Abstract
Product documentation is often a separate step that takes place after product design in many product development processes, creating delays and the need for additional rework. Shortening this step developing documentation content concurrently can accelerate time-to-market and increase competitiveness. Now it is possible to address all product documentation needs including materials for manufacturing, service, user manuals, and marketing by using a new class of documentation. Gathering technical attributes of engineering products and documentation should be done. Business analysis as a discipline has a heavy overlap with requirements analysis sometimes also called requirements engineering. Identified the functional requirements for the Symbiosys Management Project.

1.Overview on IT industry: 1.1 Introduction The information technology (IT) and information technology enabled services (ITeS) industry has been one of the key driving forces fuelling Indias economic growth. India is one of the fastest-growing IT services markets in the world, with three-quarters of large Indian enterprises planning to increase IT spending in 2013, with an average IT budget of US$ 12.2 million, according to a survey by Gartner. The Indian IT-business process outsourcing (BPO) sector including the domestic and exports segments continue to grow from strength to strength, witnessing high levels of activity both onshore as well as offshore. The companies continue to move up the value-chain to offer higher end research and analytics services to their clients. India's leadership position in the global IT and BPO industries are based primarily on the following advantages. 1.2 Market Size The Indian IT and ITES industry has continued to perform its role as the most consistent growth driver for the economy. Service, software exports and BPO remain the mainstay of the sector. Over the last five years, the IT and ITES industry has grown at a remarkable pace. A majority of the Fortune 500 and Global 2000 corporations are sourcing IT and ITES from India and it is the premier destination for the global sourcing of IT and ITES accounting for 55 per cent of the global market in offshore IT services and garnering 35 per cent of the ITES/BPO market. India's IT and BPO sector exports are expected to grow by 12-14 per cent in FY14 to touch US$ 84 billion - US$ 87 billion, according to Nasscom. The Indian IT infrastructure market is projected to grow by 9.7 per cent y-o-y to reach US$ 2.1 billion in 2013. Nasscom has created a separate unit to drive its newfound enthusiasm for software products, and has set a target of US$ 10 billion in revenues from software products by 2020. 1.3 Investments EMC Corporation's investment in India is expected to reach US$ 1.5 billion by 2014. The company started its journey in India with a modest investment of US$ 100 million in 2005.

Some of the major investments in the sector are as follows: D-Link plans to set up a testing lab in India in the second half of this year to ensure better localisation, said Mr A P Chen, Chairman, D-Link. Hexaware Technologies has set up an onshore delivery centre in Texas, US. The centre is its third onshore delivery centre in the US. NIIT Technologies has won a multi-year contract from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) worth Rs 344 crore (US$ 61.84 million) for the implementation of Airport Operations Control Centres (AOCC). The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) plans to set up a data centre in Hyderabad. The centre will address the storage and cloud needs of small and medium enterprises (SME). Wipro has signed an agreement to acquire a minority stake in Opera Solutions, a global big data and analytics company, for about US$ 30 million. 1.4 Government Initiatives FDI up to 100 per cent under the automatic route is allowed in Data processing, software development and computer consultancy services; Software supply services; Business and management consultancy services, Market Research Services, Technical testing & Analysis services. The Government of India's move to do away with the mandatory requirement of 10 hectares of minimum land area for setting up an IT and ITeS special economic zones (SEZ) is expected to provide a major boost to the real estate and IT sector. Some of the major initiatives taken by the Government to promote IT and ITeS sector in India are: The Government of West Bengal plans to spend Rs 41 crore (US$ 7.37 million) to roll out citizen-centric services electronically across 19 districts including Kolkata Kerala has set an ambitious target of becoming a cent per cent digital state in governance, said Mr P K Kunhalikutty, Minister for Industries and Information Technology, Government of

