UNIT 15: LEARNING NEW WORDS Focus : Listening and speaking Learning Standards : 1.1.

2 {SK & SJK} Objective : By the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to: i. say and segment words - pin, ball, dog and cap correctly; Time : 30/60 minutes Teaching Aids : A box filled with a Soft Toy, a pin, a ball and a cap. Cross Curricular Element: Multiple intelligences Introduction: a. Greet pupils. Good morning, class/children. or Good afternoon, class/children. Set Induction: a. Show a box to pupils. b. Teacher calls 3 pupils to come and guess what is inside the box. c. Pupils will feel the things inside the box with their hands and guess what the item is. Step 1: a. Teacher takes out the items and shows them to the pupils as to verify if they have guess correctly. b. Pupils observe the item and name them and teacher corrects them by giving correct words. Step 2: a. Teacher asks pupils to segment the words of the items with guidance. b. Pupils segment the words together.

Step 3: a. Pupils are guided to understand form of phrases. a. Teacher asks pupils to describe the items in the box according to shapes and colour such as red cap, black dog and etc as to introduce phrases.

Closure: a. Teacher asks a few pupils to say out loud the words and the other pupils follow with the guidance of the teacher.

Focus : Reading Learning Standards : 2.2.2 , 2.1.2 (a), 2.1.4 Objective : By the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to: I. read and understand phrases . II. recognise and articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllable III. segment words into phonemes to spell. Time : 30/60 minutes Teaching Aids : Pictures, Letters card, Cross Curricular Element: Multiple intelligences Introduction: a. Greet pupils. b. Encourage pupils to reply. Set Induction: a. Teacher shows the 4 pictures of items in previously learnt lesson. ( Refer Appendix 1) b. Teacher encourages pupils to talk about the picture by asking a few questions such as: -do you still remember what picture are these? - can you make sounds of these things such as car, dog and etc.

Step 1: a. Get pupils to name the object in the pictures based on the initial letters of each words. (Refer Appendix 2) Example: Teacher puts up letter C as the first letter for CAP. b. Teacher asks the pupils to spell the word CAP. c. Teacher completes the letters and asks the pupils to read them aloud. * This activity is carried out for all words.

Step 2: a. Teacher puts up 4 phrase cards and 4 pictures on the white board. b. Pupils read the phrases with teachers guidance. a. Read the words again according to pictures shown by teacher. b. Teacher removes the picture cards from the whiteboard. c. Teacher pronounces the phrases and pupils will come out to point to the correct phrase.

Closure: a. All pupils read phrases card shown by the teacher.

Focus : Writing Learning Standards : 3.1.1 ( c ), ( d ), ( e), 3.1.2 (a) {SK & SJK}

Objective : By the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to: i. Complete the letters using the configuration clues. ii. Match pictures with the words. iii.Match and write the phrases.

Time : 30/60 minutes Teaching Aids : Pictures and worksheet . Cross Curricular Element : Multiple intelligences

Introduction: a. Greet pupils. b. Encourage pupils to reply.

Set Induction: a. Teacher drills pupils on previously learnt words and phrases by showing the pictures. b. Teacher segments and pupils will guess name of the letter.

Step 1: a. Teacher distributes worksheet. (Appendix 3) b. Teacher asks pupils to look at the picture and guess the correct words. c. Pupils need to write the correct letters in the configuration box. d. Teacher discusses the answers with pupils.

Step 2: a. Teacher distributes and explains how to do second worksheet. (Appendix 4) b. Pupils match the pictures to the words. c. Teacher discusses the answers with pupils.

Step 3: a. Teacher distributes the third worksheet. (Appendix 5) b. Pupils match and write the phrases correctly

Focus : Language Arts Learning Standards : 4.3.1

Objective : By the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to: i. colour pictures as in their previously learnt lesson. ii. produce a book mark. Time : 60 minutes Teaching Aids : Pictures, paper, drawing paper, stick. Cross Curricular Element : Creativity/Multiple intelligences

Introduction: a. Greet pupils. b. Encourage pupils to reply. Set Induction: a. Teacher shows objects from a box. b. Pupils need to name them.

Step 1: a. Teacher distributes worksheet to pupils. (Appendix 6) b. Pupils colour the picture based on the colour they learnt in previous lesson. c. Pupils need to paste and cut the picture on the drawing paper given. d. Pupils paste the bookmark on a stick.

Closure: a. Teacher leaves the class by saying: Thank you, class/children. b. Pupils respond: Thank you , , Madam Ooi./ Puan Laila. /Encik Amran./ Mr Ooi.
