Drying Oven Memmert UP400

Oven with programmable PID regulator for heating and cooling ramps. Oven only works at atmosphere, there is no vacuum pump. Temperature setting accuracy = 1C, absolute maximum temperature = Inner volume 53 liter, 1400 W electrical heating power.
Manufacturers manual

300C.

Operating controls, from left to right:

Knob and button for setting temperature and programming ramps (times and temperatures). Power ON/OFF and selector for continuous or programmed operation. Setting of absolute maximum safety temperature

The slot for the card is not used, there was no card delivered with the oven.
When the power switch in at "0" (zero) the oven is powered OFF. Power switch at "1" (one), the oven works in continuous mode. All changes of the set temperature take immediate effect. The heating is on until oven is powered OFF. Power switch at clock symbol, the oven works in programmed mode. All programming is done with the leftmost knob and button. The three lights: Green = power on, red = fault, yellow = heating.

When power switch is at "1": By rotating the knob you cycle through several menu items. To change the value of one of the items, press the set button and rotate the knob. The different menu items are:

TEMP, press set button and rotate the knob to change temperature. FAN, there is no fan on this model of oven. FLAP, press set button and rotate the knob to change the air flap from closed (CLOSED) to 100% open (OPEN) in 10% increments. This is a 30 mm air valve at the back of the oven. It is used to vent moisture during a drying cycle. PRINT, there is no printer connected. SETUP, further sub-menus for setting date etc., no reason to change anything here.

When power switch is at the clock symbol, programming mode: By rotating the knob you cycle through several menu items. To change the value of one of the items, press the set button and rotate the knob. The different menu items are:

PROG, press set button and rotate the knob to start or stop a programme. In order to edit (next menu item) a programme it has to be stopped. EDIT, press set and rotate knob to YES to start edit a programme. PRINT, press set button and rotate the knob to turn ON or OFF printing. Should be OFF, no printer connected. SETUP, further sub-menus for setting date etc., no reason to change anything here.

As an programming example we will program the temperature curve below:

1. Check that a program is not running: rotate knob until PROG is shown, press set, rotate until STOP is shown, release set. 2. Turn knob until EDIT, press set, rotate knob to select YES, release set. 3. This sub menu contains the different temperature segments. For each temperature segment there are four parameters, (n is the number of the temperature segment): o TIMEn = time for n:th segment o TEMPn = temperature to reach at end of n:th segment o FLAPn = position of air intake flap: CLOSE, NN%, OPEN. o HOLDn/LOOPn/SPWTn/NEXTn/ENDn, the important option in this example is SPWTn which means that the oven waits until temperature has stabilised at TEMPn and then moves on to next segment. By selecting SPWTn with set, you access parameters for the next segment. To make the last segment, select ENDn.
For the temperature profile above we would select and set (TIME1, TEMP1, FLAP1, SPWT1) and then (TIME2, TEMP2 (equal to TEMP1), FLAP2, SPWT2) and finally (TIME3, TEMP3, FLAP3, END3).

4. When ENDn is selected the EXIT option appears, press set and turn knob until YES appears. Then program is stored and you exit the edit menu. 5. To run the program, select PROG, then press set and select START.

To set the alarm temperature (maximum temperature if

something goes wrong), press alarm set and rotate the red knob for desired maximum

temperature.