Kerala. The State has around 600 small, medium and large IT firms employing over 80,000 professionals directly and nearly three times the number indirectly The Cabinet has recently approved the National Policy on Information Technology 2012. The policy aims to increase revenues of IT and ITES industry from US$ 100 billion to US$ 300 billion by 2020 and expand exports from US$ 69 billion to US$ 200 billion by 2020 The Government of India plans to set up 15 new laboratories for testing hardware and software products under public-private partnership (PPP) model The Ministry of Finance has issued a circular to chairmen of public sector banks and regional rural banks, that all payments to customers, staff, vendors and suppliers as well as disbursement of loans and payments towards investments should be made only through the electronic mode Road Ahead Globalisation has a profound impact in shaping the Indian IT industry over the years with India capturing a sizeable chunk of the global market for technology sourcing and business services. Over the years the growth drivers for this sector have been the verticals of manufacturing, telecommunication, insurance, banking, finance and of late the fledgling retail revolution. As the new scenario unfolds it is getting clear that the future growth of IT and ITeS will be fuelled by the verticals of climate change, mobile applications, healthcare, energy efficiency and sustainable energy. Traditional business strongholds would make way for new geographies, there would be new customers and more and more of SMEs will go for IT application and services.Demand from emerging countries is expected to show strong growth going forward. Tax holidays are also extended to IT sector for STPI and SEZs. Further, the country is providing procedural ease and single window clearance for setting up facilities. Growth in offshoring is expected to outclass the growth in overall IT spend across the various verticals. Offshoring as a per cent of total spend is also expected to rise across the various verticals. India has the opportunity to tap the growing offshoring market with its cost advantage, expertise and huge talent pool.

1.5 Growth of global IT economy The global IT industry has matured over the years and has emerged to be a chief contributor to the global economic growth. The global IT sector, constituted by the software and services, Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) and the hardware segments, has been on a gradual growth trajectory with a steady rise in revenues as witnessed in the past few years. 2008 was a strong year as the number of contracts; the total value and the annualized contract values exceeded that of the preceding year. Among all users above average growth was witnessed in the government, healthcare and the manufacturing segments. The global software and services industry touched USD 967 billion, recording an above average growth of 6.3% over the past year. Worldwide ITES grew by 12%, the highest among all technology related segments. Hardware spend is estimated to have grown by 4% from USD 570 billion to nearly USD 594 billion in 2008. Currently, the global IT industry is experiencing a slump with the recessions in the US and many industrial countries with the level of impact varying by country / market and industry. Forrester in its recent report has predicted that the US IT market will dip to 1.6% in 2009, down from 4.1% growth in 2008 (see figure below). The Asia Pacific region, using a weighted average1 of local currencies, will do a bit better in 2009, with 3.1% growth. The Western and Central Europe markets will have growth in local currency that is closer to 1%. By 2010, the US market will shift to 7.3% growth, not far behind the 9.5% growth in the other Americas, well ahead of the 5.5% growth in Asia Pacific and 5.3% growth in Western and Central Europe. As it stands, the US market accounts for majority of the global purchases of IT goods and services. The US market which represented 37% of the global market for IT goods and services in 2005 had shrunk to 33% share in 2008. Western and Central Europe would see its share of global IT purchases fluctuate between 26% and 28% between 2008 to 2010; Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and Asia Pacific are expected to hold their share positions.

The global IT purchases are expected to plummet as strong dollar would hurt dollardenominated growth rates for IT purchases going ahead. The British pound was 23% lower in Q4 2008 from the year-ago level, the Indian rupee is down 20%, the Canadian dollar is 19% weaker, and the euro is down 9%. Only the Japanese yen and the Chinese yuan renminbi have gained in value against the US dollar. While these currency swings are Likely to reverse in 2009 as the financial crisis fades, the dollar is still likely to remain above 2008 levels for most of the year. That will dampen global IT market growth measured in dollars and hurt the reported revenues of US vendors like Accenture, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and IBM with large overseas operations. With global tech market in US dollars likely to shrink, global IT vendors revenues is expected to equal $1.66 trillion in 2009, declining by 3% after an 8% rise in 2008. The Asia Pacific region has been a major growth engine for the tech industry. Its total purchases of IT goods and services of $448 billion in 2008 were almost as large as Western and Central Europes. Countries like Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan, have seen growth slow as exports to the US and Europe slowed. Asia / Pacific would experience a delayed impact of the global financial crisis. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is expected to slow in most countries / markets in 2009, which will affect IT spending. Asia / Pacific is still growing more aggressively than other regions in GDP and in IT. As a result, vendors would be looking to this region for growth and stability. 1.6 Structure of Indian IT Industry The IT-ITES industry in India has today become a growth engine for the economy, contributing substantially to increases in the GDP, urban employment and exports, to achieve the vision of a powerful and resilient India. While the Indian economy has been impacted by the global slowdown, the IT-ITES industry has displayed resilience and tenacity in countering the unpredictable conditions and reiterating the viability of Indias fundamental value proposition. Value proposition The main reasons for the successful establishment of software companies in India and its strong performance can be attributed to the following:

