Podcast Lesson for TIP Individual Lesson Plan

Author(s): Adam Ragsdale Overall Goal for the Lesson: The overall goal is to get the students to have a better understanding of complex characters and what it is that ma es their traits complex! "tudent Ob#ective(s) for the Lesson (Given a condition, the students will, to what level): Given a character in a novel or historical period$ the student will be able to ade%uatel& determine whether that character is complex and be able to explain wh& or wh& not! Assessments: (Make sure each objective is paired to an assessment measure that allows students to show they met the criteria). At the end of the podcast$ ' will as the students to create an original stor& in which the main character is a complex protagonist! The will write this stor& on one to two pages of noteboo paper! (ull credit will be given to students who describe their character or situation in a wa& that shows how the character is complex! )escription of classroom$ grade level$ and students: The students are middle*class +, th graders with average*level learning abilities! -rior .nowledge of "ub#ect (What do the students already know, if anythin , in this subject area): The& now the overall structure of a plot for a stor&$ and the& now the characters which ' will present as examples in order to show them how these characters are complex! The& can listen to the podcast on their own computer device if the& wish$ as long as the& are wearing earphones! Then$ at the end of the lesson$ the& will write their stories about a complex character! The& will need to hand in these papers to the teacher so he or she can evaluate them! Accommodations: (#ow mi ht the lesson need to be adapted for students with special needs$) "tudents with learning disabilities will have the option to have a teacher or aide available to them during the listening of the podcast so that the teacher or aide can pause the podcast and explain certain aspects of the lesson if the student is having a hard time with part of the lesson!

The students will need some ind of computer device with which the& can access the& internet in order to hear the podcast! The& will also need earphones if the& chose to listen to it individuall&! The& need a writing utensil and paper in order to write down their stor& for the assessment at the end of the podcast!
