chargers recovered the ensuing onside kick. After one running play, Hamilton took a knee to run out of the close. Patterson led Hamilton with five touchdowns and 280 yards in 27 rushing attempts. Riley Richarz led Central with 213 yards and three touchdowns in 29 rushing attempts while Wallen added 23 yards and two touchdowns. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

Home sales up 16.4% in September

Home sales in the Metropolitan Milwaukee market were up 16.4% in September, compared to a year earlier according to analysis by the Greater Milwaukee Association of REALTORS. Through the 3rd quarter the market had a 12.7% increase in sales versus 2012. Sales There were a total of 1,484 homes sold in September, compared to 1,275 in September of 2012. For the first 9-months of the year, there were 13,917 sales vs. 12,349 during the same span in 2012. Year-End Outlook While the fall/winter market usually sees a slowdown in activity, we expect 2013 to end on a positive note. With nearly 14,000 sales completed, and a historic average of 3,000 to 4,000 sales in the 4th quarter, we are comfortable projecting that 2013 will end with approximately 17,000 sales. That would put the year on the level of the early 2000s, when we saw total annual sales in the high teens. Listings In the first quarter of 2013 the market saw double-digit decreases in listings, which precipitated a reduction in days-on-market (DOM). [DOM is the length of time between the signing of a listing contract and an accepted offer on a property.] Through the summer sellers started feeling better about the prices their homes would fetch on the market and began listing in greater quantities. Listings for the 3rd quarter finished 13.6% ahead of 2012. For the year, the Metropolitan market area is 2.1% ahead of 2012. Inventory With total market area listings at the end of September at 11,253, the inventory level was 7.7months, down from Augusts 7.9 level. A year ago, the inventory level was at 12.08-months. If the 1,246 listings with an active offer are subtracted, the supply of homes available for purchase drops to 5.6-months. Washington County: Eight of the countys 15 communities increased their average sale price through the 3rd quarter. The City of West Bend had a 22.9% increase in unit sales (going from 341 to 419) a 3.6% increase in average sale price ($166,230 to $172,254) and a 20.8% decrease in DOM (120 to 95). Ozaukee County: In Ozaukee County, 6 of 10 communities saw prices increase and the county overall had an 8.2% increase in prices. However, the variation within the county was wide with the Village of Bayside decreasing 23.7% and the Village of Newberg increasing 105.7% (both Bayside and Newberg are between 2 counties). The Greater Milwaukee Association of REALTORS (GMAR) is a 4,000-member strong professional organization dedicated to providing information, services and products to help REALTORS help their clients buy and sell real estate. Dear Dr.s Winter: Can you make my dentures non-removable? Details: I had my few remaining teeth removed and torus surgery done in Dec of 2008 and full dentures (upper and lower) put in immediately. It went well. My dentist explained that after a year of complete healing I would probably require a re-lining at a cost of $1000. I would like to explore my other options. I am tired of using adhesives 2-3 times a day. I am a 58 yr old healthy active woman. thanks Answer: Dear Danielle, you sound like an excellent candidate for "fixed teeth." When a denture needs relining it is because the gum tissues have healed and shrunken after the initial extractions. The rubbing of the denture against this tissue leads to bone loss as well. People lose bone at an alarming rate and over the first 5 years there can be a loss of 60% of the original bone height and or width. If you come in for a comprehensive examination and x-ray visit we can discuss your options, the associated costs and the time involved to help you reach your goals. Options for fixed dentistry on implants will be either a "hybrid" prosthesis-a fixed denture that is cemented or screwed into the implants or a fixed porcelain bridge on implants. In order for you to get these prostheses you would need 6-9 implants in the upper arch and 5-9 implants in the lower jaw. The number of implants depends on the quality, quantity and location of your existing bone as well as your budget. I often explain to patients that if you go with a prosthesis where only 4 implants are placed and 1 fails, you have a complete failure of the bridge. So using more supports will improve the engineering of the prosthesis and decrease the forces on each individual implant. If the implants are found to be too expensive for

the number required, then sometimes fewer implants can be placed with an interim snapon-denture, until more implants can be afforded. Then the prosthesis can be changed from a removable to a fixed bridge. So the concept of "Upgradeable Dentistry" allows our patients to sequentially upgrade their dental options based upon their financial, emotional and personal readiness. You can read Dr. Richard Winter's articles on Upgradeable Dentistry at WWW.WINTERDENTAL.COM under publications to see more examples of these implant options as well as videos. Please call our office at 414-464-9021 to schedule your visit. I look forward to meeting you. Your Home Sold in Under 120 Days at Your Price or I Buy It

Steve & Denise McKenzie
When we responded to Steves your home sold in 120 days or I buy it ad, we thought it was a gimmick & frankly we were skeptical! Well when Steve actually bought our Buyers home so they could buy ours, our skepticism obviously changed. We thank Steve for his innovative ideas & can attest to the fact that they really work!