Cost advantage Given the labor market conditions in India, there exists substantial scope of cost

arbitrage for performing services from India. This, along with a large pool of talented and English people labor force, was the genesis of the IT sectors dominance in the world IT services industry Breadth of service offering and innovation Service offerings have evolved from low-end integrated IT solutions Quality / maturity of process Having made its mark as a center of low-cost and wide range of service offerings, the Indian IT / ITES sector has also proved its mettle in the quality of the service offerings, as demonstrated by the fact that it hosts more than 55% of SEI CMM level five firms and the highest number of ISO certified companies. Ease of scalability The vast and trained labor pool of technically competent, English speaking people has made it easy for the Indian companies to enter and exit this industry. Moreover, the ease with which a company can scale its operations (up or down) has been a great value driver for the success of the Indian IT / ITES service sectors growth story. 1.7 Performance of the Indian IT-ITES industry The information technology sector has been playing a key role in fuelling the Indian economic performance which has been stellar with robust GDP growth. Indias total IT industrys (including hardware) share in the global market stands at 7%; in the IT segment the share is 4% while in the ITES space the share is 2%. The industry is dominated by large integrated players consisting of both Indian and international service providers. During the year, the share of Indian providers went up to 65-70% due to the emerging trend of monetisation of application development to high-end

captives. MNCs however, continued to make deeper inroads into the industry and strengthened their Indian delivery centres during 2008.The continuing contribution of this sector to the Indian economy is evident from the fact that revenue generated from this sector has grown from 1.2% in FY 1998 to an estimated 5.8% in the FY 2009. The net value added by this sector to the economy is estimated at 3.5-4.1% for FY 2009. Some of the key highlights2 of the Indian IT / ITES industry for FY 2009 are enumerated below: The export revenues are estimated to gross USD 47.3 billion in FY 2009, accounting for 66% of the total IT-ITES industry revenues. IT services exports grew substantially on account of increasing traction of the industry in emerging markets such as remote infrastructure management and traditional segments such as application management. Domestic market continued to gain momentum, growing at 26% in INR terms on account of the overall positive economic climate, increased adoption of technology and

outsourcing. Engineering services and software product exports increased by 29% (USD). Direct employment reached nearly 2 million - with 1.5 million in the exports segment, a YoY increase of 26% in 2008. The indirect employment multiplier suggested that the industry created between 6-8 million additional jobs US and UK together constituted 79% of the globalexports in FY 2008 thereby dominating the export markets. BFSI remained the largest market followed by Hitech/ Telecom which together accounted for more than 60% of exports. 1.8 Global IT and Indian IT offshore Todays escalating, competitive and demanding environments have forced companies to be more efficient, operate leaner and continuously create new procedures to keep ahead of competitors - adding final consumer value to a product or service in the form of lower prices, quality and better service has become an essential requirement in the global marketplace. Corporations are trying to adapt with increasing opportunities competitors innovations to find global

and resources, focusing on core competencies and mutually beneficial

relationships, and finally, outsourcing those activities which can be performed more quickly and at lower costs by subcontractors. In a globally integrated economy, outsourcing is leading to overall benefits for the source economies, providing significant monetary and employment benefits. India has become a target destination for multinationals to back end their IT operations in India owing to its strong value proposition. We have witnessed an increased use of offshoring by global and European outsourcers, and the emphasis on productivity and delivering value by select Indian players. The Indian IT / ITES sector can be viewed from two perspectives - Indian global IT and Indian IT offshorer. The globally IT companies are increasingly looking inwards and focusing on process benchmarking, enhanced utilisation of infrastructure and talent, increasing productivity and greater customer engagement. global companies with roots in India are increasingly offshoring work in order to cut cost, as a result of which India is witnessing a revenue growth. On the other hand, as the offshore market is getting tighter, the Indian IT offshorers are facing hard times in getting contracts or replenishing their orders. The crisis in the U.S. financial services sector will have an impact in the short term on Indian outsourcers, as new projects may get delayed. This has impacted the revenue flows and would need a substantial increase in SG&A to ramp up their volumes. In spite of the negative effect of the outsourcing business, there has been relatively lesser impact on the Indian IT growth due to the offsetting effect of the favorable revenues on account of the global IT offshorers. India has become a target destination for multinationals to back end their IT operations in India owing to its strong value proposition.

