One serious problem that can worsen America’s economic growth domestically
and can affect the US’s ability to sell products in other countries is the federal budget
deficit. Almost every year since 1980, the government has been spending more
money than it has taken in. Deficit spending in the last administration has exceeded $
200 billion a year – nearly three times greater than that of to-day’s administration.
Such deficits can worsen the economy. They lead to inflation, high interest rates and
unemployment.
One important measure (мера) to control budget deficit was the Gramm-
Rudmen deficit reduction plan requiring yearly spending cuts of 36 billion.

been the increase of people employed in service.
It reflects improved labour efficiency in industry and a change of the growth of
high technology industries and decline of the old traditional industries. So, much