3D SCANNING AND ENGINEERING: Using the Faro Photon Scanner we can turn reality into a virtual representation which is being employed in more and more aspects of our everyday lives. From modeling ancient buildings, production plants, crime scenes and football stadiums to design concepts for cars and for replacement parts which have no design data, reverse engineering is a broad field allowing us to create virtually anything we can touch. Using a FARO Photon 120 3D scanner, we are able to measure 976,000 points per second, at a range of up to 120m (395ft), through 360 degrees (horizontal) and 320 degrees

16

(vertical) and at an accuracy of +-2mm (at 25m), to provide you instantaneous, high resolution 3D imagery, with extreme clarity and full color. Several industries have realized the immediate benefits in using 3D data for planning, visualizing and measuring. Building Information Modeling (BIM), for example, is relying on scanned data to be used throughout the entire building life cycle. By doing so, civil engineers, architects and construction contractors are all able to collaborate more efficiently and effectively in the design and building process as well as the maintenance of existing building infrastructure. Industries such as aerospace, automotive, foundry and ship building depend on laser scanning for accurate large scale inspection or reverse engineering. Scanned data provides manufacturers with accurate measurements of complex parts whereby traditional methods of data verification would be too cumbersome and unreliable. OUTPUT & POST-PROCESSING: Scanner output can be supplied raw, or post processed to your requirements. This includes point cloud manipulation, conversion to ACAD and other common CAD formats and comparison of scanned dimensions to existing electronic files (either previous scans or CAD drawings) to detect additions, subtractions and variations to the scanned object. For example this may be used to detect decay of the object over a period of time using multiple scans or detecting fabrication errors compared to the original manufacturing drawings. 3.3 BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT Business Environment includes both internal and external environment that comprises of so many factors. Internal Environment deals with the organization structure: Symbiosys Technologies delivers suites of comprehensive applications mainly built on Microsoft and Java platforms and animation platforms. These applications have received rate reviews from our customers for the way we have customized to fit their needs. All applications built here have common characteristics of high flexibility and agility - vital in today's fast moving environments where market forces shape and morph application needs constantly. Some of our solutions are in the areas of

25

HR Suite Workflow Employee Resource Management System Integration Engineering.

Organizational factor: This factor describes that the organizational structure is its framework, which is expressed by its degree of complexity, formalization, and centralization. An organization is divided into different divisions, departments, sections, teams and work groups for the purpose of smooth working and each member in the organization is given certain responsibility and authority to his position. So relationships among individuals, groups and all departments are established with a formal line of authority and organizational resources are deployed for business conduct. EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT: The external environment of an organization involves both general culture and few factors and so on and a particular set of groups with which the organization must interact. These groups usually include customers, suppliers, competitors, lab or supply, labor unions and government. The external environment is a major contingency variable for many reasons in order to survive and evolve, an organization must adapt effectively to changes that take place in its environment. The inability to adjust to environmental changes can erode the effectiveness of an organization and threaten its continued existence. The factors that affect the business are mainly political factors, social factors, technological factors, economical factors and global factors.

26

Political Factors: Technology acquisition raises a number of political questions. The first relates to the dependence of the receiving nations on the supplying nation and this technological dependence could become a political one. So it is the responsibility of a government to select carefully the country from where technology acquisition is made so that no political problems could arise in future. The second question relates to the possible transfer of political power from political elites to the technical specialists. This problem is more prominent in computer-based technologies because these technologies are directly related with retrieval and processing of data and information. The people at the management level are mainly from non technical backgrounds, as a result of which there is always a tension between these two groups. The third question concerns the selection of countries to which certain technology could be transferred and As IT systems change organizations structure, culture, politics, and work. Due to political restrictions and bans, the firms some time cannot develop or transfer new technologies and therefore, they have to rely on old methods and equipments. Economic Factors: Economic environment of a country effects the implementation of information system. Economic environment of a nation has a clear impact on the short term and long term success of IT implementation. The economy determines such things as the availability of funds to pay for hardware, software, and technical support. The economic factor also impacts the demand, in terms of a sustainable customer base, for new IT products and services. There are two economic aspects of technology acquisition that are important to be considered: i.e 1) funds for initial investment and 2) return on investment.

27

In low and middle income countries, the funds available are often not sufficient to buy expensive technology. These countries mostly rely on the technology donated to them and later problems are encountered when the project is over.

The lacks of knowledge about technology selection, adoption, and implementation as well as lack of knowledge in organizational development and strategic planning restrict to the uses of new technology in organization.

Social Factor The social change works both ways: It become the reason for technological change and also play a role of a great barrier in any technology adoption decision. As this is an era of great technological changes, so every day companies come across with new product and services. Yet the habits, taste, customs, values and culture of any country or an organization do not allow them to go for the change. So organizations have to think otherwise, to defer or totally reject few new technology adoption decisions. There are several other social and organizational factors which do affect the technology implementation and adoption success. According to above factors these are user perception of innovations, firms culture, type of communication channels used to diffuse knowledge of the innovation and various leadership factors. Technological Factor: Technological factors like such as the sophistication, or even the very existence, of needed IT infrastructure, are important considerations in the implementation efforts of information technology. The two possible solutions to manage the technological changes are: Ensuring that right decision is made on technology, so that there is no difficulty with later Integration issues (integration of the new technology with prior initiatives)

28

Multiple ways to interact with and service a range of different technologies. For many reasons over emphasizing on technical and managerial details in a strategic planning process can be counterproductive. As mentioned above, it dampens the interest of vital participants; it tends to obscure, rather

that illuminate, genuinely strategic issues; and it surveillance diminishes quickly when the planning process looks at a horizon of more than a few months.

3.4 SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE COMPANY

Strengths:

The three solid strengths are processes, business skills, and client relationships. Our company has mastered in these areas. The business expertise that now exists in the industry. With time and experience with projects and dealing with clients across the world, many managers have developed good understanding of business practices in other countries and have acquired domain knowledge and an understanding of the cultural context of the customer. These are the factors that are essential for moving from low level technical services to higher level services, i.e. for going up the value chain. They are also essential for customer satisfaction, which, in turn, is essential for business. Many Indian software companies boast of repeat business of over 70% a huge asset when trying to grow at rapid pace. The past customers remain for growth at least loss of past customers does not need to be handled. At the same time, the senior management seems to have transformed from thinking like a India-based supplier to being a global player. This has brought in organization management and business practices that are in-line with the developed world. Symbiosys Technologies have developed the ability to change rapidly with technology. This has been amply demonstrated by the quick movement to Java, E-commerce related technologies, Animations etc., which are now major portion of the business for many companies. In todays technology world, if a service provider does not have the ability to manage their people and processes to adapt to new technologies; it will not remain in service for too long. These are the main strengths that we have observed during these 2 weeks of our internship. Opportunities: Cloud based services Mobile advertising Mobile device industry Growth through acquisitions Providing mobile apps Utilizing high end security systems

4.0 AN OVERVIEW OF TASKS GIVEN IN THE COMPANY PRODUCT DOCUMENTATION Introduction: Computer-aided design (CAD) has moved far beyond the digitizing of paper-based design processes. Advances in modeling and design software have led both designers and manufacturers to expect intelligent, reactive drawing environments. And though the latest modeling, visualization, and analysis software automates many manual processes, the 2D documentation process has not always followed suit. Manufacturers and designers developing model documentation are still forced to perform a wide range of manual processes that can be both tedious and error-prone. In addition, though the industrys accelerating transition from 2D drafting to 3D modelling delivers countless advantages to designers, it has also introduced new challenges when creating documentation. The accuracy of 3D can get lost during the documentation process, particularly if data translation is required. As a result, developing accurate documentation often requires designers/drafters to rework drawings.

Over the past decade, dramatic advances in 3D computer-aided design (CAD) technology have given designers and engineers powerful tools for designing, engineering, and manufacturing new products. Powerful CAD tools are helping engineers not only create and visualize innovative designs, but also shorten design cycles, accelerate time-to-market, reduce development costs, and improve product quality. For many manufacturing organizations, however, most benefits associated with implementing CAD technologies have involved processes that occur before production. As a result, product design and engineering primarily reap the advantages of CAD data. While 3D CAD has made designers and engineers more productive and efficient, the innate value in the CAD models they create often ends with the delivery of 2D drawings or printed materials to manufacturing. As many engineers can attest, requests for CAD-related information, images, and contentin a variety of layouts and formats to fulfill functions other than design and engineeringare numerous and often arise after a designs release for production. All products

36

need documentation, and most require the production of assembly, service, and training manuals. The utility of 3D data extends even to the creation of marketing materials and web-based content. For any company that designs and manufactures products, CAD models and their associated intellectual property are the fundamental source of product information, driving efficiency through all the subsequent communication functions that traditionally took place after product design. As manufacturers strive to find ways to become leaner, more efficient, and more competitive in global markets, generating CAD data to satisfy all the product documentation requirements of the manufacturing enterprise may hold the greatest potential for improving productivity. Instead of cutting into an engineers time to do high-resolution screen captures, create special exploded views, or write instructions for manufacturing, service, and marketing purposes, you can use an integrated content authoring tool and other resources to create product graphics and illustrations directly and simultaneously from 3D CAD models.

Product documentation is often a separate step that takes place after product design in many product development processes, creating delays and the need for additional rework. Shortening this step by using a 3D authoring tool to develop documentation content concurrently can accelerate time-to-market and increase competitiveness. Now it is possible to address all product documentation needs including materials for manufacturing, service, user manuals, and marketing by using a new class of documentation authoring applications to repurpose 3D CAD data. Known as 3D authoring software, these tools extend the utility of CAD data and automate the development of product documentation and related materials. While many organizations already leverage 3D CAD content in some fashion, a 3D authoring tool allows you to avoid the rework associated with updating CAD models to incorporate engineering changes into downstream documentation. Software that updates content directly from the CAD model can distribute design modifications throughout all related deliverables. As the design changes, 3D authoring software enables technical illustrators to create and update exploded views. Manufacturing specialists can develop and update graphics in assembly instructions, and customer service personnel can do the same in service documentation. This powerful software also allows marketing professionals to render and update catalogue images. If the CAD model changes, you can automatically update all of the related content. This concurrent approach serves

37

to compress development time, squeeze costs out of the process, and alleviate demands on engineering, all while maintaining the integrity of the original CAD data. By implementing a documentation authoring solution, your company can realize greater accuracy, increased efficiency, and a more significant return on investment (ROI) within the first year. Time and cost savings related to resource reductions in publication creation, assembly operations, engineering change order (ECO) processes, and warranty claims will eclipse the cost of the solution during the first year and continue to grow with each passing year. By integrating and automating the creation of product documentation, you can decrease labor costs associated with document publication, localization of materials, and training. At an organizational level, the ROI associated with the new processes becomes most evident through shorter time-to-market, improved operational efficiencies, and better quality documentation.

Creating better user manuals and product documentation

While product documentation can fulfill a range of uses, its core purpose is twofold: to provide customers with the information they need to use and enjoy a manufacturers product and to develop customer loyalty for that product. Therefore, the production of user manuals, part lists, and product schematics is an important function for building customer satisfaction and loyaltyone that requires the contributions of illustrators, writers, and publishing specialists. Whether product documentation personnel are engineers or have a limited engineering background, they can substantially increase their chances of success by creating graphical content directly from CAD models.

With a 3D authoring tool like 3DVIA Composer, product documentation specialists can avoid using a CAD system or asking an engineer to produce product information such as exploded views, vector line art images, or annotations. Instead of re-creating visuals from the finished product, they can create 2D and 3D visuals to meet any documentation requirements. Whether the need is vector line art of an exploded view for technical illustrations or a detailed view of a high-resolution raster image for a user manual, documentation professionals can save time and improve the visuals quality by accessing and reusing native CAD data. The flexibility of integrated documentation software eliminates the need to go back and forth with engineering

38

to obtain the precise views, angles, and colors required for documentation; you can create this content from the CAD model, but cannot alter or change the design. With the explosive growth of digital and online documentation systems, 3D authoring software also enables documentation publishers to use animations within user manuals and product help systems. The interactive nature of 3D provides an effective means for showing your customers how to use a product and for illustrating how that product works. With more and more user manuals published either online or on CD-ROM, animation capabilities are fast becoming an important part of the product documentation toolkit. Integrated documentation software provides the capabilities for creating interactive content from the actual product CAD file. Product and manufacturing information conveys non-geometric attributes in

3D computer-aided design (CAD) and Collaborative Product Development systems necessary for manufacturing product components or subsystems. PMI may include geometric dimensions and tolerances 3D annotation (text) and dimensions, surface finish, and material specifications. Product and manufacturing information (PMI) is used in 3D CAD and/or collaborative product development systems to convey information about the design of a products components for manufacturing. More specifically, PMI conveys information such as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), 3D annotation (text), surface finish and material specifications. The PMI annotation is created on the 3D CAD model, associated to edges and faces, and can be exported into neutral formats such as Siemens JT and ISO 10303 STEP. This information can then be used by a number of down-stream processes. Although PMI can be used to generate annotation on a traditional 2D drawing the data can be visualized within the 3D model by other departments, either in the CAD/CAM system or in a 3D Product visualization tool, thus reducing the need for drawings (Drawing on Demand). Some 3D model formats enable computer-aided manufacturing software to access PMI directly for CNC programming. The PMI also may be used by tolerance analysis and Coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) software applications if the modeling application permits. PMI items are often organized under PMI Views. A PMI View is a view including camera/view position and also the particular state of the assembly (visibility, rendering mode, sometime even position of each element of the assembly). CAD applications have different

39

notions of PMI Views for instance "Capture Views" and "Annotation Views" are specific to Dassault Systems CATIA. Features: Reduces cost by ensuring that design intent is completely captured and associated to the model. Deducing and interpreting design intent from 2D information is no longer necessary. Reduces rework associated with inaccurate or incomplete manufacturing information. Reduces manufacturing errors encountered as a result of manual translations and enforces characteristic accountability for the final product definition. Increases productivity and quality by documenting the information once and reusing it everywhere (redundant data is no longer required for downstream applications). Supports concurrent engineering by facilitating the documentation of models earlier in the design process. Design collaboration teams no longer need to wait for the production of the drawing to communicate design requirements. Benefits: Enhances and shortens the design cycle by enabling product teams to incorporate product and process information during the design phase, thereby facilitating better communications, fewer errors, streamlined design/ manufacturing processes and faster change management. Accelerates decision making by enabling product teams to remove drawings from the supplier communication chain and replacing that information with persistent, associated 3D product data that can be deployed across multiple lifecycle processes and used anywhere.

Replacing the universal 2D drawing

People are familiar with 2D drawings and use them as a means of legally defining a finished product. 2D drawings contain standard symbology that is universally understood and interpreted. However, in some cases, the existence of multiple, redundant data required to define

40

a manufactured part can lead to deviations in the final 3D form. Interpretation errors, duplication errors or revision inconsistencies can contribute to costly mistakes that quickly translate into lower quality and productivity. As a result, while 2D drawings contain the recipe for manufacturing a part, the true manufacturing process requires both the 3D form and 2D information to produce a correct part the first time. The use of 2D drawings for the purpose of communicating downstream production requirements can also add an unnecessary burden to the product development cycle. A simple change in the product definition not only requires updated 3D digital data, but also necessitates numerous engineering changes to all 2D documentation associated with the product. Since it takes time to maintain this documentation, the lifecycle for implementing a product change grows with the extent of its associated 2D data.

5. Objectives: Capturing and conveying manufacturing requirements for 3D digital product development. To do 3D model documentation on Product and Manufacturing Information. Employee attendance monitoring.

6. Tasks: Various tasks were given in due course. Initially given work of employee attendance monitoring. Prepared a consolidated report of employees who were coming late in the morning, employees who were coming late after going to lunch, Employees who are leaving the office early. Based on the late entries salary deduction will be done. Next given task of Capturing and conveying manufacturing requirements for 3D digital product development. In order to accomplish this task it is necessary to collect the technical attributes related to each and every product of the company. On the first day the task assigned to me is to gather all the technical attributes of Anova companys products. Similarly daily different companys products, for which 3D modelling has to be done, were given to do documentation. Business analysis is a research discipline of identifying business needs and determining solutions to business problems. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement, organizational change or strategic planning and policy

41

development. The person who carries out this task is called a business analyst or BA. Business analysts who work solely on developing software systems may be called IT business analysts, technical business analysts, online business analysts, business systems analysts, or systems analysts. Business analysis as a discipline has a heavy overlap with requirements analysis sometimes also called requirements engineering, but focuses on identifying the changes to an organization that are required for it to achieve strategic goals. These changes include changes to strategies, structures, policies, processes, and information systems. Symbiosys Technologies is now developing its own website for various business functions like Human Resource Management, Project Management etc. Requirements for developing website have to be documented so that the technical team will develop the Symbiosys Management System (SMS) according to those requirements. Identified actors and use cases in the project and estimated the cost of project based on standard ratings. Requirements analysis in systems engineering and software engineering, encompasses those tasks that go into determining the needs or conditions to meet for a new or altered product, taking account of the possibly conflicting requirements of the various stakeholders, analyzing, documenting, validating and managing software or system requirements. Requirements analysis is critical to the success of a systems or software project. The requirements should be documented, actionable, measurable, testable, traceable, related to identified business needs or opportunities, and defined to a level of detail sufficient for system design. Conceptually, requirements analysis includes three types of activities:[citation needed] Eliciting requirements: the task of identifying the various types of requirements from various sources including project documentation, (e.g. the project charter or definition), business process documentation, and stakeholder interviews. This is sometimes also called requirements gathering. Analyzing requirements: determining whether the stated requirements are clear, complete, consistent and unambiguous, and resolving any apparent conflicts. Recording requirements: Requirements may be documented in various forms, usually including a summary list and may include natural-language documents, use cases, user stories, or process specifications.

42

Targets: Every day documentation should be completed for one companys products. If the number of products in a company is more the target that should be accomplished will be documentation of 60 products. 7. Methodology In order to get the specifications and geometric dimensions of a product it is necessary to carefully examine the printcad file of the respective product that were given in caddetails website.

43

By examining the printcad file, calculations should be done to get all the geometric attributes of the product like length, breadth, height, radius, pole height, knob radius, inner radius etc. To get the product information have to search in google. In order to gather the functional requirements for Symbiosys Management System the strategy adopted was group discussion with technical team and brainstorming. Through brainstorming many ideas were generated. Among them the best can be selected to implement the project. 8. Achievements: Given a target of completing product documentation of Icon Shelter Systems products which contains 1083 products within 5 days. But I have completed in 4 days. Completed all the given targets with in the given time. Assisted accountant in auditing work.

9. Mid-course Correction: For 7 days I was assigned a task of work related to financial statements. Journal entries from 1-April-2012 to 31-March-2013 were given. Cash vouchers should be written for the bills and staple that voucher to corresponding bill and sort out those bills month wise and should file them. The reason for deviation of task is that there is auditing in this month. 10.Limitation: In order to this task lot of patience is needed because we may not get the required information within a single click. We have keep on changing the search key word to get the necessary information. Modelers should complete the 3D modeling of products prior to the documentation is done. As it is a software company and it does the client projects which are very confidential and important that is why they are very strict and static in giving us the details of the project to analyse and also even to outline the project schedule. They are also strict in giving the accounting details as it deals with all the financial transactions which are very confidential.

45

11.Conclusion: Through the use of 3D documentation methods (i.e., PMI), the time and cost of documenting a part can be reduced by 50 percent and make early involvement of manufacturing easier with state of the art online 3D collaboration and visualization tools. Limiting redundant annotation and views normally created on drawings in an attempt to clarify part design requirements leads to better communications with fewer interruption errors, improved first time quality and increased productivity.
